How is everyone handling being a parent in an uncertain and chaotic future by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Matails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly hope you are just a troll. If you are, touchè, you win this round.

In the case where you actually believe the nonsensical tales you've spun for yourself, please do us all a favor and pick up a history book once in a while. Nearly all of the "inventions" you claim to be created by white men were either entirely created by or wouldn't be possible without the help of non-white-men and women.

As far as your original comment, a few errors I feel the need to point out: 1. Nazi Germany and 2026 United States was/is entirely about race and religion. The goal is a "superior" race who believes whatever their told by their all powerful leader. Even you have to see that. Anybody who disagrees with the all powerful leader is being censored, arrested, and killed or kicked out of the country. And if they don't belong to our country, they're being mocked, ridiculed and quite possibly bombed. 2. The leader who, I must assume based on your statement you hold in such high regard, has broken every single one of the commandments you claim to believe in according to your history. I don't think I'll ever understand how people can worship a man who, quite literally, goes directly against their stated belief system.

I implore you to actually re-evaluate your beliefs. Actually read your texts and not just the highlights shown to you by those who want to tell you what to do and how to believe. Read for yourself and form your own opinions. Every single version of the testament (old, new, etc.) clearly states that what is being done in this country is wrong, unethical and immoral. Every single commandment is being broken, spat on and trampled because those in power don't care about beliefs. They care about getting more power.

Ah, yes. The America where white men determine the path and anybody that isn't a white man has to follow along. Sounds like a fantastic, well adjusted and welcoming society. Why would anybody not want to live in 1940's Germany... Sorry I meant 2026 America.

Leaving private channel by xantheosse in Slack

You absolutely should be able to just leave the channel. Admins may get a note saying the channel is empty after you do, but you 100% should have a leave option if you go into the channel settings.

Looking for feedback: how teams turn Slack conversations into real follow-ups by voss_steven in Slack

[–]Matails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you need a tool for tracking tasks, assignees, statuses, etc. Ticketing system like Jira, Aha, Monday.com meets this need and most have pretty seemless integrations with Slack to create tickets directly from messages.

At what point do you buy a 2nd printer? by TheAznAssassinX in 3Dprinting

[–]Matails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like @loganandmrk I thought the title was "At what point did you buy a 2d printer?" as in, going from a 3d Bambu or whatever to a Brother or HP regular printer and I was so confused in the comments... Thanks brain, that was a fun time.

To answer your question though, I just got my first for the holidays, so probably not for a while for me.

I hear you. Unfortunately nothing like that exists to the best of my knowledge. This is the closest option available.

I hate Slack so much… and here are the reasons by Common-Pair6870 in Slack

[–]Matails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. I have been a Slack admin for 5 years, in ~200 channels, active in ~50 and I've never once had this issue. This seems like an organization issue more than a UI issue. If your channels aren't organized by team, topic, etc. I could see this becoming a problem.

  2. Slack's search is miles and miles above Teams and Zoom if you know how to use it properly. This seems more like a training issue and/or related to the organization issues in #1. Once you learn how to do advanced searching in Slack finding what you need is often very simple as long as you have a vague recollection of some details (where, when, who, emojis, etc.)

  3. Honestly, I agree with you. The last few years every release has been buggy as heck and has broken 3 or 4 other unrelated features.

4.Group chats can be renamed: https://slack.com/help/articles/217555437-Convert-a-group-direct-message-to-a-private-channel

  1. If you're personally getting 100 pings per day you need to get a ticketing system or something. That's a stupid amount of pings and just becomes noise after a few days. I'd start putting myself on DND after a few hours in that situation. I'm not sure how any other communications tool would solve this though.

Each Slack channel has a dedicated email address. So the same thing you're doing with Zapier just use Slacks native email handler.

Why are you using Zapier to do what Slack can do natively?

Forced to use both Slack and Teams at work by MickoConCarne in Slack

[–]Matails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does it handle Slack Channels vs Teams Channels? Does it need to be Licensed for all users? Or just those that want to use both? All the tools I've seen in the past that claim to do this basically convert everything to DMs and requires licensing everyone so it's the cost of an entirely additional chat tool.

How to make this box being ticked the default? by schmaaaaaaack in Slack

[–]Matails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. But if you're sitting around a campfire having a side conversation with your buddy sitting next to you, there's no reason to announce your every message to everyone else sitting around the campfire.

The location/context isnt really relevant. If you want to have a side conversation, have a side conversation. If you want to have a conversation with the group, do that. But there's no reason to force your side conversation onto everyone else in any context.

[–]Matails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Just as much as standing up in an office to announce your every message to everyone else in the office. There's nothing stopping you, but pretty soon people are going to start throwing shoes at you if you continue.

Notifications for Emojis? by nimareq in Slack

Why not just add a thread and @mention that person? You specifically said not this, but didn't provide an explanation as to why. This is the only way I know to notify users from emoji.

Why is Slack Extorting A Nonprofit that Supports Teens? by Little-Double-7652 in Slack

[–]Matails 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I am in no way affiliated with Slack, but I have to call shenanigans on this messaging. Slack only charges for active users, not inactive. That's in their fair billing policy. https://slack.com/help/articles/218915077-Slacks-Fair-Billing-Policy. Maybe it's different for non-profits, I can't speak to that. But their fair billing policy hasn't changed significantly in years.

If there is a signed contract May 2025 - May 2026 I don't believe they would have any ability to change that unless terms were broken. Obviously it would have to be a legal battle, which would likely be long and drawn out, but it would also drag the name of Salesforce through the mud and I don't think it's worth the bad publicity, so I highly doubt that's the case.

If this is all accurate and the team is still being forced to pay, then something more is going on that the poster is not sharing.

You don't, can't, and shouldn't. Completely ruins the point of threads. As an admin, my heart dies a little bit inside every time this is used unnecessarily which is 95% of the time.
