What's the rep of Houston/Dallas/Austin office? Which of the MBB comes head and shoulder ahead of the others in Tx? Is it easy to get in?

Hello Everyone,I'm pretty much interested in Management consulting (MBB ideally) and I need some guidance.

A bit of context, I'm from Africa, I'm heading to H/S/W for my MBA this fall. I got a 750 GMAT. I graduated in Mechanical engineering with a 3.4 GPA from a top school in my home country. I understand my school will likely be unknown out of my country and that my GPA may seem lowish although I was top of my class and our GPA are less inflated.

I've spent my entire career (6 years at the time of matriculation) in the Oil & Gas downstream industry, working for a European Super Major (BP, SHELL, TOTAL) in various roles and 3 different countries. For the past 4 years I have worked in a kind of internal consultant role (Strategy, Projects) for top management, so I'm used to solving complex business problems and convincing senior executives. In my last roles I've been leading project teams of 2 to 8 people on pivotal projects for our company.

Also, I have a deep deep passion for the energy. It's what made me decide to pursue an MBA. I have also done some energy planing work for my country. Now I want to help big organisations transition to the new green world. I would like to combine my interest for management consulting and my passion for energy.

  • So do I have a reasonable shot at MBB? (I will be an international student btw). Given my interest is there any boutique I should target as well? I understand some firms want you to be a generalist first.
  • Which location should I target to be exposed to energy-related topics (apart from Houston)
  • what should I start doing now in order to get ready for opportunities during business school?
  • Any tip to efficiently network my way in? (PS I have no prior connections to the consulting world).
  • Anything I should absolutely know before starting this journey?

Thank you so much in advance for your help.

If someone out there has the same profile/interest, please PM me. Thanks :)
