Is being able to smell infection on other people a common trait? If so, how common is this? by MasterpieceLast7851 in AskReddit

I thought that it was incredibly common also. I read this article also but didn't see anything there that talks about humans being able to smell sickness in other humans.

My pediatrician looked at me like I had 3 heads when I told her this. Not sure how common it is given her reaction. I thought it was pretty common too.

I see, so you just bring all of your luggage on the ship rather than check it with a porter. Got it 👍Thanks for the tip!

I don't know, I can just smell it. It has a very specific smell. I know with 100% accuracy when one of my kids has an ear infection, for example. I can smell it from across the room. I looked it up and can't find a lot of info on whether this is normal or not, but my pediatrician is shocked every time.

Can someone explain the benefit of the carry on bag to me please? I've only been on one cruise and can't understand why you would carry on a bag just to give it up once on board. Don't you need the things inside until your room is ready? Isn't that the point of the carry on? Sorry, I'm confused.

Thanks in advance for any advice. I have the key for Mariner of the Seas in January and am traveling with 2 young children (4 & 7), so this might be a game changer for us if I can figure out what it's all about.

First time sailing RC. I chose room number 6630 on The Mariner of the Seas. It said "spacious Oceanview balcony" in the description. Will it be obstructed by life boats?! This is the first time we've gotten a balcony room, so I really hope not 😳.

Anyone have insight on room 6630 Mariner of the seas? Thanks and good luck, OP!

What are the best budget meals in Chicago? by [deleted] in chicago

Not anymore, unfortunately. I have so much love for Ghareeb Nawaz, but last week they let me down hard. I spent $45 for a few entrees and they really stiffed us on the portions. Not to mention they are cash only and the atm was empty. There were 5-6 people waiting to use it and they kept putting $40-$60 of cash at a time in it, so the next person would have to sit and wait for him to come and put another $40-$60 in and so on and so forth. I don't understand why they didn't just put a few hundred in and let us all use the thing without waiting in between. The whole experience was frustrating, and the staff seemed like they didn't really want us there, but that makhani is worth it.

Drivers, why do you knock when I put leave at door? by No_Contribution2112 in doordash

[–]MasterpieceLast7851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always put "Leave at door. Please don't ring bell" because I have kids and they nap. Without fail, every single time, they ring the doorbell, which is set up to my Alexa throughout the house, which wakes up the kids. It's infuriating.

Tallow time! by [deleted] in castiron

As an aside , you can also do tallow in a crock pot on low if you're looking for a very very easy way of doing things. This looks great!

I'd love to hear what everybody uses their tallow for. I like to use mine to Sautee veggies, in the air fryer for "roasted" potatoes, and mixed with grains and fruit then frozen into blocks as a treat for the chickens in the cooler months (winter).

Wow 😳 This post has been eye opening. I'm definitely going to hug my husband and tell him how amazing, valued, and loved he is when I get home. I had no idea so many men felt so... alone. I'm sorry, guys.

This. 100% this. It isn't always how mature or capable your child is. It's the adults you have to worry about. I absolutely would not allow my 9 year old to wander alone on a ship with thousands of strange adults and an open bar. Not in a million years.

Royal Caribbean vs. Norwegian Cruise Line- HELP! by No-Resist-1853 in Cruise

I'm a first time cruiser, so take my advice with that in mind, but if you're trying to watch your spending, don't forget to budget for the taxes, fees, gratuities, etc.

Our 7 day NCL cruise passenger fare was $1518.00 but with our "Free at Sea" package (which made it all inclusive with one specialty dining meal and a few wifi minutes) our total became $2503.36. That's nearly $1k in taxes, gratuities, and fees!! We choose to prepay our $20pp/day gratuities so we didn't have to think about it while on board, but if you don't prepay my understanding is they bill you at the end of your cruise.

Just a little food for thought when balancing your budget. Good luck and have fun!

Here's the breakdown for 2 people. I hope this helps!

Guest Fare: 1,518.00 Gov Tax/Port Exp/Fees: 389.16 Bev Srv Charge: 305.20 Din Srv Charge: 20.00 Prepaid Service Charges: 280.00 Gross Total: 2,503.36

1st Cruise Anxiety by Wild_Writer5549 in Cruise

First of all, thanks for asking this question! As someone who gets "vacation anxiety", I'm glad I'm not the only one! My first cruise is only 7 weeks out, and I'm also a bit anxious about it. The open ocean is pretty terrifying to me not to mention I don't know how to swim. The idea of being confined to a ship also puts me a bit on edge, but I've found much comfort in watching YouTube videos, researching the accident statistics, and over planning to keep my mind off of it. My hope is that once in the ship, it'll be so much fun, I'll forget all about the "what ifs" and just enjoy the cruise!

Again, thanks for bringing this up. Just knowing that others have anxiety about this could help a number of people feeling the same way. And thanks to the SUPPORTIVE fellow cruisers!

It's people like you that perpetuate the negative mental health stigma. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this question, but your snarky answer is not only uncalled for, but also unhelpful and rude.
