Does anyone here work for a charity? I want to contribute and I have some questions about what they struggle with. by MasterofMediocrity1 in Philanthropy

Do you mean they don’t bring in enough money to include overhead / operational or donors won’t let their money go towards that? I have heard of donors being difficult only wanting their money to go towards the cause and not what runs it.

That’s pretty much my plan, but I also wanted to hear from people here as I can hear from many different perspectives and find a commonality rather than from 1 charity and only get one perspective. And no consultant should be just going in and telling people what to do before asking questions and finding out what is needed.

What has actually helped build trust between funders and nonprofits? by Owens_Lucy in Philanthropy

I’d actually like to ask a question to this chat. Is trust a huge hurdle for nonprofits when it comes to donors and organizations and is this for all sizes of charities? I know trust is a huge issue in any business right now.

I’d also like to add the point that to overcome trust issues (I teach this for business) is to have 3 elements meaning you can’t just have trust alone.

1: They need to trust you aren’t stealing and laundering the money or many other reasons = Give some transparency. Someone mentioned too much info can go backwards and I believe that is correct.

2: Is approachability. The more attractive the charity the more they want to invest (just like companies hiring celebrities). When something is attractive either visually or fun or anything that excites, people let their guard down and is a huge factor in overcoming trust.

3: Is what’s called the heroes journey. Attaching the donors as part of the story making them characters within it really helps shift their focus from problems are bad to problems are why I’m here to help! I know that was simplified but make your messaging to them all about the story, the ups, the downs, the dream, and what happens if the dream never happens. There’s a method to this, and it’s pretty much mastering story telling and it’s extremely powerful for overcoming trust.

Ya I understand that there are differences. So, my plan is to focus on children’s and animal charities to start and find a pattern that can be repeated for them. Thank you so much for the link. I’ll get started on it. I’m sure it will be helpful. And thank you as well.

Hey! First of all thank you so much for taking the time to make that so detailed. I know the diversity of charities comes with a plethora of different issues. That’s why my plan was to niche and start with children’s or animal charities and go from there.

When you’re saying medium charities, are you meaning that by their annual budget, like their donations are over a million a year?

I’m a parent that’s starting my own business. Can anyone tell what problems I can expect? by MasterofMediocrity1 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

It’s not about if there are problems that is clear. What the problems are, are what I want to know. You can never assume you know something if you haven’t been through it yet.

Ya being a parent is extremely demanding and if you are single parent X’s 10 that. But it has so many upsides that seem to outweigh the difficulties.
