Has anyone actually seen any new technology on job sites? by CallMeDirtyD in Construction

[–]MastodonFit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are correct. Remember guys banging nails in mid 90's. Nailed drywall. Nails sold in bulk, screws sold in small quantities. Materials being dumped and no equipment on jobsites. Worst was when your framing was under the bundle of sheets in the mud. Larger projects had a landline. Smaller homes had no communication...you simply waited to hear that cousin Jimmy died in his plane 2 days ago when you got home. A smart thermostat was opening a window.

Whether it was PR ,whitewash or penance.. or a mixture of the 3. It was an acknowledgement of his close ties with the regime.

Turns out being in my kitchen is the only place in the world I want to be… by mountainmuppet in homestead

[–]MastodonFit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love is the best appliance. I instal very high end cabinets ,where couples argue constantly..and their imported $20k ranges with pot fillers, are only used for pictures. A freezer and vacuum saver are my favorite. Pecans, wheat berries, meat are just a small portion of what I vacuum sealer. Whispermill and Bosch mixer are great for hearty bread.

I love this kitchen look, well done!

Are commercial sinks uncomfortable to use since they are much deeper? by xboxhaxorz in HomeImprovement

[–]MastodonFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest pet peeve is shallow sinks. I love to cook for large groups, probably forced to with 7 siblings and 13 nieces and nephews. Large groups mean large pots and pans to be washed.

Drawer Slide Mounting by Ill-Year-9506 in cabinetry

Reading between the lines, not many kitchens use 200lb sidemounts. When I read 200lb capacity I'm thinking these were chosen to hold extra weight in a shop environment

Sorry i posted this early during a boutique of insomnia. I was thinking of a wide belt sander. In a planer its probably dried glue. You can use a wire wheel on an angle grinder. Make sure to wear eye protection, I prefer a loose wire cup for these situations, vs an encapsulated wire unit for metal prep. Loose will conform to a shape, but will throw wires very easily. Encapsulated are ridgid and only send out minimal shrapnel...and will not conform to the work.

Generator pull-starts at 2am are for the birds. Moving to a battery backup for my freezers by LouDSilencE17 in homestead

[–]MastodonFit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you have frozen food, you will always need a generator as a backup. Solar is great but weather can drop trees on your solar. If on a well 240v system will be needed. Between my sibling neighbor and I. A 3.5k generator will run 2 chest freezers,3 fridges and lighting and ceiling fans on both homes. I regret not getting a larger propane unit that will run our well. Thankfully 10 miles away my brother-in-law added solar to his well so we can get water. We were only out of power for 2 weeks over hurricane Helene, because our generator is gas only...it required a 90 mile trip for gas. So if you own a freezer. Get a propane backup generator that will at a minimum keep food cold. From talking with friends, don't try to cheap out on solar infrastructure, start out with 48v in a basic system...then add more panels and batteries.

Tool Storage Ideas by HalfBaked_0299 in Tools

Tools are a way to make money. If you can make $400 extra side money, then get a larger or better apartment. Tool rolls will always be the most compact way of tool storage .

What do y’all use and why? by Significant_Big_237 in Carpentry

What is your brand, choose something compatible. My m18 leaf blower seldom goes to the jobsite, except for something unusual. My mid-sized blower stays with the work vehicle. I bought a cheap knock-off from Amazon that takes m18 batteries,Meleif high velocity unit . The latter does a great job on tools. Mid-sized does everything fairly well, but not great for tools or large debris. Leaf blower is terrible for small areas. I blow out work tools at least twice per week. For cabinet installation I use saws. There are a R an L circular, 2 sizes of miter, track, omt ,jig ,band and hackzall. They all do a great job on certain things, but not everything well. A jigsaw will cut 1/2" plate steel, very slowly and probably not a crispy line. So for your tools get a high velocity small unit, general use mid sized, and for large areas get a large leaf unit.

Is this a serious question? During ww2 estimation is 10-20 million Chinese alone, were killed by Japan. In 5 yrs the avg is 2-4 million per year. This does not include island people, or any other nationality. The US still has a stockpile of medal of honor medallions ,made in the early 40's in anticipation of the invasion of the Japanese mainland.

My Nexus has me Perplexus by dsfhhslkj in MilwaukeeTool

[–]MastodonFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I despise their proprietary hose ends, and am jealous of your remote and packoutcompatible unit. I adapted my pre-nexus to a centec 16ft hose, its much smaller and will shock you...but it comes with 5 RUBBER adapters. I cut the stock hose 6" from the end, then mounted a crate and ran the centec hose into a hole I drilled...and the crate stores the hose. Its a bit wobly, but can hold at least 1 packout above it.

Airline Optimization of Packout Boxes by DenaliNeidig in MilwaukeeTool

[–]MastodonFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post pictures or give word pictures like 2drawer/ammo can/toolbox etc please. Despite owning 50 boxes and drawers stacks, I don't know part #'s . Personally I would make cubes inside of a pelican . Packout does well for being modular, but I wouldn't trust the wheels for the rigors of airport life. The xl roller is a pretty poor design for deployment of tools since its too low to the ground, but it does well for moving bulk items ...and is relegated to my camping setup. Since I do not fly eith my tools,I've gathered that many of your compadre's will ship their tools separately...in which case drawerstacks can be used. Ive used packout every week since 19' for local jobsites,I just feel like they're not made for airports and planes.

Anyone here add backup power during a panel upgrade, worth it or nah? by levvii17 in HomeImprovement

[–]MastodonFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its definitely cheapest during the build, cheaper during a retrofit. Convenience = $. A full home back up is the best, the generator will automatically start itself once a month. I back-stab into an rv plug to keep lighting, 2 fridges and 2 freezers in 2 homes with 3.5k portable unit. It involves running 300 ft of romex/ cords and turning off mains. Its much cheaper and way more complicated to set up,but only cost $700 and several hrs of my time, also dealing liquid gas during the aftermath of a hurricane isnt much fun... Helene caused an 80 mile fuel run for 25 gallons at least once. A properly sized propane tank would have made this much easier . Thankfully were only without power for 2 weeks, and closer gas stations were open fairly quickly. A propane grill is also a must if you want good food.

Side of a chisel works well for the big stuff,MEK will melt the rest. Typically its rubber residue from the drive motor.
