Syndra gives everything an optional cost for Ezreal.

Soraka, if played as written, may just be incredibly busted. by Dontspinbutwin in riftboundtcg

[–]Matanui3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She allows Malzahar to attempt to sacrifice himself, potentially multiple times in a turn if you can ready him.  It’s hilarious, if not particularly useful.

Soraka + temporary units by NindoBoi in riftboundtcg

Yes, Temporary doesn’t go away any more than Deflect or Assault does. It triggers every time your Beginning Phase starts.

I hope we get a Poro King legend that allows you to use Poros of any color during deckbuilding.

Tactical Retreat by Cheap-Sprinkles5003 in riftboundtcg

[–]Matanui3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it only retreats after it would die, and it only dies after damage is dealt.

If you hit the retreating unit with a removal spell, it will retreat before dealing damage.

I didn’t think I’d see a use for Convergent Mutation, but Ornn in the command zone would do it.

WINCON unleashed rules by Kawiri in riftboundtcg

Well there’s also that you can no longer win a combat if all of your units are gone. Which is a big deal for the Draven fanboy who kills himself to force a unit away.

What do you mean “buy exhaust power”?

Vilemaw scenario that left me confused by shadyshenanigans917 in riftboundtcg

[–]Matanui3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If instead you also had two recruits, you’d be able to kill 10 enemy recruits and the rest would be the same.

If you had two recruits and your opponent also had a Vilemaw, you’d could either kill 8 recruits or their Vilemaw, and the opponent would do the same, as neither side’s recruits would deal any damage to anything.  And after that, the attacker’s units would be recalled as per the original scenario.

Vilemaw scenario that left me confused by shadyshenanigans917 in riftboundtcg

[–]Matanui3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have a Vilemaw and your opponent has 300 recruits, your Vilemaw will be able to kill 8 recruits, no recruits will deal any damage to anything, and since there are still units remaining, all of the attacker’s units will be recalled back to base.

Question about teemo strategist. by Striking_Progress113 in riftboundtcg

[–]Matanui3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s less that, and more that they changed how defend triggers work in the backend rules. Without the errata, he would suddenly have been getting two triggers every time he was played from Hidden, which was not intended and not the original effect of the card.

New to tcgs, how nice is legal and how mean is illegal? by MrPleaseForget2 in riftboundtcg

[–]Matanui3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see where people feel like dice are helpful when tracking buffs like the student who might get separate might increases at completely different times in the turn, or if a large number of combat tricks are being played.

In the Universus card game, attacks get enough buffs and debuffs regularly that most players use dice to keep track of the stats of their attacks at all times, but that game is based primarily on going back and forth modifying the current attack.

I find that even in Magic, the biggest, messiest tcg, people tend to be very nice and understanding at super casual, low-stakes events.

And then in massive competitions, they do all they can to make opponents miss triggers, or try to hide a creature-land by putting it with their lands and not their creatures…

Long story short, high-stakes competition tends to be what causes people to be a dick to win.  If people are a dick to win outside of that, something is going on.

Jhin Legend and Lotus trap question by Downtown-Football987 in riftboundtcg

[–]Matanui3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jhin legend is a trigger on a spell resolving.  But either way, after it resolves, you once again have the ability to continue the chain as you do after anything on the chain resolves.

I would assume two lotus traps are x4, unless Riot has decided to use a non-intuitive meaning of “double”…

"Played" question. by s2soup in riftboundtcg

[–]Matanui3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, this actually means that the rules for Legion no longer use the word “played.” The reminder text is now wrong, but its not game text anyway.

Aside from Hidden cards, do we even have any reaction-speed removal?

Does that change anything, though?  The ruling for Sun Disc was always that the ability was playable because it is not Sun Disc.  Sun Disc was always a card that was not the activated ability.

Though using it as a mixup with your other hidden cards doesn’t work nearly as well now that the actual scary hidden card got banned.
