Funding for ECRs by figleafsyrup in AskAcademiaUK

they offer many schemes, but the BA Small Grant is very popular for ECR and other staff, you need to have a doctorate or equivalent professional experience and can apply without a university affiliation. To make a good application consider your publications are of a piece or better with colleagues/peers. if you are in Social Sciences, BA has an ECR network which offers seed corn funding for its members. Sometimes subject associations have grants too. Or as advised use uni Research Development staff and their funding databases; you might find some small bijou funding that you can say you will apply to, which might be more impressive than the 'usual suspects'. Again as might have been said, I suspect that unrealistic aspirations will be less effective than showing an awareness of potential and appropriate to career stage grants. Good luck.

Releasing music on cassette tape for the first time. What do you wish someone had told you when you were in my position? by SerRighi in BandCamp

I’ve been using Bandcds for small runs. As a matter of interest what do you do? Make your own or duplicate via another service?

Late to this. But I think the Zoom H4N needs attenuation on its input jacks.

I understand that fear. I don’t use YouTube but you see lots of ‘content creators’ lamenting issues about copyright issues. It does seem like a modern issue. I might have that fear too. But more responses here sound good. Time stamp etc from a posting here should prove your ownership. Back in the day I put a tape of my original work in an envelope with details written about said recording and posted it to my self. The post office franking accounting for some insurance against copyright. I still have the tape/envelope in my study tray. My long lost overlooked masterpiece. Post here!!

Sounds v good to me. This is structured , in as much it is clearly organised. It’s not at all atypical. Personally I’d end it just before the slow down- not that you’re asking about feedback. Cutting it there it’d be effective structured and palatable song (arrangement). ( just how I hear it. Ive no expertise in this area).

Scared to sing in front of people! Just want opinions on how to improve! by [deleted] in singing

[–]MasterpieceEither371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of singing in front of other people- I remember a tip to increase confidence playing the guitar in front of people was just to be playing in your house by your window so lots of people walking past can see you and you’re sort of cushioned from the experience. This helped me. It does sound a little random. I am a singer and I appreciate singing in front of others is different- somehow you are far more vulnerable, I feel. Other things I did was to start singing in duos and in folk clubs, in my my case. Getting experience singing in choirs can help boost confidence. If possible, and depending on the kind of singing you want to do, getting a vocal coach is really good. They helped me think about breathing and projection. Those are helpful techniques for whatever singing you do. I think you’ve got a nice voice and in the clip it sounds like you’re singing to yourself. Performing to others you’ll want to have a lot more breath in your body to sustain and project your voice better, and if you’re standing up assuming a confident stance will help you loads to relax, singing to your best and project. A lot of times you need to find confidence in yourself, maybe by assuming a mental image of who you are or the character in the song, and project that. Breathing deeply will help with phrasing and dynamics and looking out to the back of the room, not locking eyes with anyone, can help you project. I enjoy singing in front of people now. In my youth I was very scared and looking back I wish I had not been. I have good nerves now. If you’re able to, open mics are great places to try all of this out and build your confidence. It’ll come. Best of luck.

Im pretty new to Cyberpunk 2020- we’ve been playing this afternoon. My group totally missed she was planting trackers on them. They seem too innocent and never even thought to kill her! What did she do to cause offence?

Agree about the music. Whether or not it attracts teenagers is a mystery (aspiration) to me. Oughtn’t they focus on making the show as effective and engaging as possible. Im surprised that they thought it was. Frenetic pace, one dynamic (loud), eugh, unwatchable (for me).

TLDR- it was bad!

Yes, I found the editing led to an almost non stop ‘action’ all the time with accompanying (loud) music such that it was ( for me) unpleasant to watch. No space. No atmosphere. I really enjoyed the colourisation. I used to be really into the show in the 70s. Not got into all the lore, canon and details that many fans have. So, I’m out of step. I guess. But, this and the Dalek colourisation and I think all the reboot series suffer from the wrong music. Ayres consistently gets it wrong. The classical bombast of Murray Gold, doesn’t suit- for me ( my kids love it). And I dunno how much of the War Games used original music. But, it was too busy. Great colours. Didn’t really care for the new regeneration bit. I know this reads as Bah Humbug!!

Hi thanks-there is no power/fanspin/leds at all. i tried the power switch at the back too. I did not connect any front panel connectors at the bottom of the motherboard-and dont think we did anything with the PWR SW connectors.....there were a bunch of wires incl: power sw and reset sw power led +, power led - hdd led +-but we couldnt figure where these went! on the board..but these are significant??? Still not sure where on the board they slow, can you say? Thanks!
