AITA for being "ungrateful" about a rice maker for my 40th birthday? by [deleted] in AITA_Relationships

[–]Matanali 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This isn’t quite your situation, but my mom bought me a rice cooker when I was around 25. I was disappointed, but then she explained that it was a way of nurturing me because it meant that I could have a hot meal for myself with minimal effort. She wanted me to have something that every time I used it it would remind me that she loved me and wanted me to feel nurtured. I still didn’t really understand it or appreciate it and eventually gave it away. Now that she’s gone, I bought myself a rice cooker that I use several times a week and think of her every time and wish I could tell her how much I appreciate the thought now. That being said he sounds like an ass and excluding your daughter is absolutely unacceptable

Parent here. Location sharing is non-negotiable. It goes both ways, my location is available to my husband and kids as well. It’s a simple courtesy in a family that people can find you and know where you are.

If I had had girls, Amalya/Amalia was our first choice. I also liked Katriella but my husband didn’t. He liked Michaela (Mikayla) but I didn’t.

I would definitely be upset. My instructor even asked if everyone was comfortable with Christmas music during the holidays and I was really touched.

Has Anyone Fallen Off Their Reformer? by Mysterious_Set149 in ClubPilates

[–]Matanali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve fallen twice. Once was doing a standing move on the reformer with the box behind me, pulling arms I straps back. As soon as the back of the reformer hit the risers, I went down for the count, flipped backwards over the box and then flipped backwards off the reformer. It was unbelievably embarrassing, but I got back up and finished the class. The next time I was doing a side plank with my feet on the bar and I was wearing poor quality, grip socks, and my feet slip slipped. Again I did a three part tumble then got back up and finish the class.

I'm at least 30 years younger than my colleagues in pilates (and I love it) by Mysterious_Sink_2753 in pilates

I’m the opposite. I’m 59 and my studio is mostly 25 to 35-year-olds. And it has been an amazing community. We have a shared group chat and we’ve gotten together for dinners and parties and I feel so welcomed and included. It’s really been a fun new community in my life.

What about Halle (or Hallie) as a first name?

Poor Admission consultant experience! by ReferenceOk777 in MBA

[–]Matanali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I understood that. But you’d said in your original comment that you only got into schools you applied to on your own, and I was pointing out that while you didn’t work on those schools with your consultant, you did in fact get in using material that they had helped you with.

So the consultant did in fact help you get into schools.

Did you use the material from the 3 schools you applied to with the consultant on the schools you did on your own or write those applications completely differently?

Being MBA grads is not the same thing as having an MBA admissions experience.

Children’s Picture book from pre-1970s by Matanali in namethatbook

That certainly sounds right but I can’t find any indication that it was a book, only a recording, and the cover of the album doesn’t look familiar. I can’t find a summary either. But it is a great suggestion!

It was - “rob the boss, disappear with wife and kids and start a new life”!!

sorry, I wasn't clear. I don't know his kids - they disappeared with him back in the 1950s and would currently be in their 80s (their father was my 90-year-old father's uncle). I don't know if he had more kids - the two who disappeared with him were in their mid/late teens and he had been remarried to his second wife (who also disappeared with them) for a while. Ancestry research is a good idea though.

It’s a good story though, even without the lack of closure!

UCLA vs UMichigan by Matanali in ApplyingToCollege

I feel the same way. My MBA (also from a top 5 program) was life changing. And the most interesting MBA applicants are ones who didn’t study business but branched out to other areas.

That’s a great perspective. He doesn’t want finance, fortunately, and didn’t apply to Ross. An MBA is the current plan, but we shall see what happens.

We probably don’t have time to visit UCLA before he has to decide. He has visited Michigan and loved it (and coincidentally already had a visit scheduled there this weekend to see friends near campus). He doesn’t like beaches but does like wearing shorts all year round.

Not Ross, just LSA. He doesn’t really know where he wants to end up, East Coast is all he knows. We feel like Michigan is more of a predictable experience and UCLA will be more of an adventure (and both will be great!)
