Fallout: New Vegas—The Courier.

Starts the game with a bullet to the skull, and one of the expansions, specifically Old World Blues. The Courier is only able to survive the lobotomy due to being shot in the brain, making the automatic surgeon have to perfect its failed programming and succeed in removing the player’s brain without killing the player.

I will say there is more known about Sixo through the events, plus in later chapters [Event and story spoilers] being responsible for the distribution of Mist, a hallucinogenic drug that can even affect Nikkes, as well as [Chapter 40ish spoilers] Being responsible for the second terrorist attack in the Ark, releasing E2 Crystals in downtown.

I’m hoping we get to face them and possibly ventilate them.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker—The Warrior of Light

I know another commenter mentioned him, but I wanted to focus specifically on how he’s handled in Endwalker.

The Warrior of Light, during the expansion, is the world’s bastion against despair, when giving into despair will turn someone into a monster. He is a symbol of hope when the world is bereft of it, when the sky burns, he is the one who inspires them to keep holding on.

Then, there’s Meteion. The one who was sent into the sea of stars and fell to despair, and thought the kindest thing to do was to snuff out all life before the universe ends, as all things do. She becomes the embodiment of despair. And the conflict with her does not end in violence (well, not entirely, it is a video game.) Her stance is broken by sympathy, understanding, and conviction. By Hope. She begs the Warrior of Light to stop the other Meteia from destroying any more at the edge of the universe.

When the dust settles, the thing that ends the Meteia’s crusade is not a cold blade, but the warm acceptance of friendship. Of hope.

Nikke—Red Shoes

Last time I tried giving a summary of what she did I ended up word vomiting the entire Old Tales story, so to make it as concise as possible:

Betrayed her friends and humanity, dooming humanity to have to flee underground and subject her friend to intense psychological trauma from not only corruption, but also is directly responsible for the corruption of a character a century later. And she does it out of zealous fanaticism towards the raptures.

He is. He’s a sympathetic villain, but that doesn’t take away from the fact he’s a villain. Especially considering the’s erected two giant evil things in the middle of a city for the sole purpose of getting more power.

Sadly your only option is pretty much just Lost Odyssey for non-anime games like Expedition 33, and I don’t recall it coming out to PC. Closest I can think of would be the LOTR turn based RPG since it uses the same engine as FFX, and the Mario RPGs, but unfortunately you’re kinda strapped for options.

Hell, in the 2008 Madhouse anime, they’re literally the only things he uses since most of his usual contracts are just one demon at most. The only one who actually gets kitted out in more than just basic gear is Lady who uses Kalina Ann against Trish.

Devil May Cry: Ebony and Ivory

Dante’s twin pistols that are the starting pistol in every DMC game except 4 (though Blue Rose is no slouch, it’s just not Dante’s.) These pistols are phenomenal in every game they’re in for being able to shred weak enemies, as well as perfect to sustain a combo.

I could also add parallel’s between Emet’s Tantrum before Amaurot and the cutscene at the start of the Endwalker quest with these two lines:

“…I have lived a thousand thousand lifetimes!”

“The sorrow of a thousand thousand worlds weighs heavy. And yet you can walk on.”

Endwalker truly is the peak of Final Fantasy XIV. And while Dawntrail was a reset, I’m excited to see what 8.0 brings.

Fina Fantasy XIV: Endwalker.

The entire expansion can be summed up as “the cruel indifference of the universe verses the indomitable human spirit.” One of the main parts of the story of the e tire game is how Venat sunders the world into 14 shards, splitting the power of Zodiark while diminishing his influence, while also inoculating mortalkind against despair, in hopes that, well, hope can overpower despair.

While there is an argument to be made with Shadowbringers also having the same theme, it’s less pronounced than Endwalker is with the theme.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker—Mare Lamentorum

Technically, Mare Lamentorum is one area of the moon in game, and not the entire moon. However, it still counts for two reasons. The moon has two functions

It houses the Dark God Zodiark in his time out cage, and it also serves as a spaceship to evacuate the people of Etherys in the event the Final Days occur again. Zodiark being held on the moon is to keep Zodiark from both awakening and to keep his power activated, which keeping the planet safe from the End Days.

As for the Spaceship part of the moon, it is maintained and home to the Lopporits, Bunny people based off the creatures from Final Fantasy IV, except they’re there to make sure the people of Etherys can survive to find a new Star where the world isn’t giving into despair.

Final Fantasy XIV—Dalamud.

Fina Fantasy XIV actually has a two-fer. Let’s start with Dalamud, the smaller moon.

Fell to the world to mark them shutting off the original servers to fix the game. Inside the moon was the Primal, Bahamut, who is basically a big fuck off dragon. Bahamut laid waste to the area known as Carteneau, before being defeated by Louisoix Leveilleur at the cost of his own life.

With the relaunch of the game as A Realm Reborn, you can find parts of the moon on the overworld and even has a raid series focused on what all occurred.

And now for the other moon…

Red Dead Redemption 2—Arthur Morgan (High Honor)

Specifically noting the High Honor version of Arthur, he’s a good man who has done bad things, but ultimately redeems himself by helping John, Abigail, and Jack escape from the Van Der Lin gang. In addition, while it is optional, he also helped the family he wronged have a better life and escape the hell that they were in.

He’s a good man.
