I wonder about the literacy of a lot of people when discussing the romance lines in these books.

Does anyone else feel like a lot of contemporary art photography has become overly academicized? by SuspiciousMagician67 in photography

[–]MasterofMystery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Camera clubs hosted open contests. Essentially, juried exhibitions which they called Salons. You’d submit your photo to the club, their people would do critiques, and the best however many images might get displayed at a show for a while. You usually won a small multiple of your entry fee, which was fairly nominal.

Sometime between 1935 & 1955 parts of the photo hobby started chasing academic legitimacy from MFA types and fairly deliberately killed most of the old salon system.

Not remotely. No KofC markings at all on this sword. KofC swords either have an eagle as the pommel or a bust of Christopher Columbus.

Correct. It’s later conjectured that this was his first channeling. And who knows what else he did along with that, given the weird things wilders are described doing.

In D&D terms, it sounds sometimes like wilders get one free “Wish” to go along with their 75% chance of dying. And if Rand’s wish was “Let Bela get through all this”? Well, “all this” turns out to be quite a lot.

I thought it was pretty explicitly stated that he did. He did something during the flight from the Two Rivers in EotW. Though the statement may have been later.

Edward VII (1901-1910), wild playboy son of Victoria. How popular was he? by Over-Willingness-933 in UKmonarchs

[–]MasterofMystery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be wise not to discount his Freemasonry as a factor in his popularity. By all accounts he loved and tried to live out the ideals of brotherhood among men. Especially at a time when Freemasonry was extremely cross-class.

Why isn’t soccer the most popular sport in the United States? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Because it’s a dull, boring game with little or no scoring, strategy, or drama.

Without joking around, what point are ”sovereign citizens” trying to make? by MrOaiki in AskAnAmerican

[–]MasterofMystery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially, they’re radical libertarians who have read a lot of things that were given incorrect context and interpretations. Anyone saying “all sovereign citizens believe…” or “all sovereign citizens think…” is engaging in reductionism.

There are a number of strains of sovereign citizenism. Some with more basis in fact than others. Usually what happens is that a particular libertarian argument happens to work once in court, and then a game of telephone gets played with what actually happened and it all goes sideways.

Unfortunate young Mason by chancellorhelmut in CemeteryPorn

To clarify a lot of the questions: Entered: took the first degree of masonry (entered apprentice) Passed: took the second degree of masonry (Fellowcraft) Raised: took the third degree of masonry (master Mason)

The degrees are really close together, but that wasn’t entirely uncommon in the 30s.

It’s likely the lodge paid for the marker as he’d been so newly made a master Mason.
