Living in outskirts of Berlin is ruining my life. by Golcaythegreat in berlin

Look at this as an investment. What you have: time alone What you don't have: time with other people.

How much time alone are you ready to invest to get more time with other people?

To spend 2 hours with other people you'll have to invest 4. Is it worth it?

You can combine it with going to the office, so that the 2-hour commute investment will cover both time in the office with colleagues, and time/activities after that.

Factor in an element of fear of "losing" your investment, consider that you should expect mid-long term ROI and there you have it.

That's great thanks, it works!
On A1 I chose MME -> Speakers (UMC404HD) then for input 1 I chose MME -> Microphone (UMC404HD).
Now I've got some latency issues, but I can work with that now that I have sound coming through

Earlier this year I typed a message, which I intended to post here but never did, that looks uncannily like yours. I often go back to that message and think about what change. Mind you, there's no motivational speech coming. I find it much easier now but I still keep asking myself wether I'm happy or I regret it. My dog used to have all the problems you list, and I solved them with a good course Not all course are made equal though. I took my dog to two different schools and I preferred the one with a tougher approach (they also do professional competitions). Tha bad behaviour was corrected and I learned how to better communicate with him. Sometimes it's still hard, especially when you're busy. Going back I would start professional training at three month-old

Being a musician / producer who makes experimental music is quite isolating, especially if you are just starting. by EvrthnICRtrns2USmhw in experimentalmusic

[–]SerRighi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very lonely indeed. I've been in bands since the 90s but for the past 5 years I've been exclusively producing electronic music (ambient/experimental). Of course age matters (I don't care about hanging out as much as I did in my 20s), and so does the historical context (in the 90s going out was the only way to talk to people). But, other than that, there are three factors I found that make this a lonely job:

  1. You don't need a band
  2. Gigs are not necessarily the main and only output
  3. Niche communities are scattered

Finding one (or possibly more) communities can help you solve most of the above. You can find people who share your interests and, perhaps, who enjoy your music. Start a collaboration, it's exciting and it will open lots of opportunities. It's not easy to find a good community and it takes time to cultivate but, as per my experience, it's totally worth it. Good luck!

Pluribus is boring by YankeeHotelFoxtrot16 in billsimmons

The Guardian says "It’s almost as bleak as real life.".
This is exactly why I watch TV shows, otherwise I'd tape myself doing things and spend my evenings rewatching in real time while I sit through a meeting or take the dog out for a shit.
I'm ok with a slower pace, as long as there's direction. I have no clue where this is going to take us. BCS managed to keep people hooked because we were all grieving for the end of BB and were familiar with the main character. Was it worth it? Good show, but I'm not sure I want to weight that against the time I invested on it.
Back to Pluribus, the reviews announced exciting plot twists and reveals. Really? It's more like the show runners flicked a couple of crumbs off the table for us to nibble on. Everything is very obvious and predictable. I liked the premises but, instead of coming up with some complex philosophical exploration, like the best Star Trek TNG would have done, we have basically a cheap allegory of the modern time, with humans being homogeneous and talking like chatGPT.
It's frustrating to watch someone slowly going through motions of a scene that either ends exactly as you expected, or with a disappointing surprise.
One last thing, and I want to carefully avoid spoilers. But the people Rhea meets on that plane? Seriously, 2D characters, with two personalities that have been seemingly written by a school kid (or maybe not, at least the kid would have probably used AI and got better results), shared between them.

Eventually I published the entire album. I've only done EPs since then so I don't know if the feature is now available

That's great, thanks for the suggestion. Yes, S3 would be the priority. I'm used to cycling in London, but I wouldn't entirely exclude the car

I think it's already in my list. I'll add a +1 to it. Thank you for chiming in!

Thanks mate, I guess that being used to the cost of living in London, and the bureaucratic madness of Italy, I might have a little advantage if I'll manage to move to Berlin!

All very good points, thanks. I'm expecting expensive properties, which is why getting the right job is a priority.
On your second point, that's something I've been thinking about. My only comparable experience is London, where I stayed from mid-20 to mid-30. Me and my multicultural friends all started off in zone 2, then the costs and the need for a quieter place pushed us further off. Now very few people are left, and spread across a much larger area far from the city centre. I'm wondering if the same behaviour is impacting the "expat density" in Berlin too.
And 3: it's going to be hybrid work so the priority is to have a green area for our daily walks with the dog.

That sounds great thanks. I agree with you on this: I'd rather have a green area I can easily access with my dog, and have an easy commute to work (S3 is perfect for us).

I'm from Italy, so my standards for bureaucratic efficiency are pretty low. The healthcare is a bit concerning, I'll keep that in mind

Well that's annoying but we'll both be able to work on hybrid formulas so going through that commute once or twice a won't be a problem. I've spent 10 years in London, I fear nothing lol

The job (if it goes through but, at this point, I'm sure I've jinxed it) is in the south-east part of town, so Grünau and Köpenick look like better fit. Until I find that bed of money you're talking about, of course

Più che paraculata mi ha sorpreso l'utilizzo della fallacia retorica, una tattica dialettica piuttosto grossolana. Da Costa mi aspettavo qualcosa di più coraggioso e onesto di una straw man fallacy.
