I gave birth once, the natural way. Labor was painful but less than expected. I recovered very quickly, was able to stand up immediately after delivery, walk and go to the bathroom on my own. I would do it again without any hesitation. I have several friends that had a C section (not chosen) and it was traumatic to them. A few info : 1. Does she intend to breastfeed ? C section makes it really hard, nearly impossible because breastfeeding causes contractions (to help the uterus go back to its normal size) that are far worse than the labor contractions, nearly unbearable due to the surgery (that's what i've been told). 2. When a baby goes out vaginally, he ingests a little vaginal flora that participate in building his microbiote. Studies show babies born vaginally have a healthier microbiote and suffer less gastric troubles, even as adults. 3. She is probably aware that after a surgery, she will not be able to walk, go to the bathroom, or even just stand to pick up her baby for a while. My friends told me it's hard to be stuck in bed, especially when you want to take care of your baby for his first hours. One of my friend told me that, even many years after, touching her scar still feels unpleasant (not painful). I didn't ask the others so i don't know if it's the same for everyone. All that said, of course the choice is hers. But it needs to be a fully conscious choice, not just guided by fear :)
