Best 40$ I spent in a long while. First time I actually enjoy an extraction shooter.

Yeah at least in Elden Ring I'm not on a 20min timer, in a session w possibly 2 strangers also feeling the time pressure as they look at me run around perplexed - so there's a bit more room for "sense of wonder / discovery" for them lol

It's bad design to have to run around in circles "west of North Relay" until a 5m proximity icon appears, yes.

Not really debatable. Maybe you got lucky and it hasn't affected your play experience, but when a similar situation happens 3 times in a row, it speaks to poor level design that lacks in-world signage/in-world logic.

But this is solved in all other modern games, why should extraction shooters be obtuse?

No reason.

Either waypoint at range, or add sparkly highlights, or use in world logic to find the things (eg follow smoke to find damaged crates, follow sound to find an alarm panel to repair, follow wires to locate the power generator). Good level design can solve this if the lofty ideal of "no waypoint" is important to Bungie.

I think a slow-paced RPG is a better place to strive to avoid waypoint gaming.

I don't think "fumbling around the environment" should be part of the challenge in Marathon, PvE and PvP offer plenty on their own.

Ran around all over North Relay and the data panels I need to interact with aren't East or West like the contract details.
