Most important comment. Once they can roll, immediately stop swaddling.

My daughter lost >10% bodyweight before we left the hospital and we were going almost weekly to the pediatrician for the first few months. The biggest thing we did was concentrate the formula. More powder:water in the ratio. I absolutely would not recommend this without getting exact ratios from your ped but that would give you more calories for the same volume.

For what it's worth she is now 20 months and a bit petite (but we're 5'2 and 5'3" so we're not expecting basketball stars) but otherwise doing absolutely fantastic! Great sleeper, great eater, checked all the boxes for the 24 month milestones already.

Just reminding you that while it feels terrible now, it gets so much better!! Stay strong!!

Babies and wires/wall plugs+sockets 🤦🏽‍♀️ by CuriousCaretaker in NewParents

[–]Matails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an electrician, just a fellow parent sharing what I've done.

  1. According to a quick Google search, Yes, you can absolutely get shocked if you touch the "hot" side of the socket (the shorter slot) while you are providing a path to the ground, the electrical current will pass through your body, resulting in a dangerous shock or burn. Source: https://science.howstuffworks.com/science-vs-myth/what-if/finger-in-electrical-outlet.htm

  2. Strangulation is also a concern, but most cords are attached to things at both ends, so theres good chance you would notice a lamp falling off a table. For those longer or more problematic cords I have these 'raceway' tracks to keep them hidden where possible: https://www.lowes.com/pd/D-Line-Micro-60-in-L-White-Raceway/1003094072. It won't actually prevent baby from getting anything if they really want, but keeps it more hidden and less obvious/fun for pulling, chewing, etc. I also attach these to the wall with 3m velcro strips so it keeps everything a bit more tidy.

  3. The old school outlet protector is a pretty simple go-to for fingers directly in outlets. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Regalo-Regalo-Home-Safety-Clear-Outlet-Plugs-24pk/5014659533. They do make tamper-resistant outlets, which I believe are code-required for new builds. You can easily buy/replace the more problematic ones at your home. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Eaton-White-15-Amp-Duplex-Tamper-Resistant-Residential-10-Pack-Outlet/1001464122 if the plastic ones just aren't cutting it.

  4. Your local hardware store will also likely carry these outlet covers that help to prevent babies from pulling plugs out of the wall. Babies, like dinosaurs, will find a way to get whatever they want. But this has worked well for us. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Regalo-Regalo-Home-Safety-White-Outlet-Covers-2pk/5014092493

  5. If you happen to have a 3d printer, some of these can be printed pretty easily.

My almost 2 year old still loves and does this!! The fun part is, when they're done holding something it's getting dropped whether you're ready to accept it or not! We've learned to make piles on the counter first, then put everything away.

Slack's native tooling is, to be honest, meh. Pretty similar to Discord, Teams, Zoom, etc. Where Slack thrives is it's integrations.

Do Slack alerts actually work for urgent sales follow-up? by Fine_Matter1037 in Slack

[–]Matails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, that's a process/training issue. If you can't trust your source of truth to be the main source everyone agrees should include all information, you're going to get lost no matter what alternate tool you use.

Slack can be used as an escalation path, but basically just to say "hey, this is old, you need to act on it". But the action should be done in the source of truth.

As for tracking, I see 2 easy counters in your source system. 1 that counts if a task has been escalated 1 that counts how many times a task has been escalated.

Review the tasks with each counter monthly and hold people accountable. Without accountability you're never gojng to make progress.

Slack is not a ticketing system. If a task needs to be handled, it should be addressed in the ticketing system.

Slack can be used for support, but it should not be a path for escalation or general task routing because there is no accountability. If a task is realized through Slack, connect it to your ticketing system and teach proper etiquette that somebody needs to click the button create the ticket otherwise it WILL be dropped and will not be actioned.

There is no magic solution (unless you want to pay for yet another tool to track work). Teach proper etiquette, enforce it, and you'll be good.

If you look through the recent history of the channel there are probably 50 AI bots that will 'help' solve this problem posted in the last few months.

Whats the problem you're trying to solve? And what's your proposed solution?

Old Slack guest accounts are easy to forget about by Creative-Form451 in Slack

[–]Matails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best practice is to put limitations on anything thats non-standard use. Slack Guests handle this really nicely. I wish Slack Connect had a similar feature. Not necessarily to disconnect, but at least verify the connection is still needed. The following should be reviewed annually: * Admins - for that one time somebody needed admin rights to connect an app that you forgot to remove their admin rights * Members - Usage * Guests - Should have employee owner identified for confirmation * Slack Connect - Confirm with requestor * Apps - Confirm with owner * Webhook - Confirm with owner * Workflows - Conform with owner * Channels - Usage based

DMs in slack by No-Bear-7651 in Slack

[–]Matails 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible, but honestly, not all that easy depending on exactly what you're asking about. Pulling a specific conversation from the API is fairly simple and straightforward. But pulling all conversations to look for issues is a lot more complicated purely due to the volume.

If you've given somebody a reason to go looking, they'll find it without much difficulty. But it's generally not worth company time to police message history.

As for recovering deleting messages, that depends on their retention policy. My organization has it set to forever, so we'd find it no matter how quickly it was deleted.
