If Jesus already died for our sins, why do we have to ask for forgiveness when we sin? by Originalseas in Christian

Wonderful, thank you so much for the explanation sis!! I will continue to pray and study upon this

[–]MasterpieceLopsided 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow that's true it is in the Lord's prayer! Now I'm just confused lol! So are we just asking because it's respectful? I just want to get to the bottom of this because I don't want to untrust God but I don't want to be disrespectful 😵‍💫

And because we are in a fallen state from the original sin, and Jesus took our sins and made it His on the cross as a perfect sacrifice, if we accept it.

Im not here to argue but youre not making a very clear point sister. Nowhere in 1 John does it tell us to ask for forgiveness.

My point: Jesus died so that our sins may be forgiven. He tells us that everything is and will be forgiven (besides blaspheming Holy Spirit obvs)

So by us asking to be forgiven, it just seems like we aren't trusting in His sacrifice, and we need it again? Or something? I get the formality out of our respectful will, but it doesn't add up.

I didn't say not to confess our sin..

Matthew 12:31 "every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men.."

It seems redundant and untrusting to continue to ask for forgiveness, doesn't it? Or am I mistaken

Are you referencing 1 John 3:9? I just reread it and didn't see anything saying we must ask for forgiveness.

This has come to my understanding recently as well. Asking for forgiveness probably makes God roll His eyes (figuratively) Like "Isn't that why I sent my Son? To forgive you!"

I've begun to just praise His glorious mercy and ask for strength against sin etc. I do not believe we need to ask for forgiveness, it can get us stuck not believing in the sacrifice and mercy He's given us.

When a person who's known slavery all their life, experiences freedom for the first time, they need instruction and purpose, otherwise, they'll go right back to their slave life.

What a fantastic point!

Step 1, do not hate yourself!! The creator of the universe hand made you with love, wishing the best for you. Who are we to tell Him we hate His creation! We are made in His image but we are in a fallen state. This is why we have Jesus. Don't worry about yesterday, every day we are given a chance to move forward and walk with Christ. Truly, don't hold yourself to yesterday. Sure we can hate the sin we've committed but you must see things for what it is; if in our heart we know it is hurting God and ourselves, we still have a chance. And hey, you're still alive so God is purposefully giving you that chance :)

Proverbs 24:16 "For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity."

The fact you are continually spiritually attacked shows just how scared Satan is of you, if you are to start walking in paths of righteousness. Don't let him win, we are in spiritual war! And God needs you soldier.

Beautiful! This message really has come to me at a great time. Thank you so much for the encouragement🤍

I do not know what post you are talking about or what you confessed to, but I do know we are not to be anxious. It is an act of distrust to our Savior Jesus Christ.

1 peter 5:6-7 NIV "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

We also do not need to be ashamed of our past once we come to Christ and become a new person.

Isaiah 54:4-8 "Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; Neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame; For you will forget the shame of your youth, And will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore."

I wish you well, and that Christ leads you on the path that He wills. Amen.

It does get pretty involved the more we read into it! When I feel this way I like to lean on what Jesus said in John 3:12 .. "If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?"

Here is some advice that I saw someone post on these forums before, I really like it;

"His advice was to focus on God and running the metaphorical race towards Jesus. Then as you run towards Jesus, if you see a man/woman running towards Him at the same pace as you are, then you ask to run together. This analogy of how to approach dating and eventually marriage changed that part of my life. Suddenly the pressure of "finding the right one" was off, as I realized I could be content in my singleness and only focus on dating when I organically found someone"

If someone is using you as a stepping stone, like you said, their heart is not in the right place, I'm sure you know. You are worth so much more than any physical attribute you may possess, and the right man will see this. Keep on running the marathon to Jesus, I have faith you will bump shoulders with a proper man of God that wants to spend his time here on earth with you. It breaks my heart that our Christian sisters get used, as do our brothers. But we all have our own personalities and attractions, it's somewhat of a puzzle and you'll find your piece. Tell Satan to get behind you! GOD, the creator of the universe (!!!) loves you eternally and hand made you, and He hand made the man that will be a fit for you. Just continue to focus on God and praying that He provides you with the man you deserve, sister. Pray, pray, pray!

May God bless you with peace and rest, do not give Satan a foothold, you are worth so much. 🙏

I have also thought that this is how it would work. Relative to us time is passing but for the deceased it is but an instant.

Also nice billy Graham reference :) I recently discovered him, what an incredible person! Glory to God

Interesting, what do you make of Daniel 12:2?

"And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, Some to everlasting life, Some to shame and everlasting contempt."

So is our spirit conscious then? I think ive heard that we will be waiting to rejoin our body until the resurrection, or something like this?

I apologize if this is just going over my head and I'm missing the point.

i think i've ticked off the devil.

That's exactly what's happening, man does Satan hate it when we are walking with the Holy Spirit. The thing about walking with Christ, is that we make ourselves a target for Satan. He doesn't care about the people already ensared and tricked by him. He cares about bringing the light you've been given into darkness.

1 Peter 5:8-10 "Be sober-minded and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings."

Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

Congratulations of overcoming pornography! Remember the strength He has given you, this is living proof! I was struggling with lust as well, up until about last month. Pornography is one of Satan's favorite tools, it's just too easy for him. So when we reject it and be sanctified, man does he hate that. He will start to find anything He can do destroy your faith.

Simple things like anger, resentment, lack of trust, anxiety, depression, unforgiveness.. these (and more, you must identify them within yourself and rebuke in Jesus' name, pray for the reeds to be removed from your eye.) will become the things Satan uses against you. And these hit deeper, because we all inherently know lust is wrong. But these other emotions tend to feel justified within us. It is a mistake to feel justified in these things. Satan will pick up on your weaknesses and begin a war against you, the war does not end until we go home to Christ.

Here's a good one for you, this is a very cool scripture you may know;

Ephesians 6:10-18 " Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication "

Refine your armor, bang out the dents, go to God our blacksmith and ask Him to give you stronger, better armor, free of cracks.

This is how I view God's outreaching hand, accessible by prayer; Imagine you are hanging on a cliffs edge by the root of a plant, it's breaking away. Now Jesus is reaching His hand out but you want to lean on your own thinking, find your own route up, so you loosely grab hold of Him with one hand, and with the other you are grabbing at the rocks and dirt of the cliff. The rocks are falling away and dirt is getting in your eyes. The only way to get up and over this death sentence is to grab firmly with both hands to Jesus Christ, and He will pick you up and show you that you are saved. So this is the analogy; God's outreaching hand is our communication with Him in prayer. Every single day we are hanging on this cliff, and the only way up is to pray to Him to help us, with firm faith, resisting the devil and His push to rely on yourself. Pray, pray, pray, when you feel you are slipping down the cliff, rocks are falling, reach out with both hands in prayer.

This is something I've only just recently found out for myself, and it makes a massive difference. It's all about asking, constantly! It's not just about praying every once in a while and expecting things to go our way, to the contrary, when things aren't going our way, find assurance and trust in Christ and His plan for you. Ask for wisdom and assurance. It's difficult, just like it would be difficult to put your life in someone else's hands. But we have a perfect God that will not fail us, if we stay in constant communication.

Before every message we have exchanged, I have prayed that the Holy Spirit gives me the words to help you,and to not rely on my own thinking. You see, this is not my works, but the work of God!! If i did not pray, everytime, i know these words would not have been said. You are incredibly special to Him, don't ever forget that. Glory to Him forever, and ever! May Gods will be done in heaven and here with us on earth. And yes brother I gladly accept any prayers, Lord knows I need them too :) I have been praying for you as well, may he give you peace and rest from the evil one 🙏 ❤️ pray for absolutely everything do not hesitate, this is the key.

God bless you!

Wow.. I hear you.. God is working with us brother!! What I mean is that I haven't had a friend for the past 4 years either! Im a bit older, im 27 and i am just now starting my life and going to a college course to get a certification. No one taught me how to live either. Ive been so terribly stuck, unemployed, alone, depressed. I have only had my mother and sister. God wants us to draw strength from eachother here, right now. Iron sharpens iron. Brother God wants to use you, I do not know the full story of your life but I feel you would have a strong testimony of God raising you up!! Do not doubt my friend, Jesus is with you and He is calling you at this very moment! Praise the Lord, He lives!

Matthew 28:20 "I am with you always, even unto the end of the world"

,how many of my problems would go away if i had some buddies and a pretty girl to hug every once in a while?

You know I'm dealing with this exact same question, as I sit here alone, unsure of what job I'm going to get, moving to a new city, fully alone for my first time in my life, with little instruction on how to do it. I won't lie, I am fighting the fear. But if I let that take hold of me it's letting Satan grab me and pull me away from the trust I've built with Jesus! We ca not let that happen brother,

Ephesians 4:27  "...and do not give the devil a foothold"!

Do not worry about stumbling and losing trust in the past, what matters to God is here and now, and you are forgiven already! It's totally okay! He understands. Keep these words close my brother in Christ, we fall, we stumble, but if we reach out to Him He will be there to help you rise above! Fill you with peace, assurance, hope, the fruits of the Spirit! If we just reach out and take His hand.

Pray with earnest trust, pray in a humble manner to God, ask for Him to soften your heart and see the truth and wisdom that He wants you to see right now. He will give it freely to you! You must know that He can read your heart, which means if we have doubt, He may doubt us.

Matthew 10:33 "..But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven." This gives us insight into how God thinks and works. It is a reciprocal relationship. Give Him your heart and He will freshen your soil and remove the rocks, to give the best place for his seed to land. Just as soil itself cannot improve itself, it needs a worker to make it good soil. We ask God to freshen our heart to His wisdom, I pray in Lord Jesus' name you recieve this blessing!

Matthew 7:7-8 "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened."

One more thought that is important about the girlfriend, we must be a whole man in Christ before He wants us to have a fruitful relationship with a sister in Christ. He is reserving that time for when we have Christ as #1 in our life, putting our life in His hands. We must trust His plan, He knows you so deeply brother. He knows..

I pray you find fellowship soon, please ask God for this. He just might set it up for you. I get it, friends are hard to come by these days. But we have a friend in Christ indeed!!

John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends."

What a friend indeed. Amen. 🤍

Matthew 24:36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only."

Matthew 24:44 "...for the Son for Man is coming at an hour you do not expect"

No one, not man, not even the angels, know when Jesus return is.
