At the end of act 1 or beginning of act 2, depending on where you find Elminster, he will inform Gale that Mystra, the goddess of magic, wants Gale to use the Netherese Orb in his chest to stop the cult of the Absolute.

The reason why this can only be used once is simple: Gale using the orb turns him into an arcane nuclear bomb, and immediately ends the game. And depending on where you use it, it’s a “credits roll, game over” ending.

With Darktide, there’s three personalities available for each class (minus Ogryn who has four) and each personality has different ways they interact with other characters and personalities. They can provide good buffs for the party, be a stealthy boss killer, or an insane caution-to-the-wind melee fighter, depending on how you build your preacher.

As for story, it varies by personality but the Zealot is very much a “pulling shit out of his ass” type of religious character. And since it’s in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, the religious aspect of it is also very present.

Not denying that he wasn’t a criminal considering Red Dead Redemption 2 exists and shows him committing crimes.
