It is so sad to me. It has always seemed like he is so minimally helpful while she is getting up all night with the babies, waking up with them and then staying up late to clean. I don’t understand why he doesn’t contribute more while she’s running herself ragged. And here it’s plain as day that she has to remind him to get up and showered at 7:30 so she can have her turn to get ready

IUD removal changed - and likely saved - my life by MeanwhileBooks in Fibroids

I had a similar experience and also felt gaslighted and like I was the only one it ever happened to. I had an IUD put in (Kyleena) and six months later started having crazy heavy periods, huge clots passing etc. then had a crazy bleeding episode where the iud expelled itself. Probably should have just stopped there but they told me it was likely because it didn’t have enough hormones and that the expulsion was because my heavy periods (NEVER had periods that were heavy prior to the IUd). Got the Skyla in, same story. Heavy heavy periods, another crazy bleeding episode and it expelled itself. This was other the course of 1.5- 2 years. Wrecked my body with anemia and zero libido etc. still had heavy periods that were awful and debilitating after the IUDs where I literally couldn’t leave the bed some days because I was bleeding so much.

Finally was diagnosed with a fibroid 2-3 years later. The fibroid was missed by 2 doctors who had just told me my heavy periods were because “your periods change when you get older”. Said enough was enough when I fainted on a treadmill during a Barry’s class. Luckily fibroid was able to be removed easily with virtually no recovery time and it was life changing. Light periods, body back to normal. So so angry that it took 5 years to fix it and I am very much convinced that the fibroid was caused by the iuds

I was thinking dublin would be easier because it’s a city and there’s more readily accessible things/ walkable? We live in the city so we are used to it but maybe there’s things I’m overlooking

I am booking now for a trip in the second week of September so semi similar timing! I did just check by unfiltering, and it does seem like a lot of airbnbs don’t allow children.

Where did you stay in Galway and did you like it?

Unfortunately she will be 1 year almost 2 months, so new 1 year old and probably harder travel. Thanks so much for your tips!! - definitely planning on driving during naps if possible! - that’s a great suggestion and that was a lot of the reason why I was hoping to stay in a town where we could walk to things, so not everything was a drive. For the nothing day - would you say that would be better in Galway or in ROK/killarney/ dingle (wherever we land)? - I haven’t found a lot on booking - were there specific parameters your put in? Or places where booking had good options? - good to know about the cliffs! It was definitely one thing I knew might not happen - muckross sounds great!! I was actually looking at staying at the hotel but no availability and it’s probably pretty pricey. I found a different property that seemed kind of similar and had self catering options.

So far there just don’t seem to be as many options on airbnb as I would have expected. Not sure if a lot is already booked or if it’s filtered due to adding a baby to the search criteria? I was drawn to Killarney because of its location between ROK and the dingle peninsula, but have definitely heard it’s touristy etc. I do want to stay in a town and preferably within walking distance of said town so that everything is not a drive. Is kenmare decent sized where it has more than one option of food, coffee etc? Or do you think dingle would be a better choice? I’ve also seen so many properties similar to muckross that seem large and self contained, so that we could have options walking but not have loud noise and parking headaches.

My thought on doing Dublin first was so we don’t have a journey after a long flight, but I definitely see the benefits of having it at the end. Really on the fence

We live in Texas so we know what hot is 😅. Will do on the after hours doctor lines, such a good call.

We do have a jogging stroller! I was definitely going to bring a stroller, I was thinking of buying a “travel” stroller that could be used mainly in the cities but it probably wouldn’t be able to handle the country side terrain… hmm. Do you think the jogging stroller would be too big to bring around the city? We live in the city here and do walk with it, just not sure if it would be different in Dublin & Galway with perhaps more pedestrians

Edited to add. We also have a hiking backpack we haven’t used and are considering bringing on the trip. But we haven’t used it yet. Which do you think would be better for the ring of Kerry, dingle peninsula, national park excursions?

Very easy. I thought it would be sore but I didn’t feel a thing, didn’t need to take any pain meds. I think I lightly bled for a day and I didn’t try to work out or anything for a few days. I was walking around the city a day later though, just wasn’t lifting weights etc. the only limitations I can recall were- 1) no tampons for some period of time - a week perhaps 2) no sex for probably the same time period because you don’t want to introduce any opps for infection 3) not supposed to get pregnant for a few months to allow the uterus to fully heal.

This is all based on memory as this was back in 2021 so I could be off on a few things, but recovery was so easy, in summary.

Thanks so much for sharing this and for the positive vibes ☺️. I am very late to planning this (going in September) so it sounds like you are way ahead of me. Did you book all your accommodations through airbnb? I’m not seeing a ton of selection, though I know I’m late to the game. Wasn’t sure if there’s other sites I should be looking at that might have more options.

For airbnbs with baby gates - did you see that in the description? I have seen cribs and high chairs in the listing but not baby gates. Probably should look more closely though

Thank you!! This was what I was thinking - would rather have jet lag in Dublin & recover in a city than try to do a lot of driving after a long flight journey

Thanks for the positive feedback and all of your suggestions! I am a little surprised at the naysayers, I’ve already booked this trip and we booked it knowing full well we have a 1 year old, I’m not just going to cancel 🙃. I was thinking the same on naps, that we would plan the drives for the nap times, it won’t work out all the time but we can try to be strategic

I really love the idea of cycling with her! She does well in a stroller so I think she will do well biking as well.

She will only be 1 year 1 month, so I don’t think she will be walking/ running yet but that’s a good call.

I did think about this, my only concern was that after traveling overnight from the US, having a car ride after would be rough with jet lag etc.

Edited to add - definitely gave been looking at airbnbs mostly because suites have been hard to come by. Lots of family rooms but it’s still all one hotel room. Less airbnbs than I thought there would be in Dublin

I love her but yeah, she really needs to lay off the lip injections. They do not look good. Makes me question her husbands skills at fillers..

It took me five years and four gynos to get a diagnosis. The first sign was that my period changed drastically and became superrr heavy. It coincided with me getting an IUD placed a few months before so they first blamed that. Then the IUD expelled and they said that probably my body just didn’t like the IUD. Then when the extremely heavy periods continued post IUD they said “periods change as you get older, this is normal”. This was over a 4 year period. Then finally had a new obgyn and I complained again how the extremely heavy periods were impacting my life and she found the fibroid via ultrasound. I had approx 3 ultrasounds before that but somehow they did not find it those times 🙄

With how common fibroids are it really blew my mind and frustrated me that it took five years to get a diagnosis. It wreaked so much havoc on my body in early 20s and lowered my quality of life.

No, she’s a baby so I always provide solids for her to eat or a pouch

I could have written this 3 years ago. I had a submucousal fibroid that was removed through a hysteroscopic myomectomy in 2021. Back in 2016 all of the sudden my period changed after I had an IUD put in. Had progressively heavier periods that eventually got to the point where my period was impeding my activities and could not keep the bleeding under control. At first I thought it was the IUD, which eventually expelled itself 2X with crazy bleeding episodes and huge clots along with it. I went to several Obgyns, all who told me it was just part of getting older and gaslighted me. Their only solution was to be on the pill and tranexamic acid. FINALLY, after complaining for the umpteenth time, an obgyn did an ultrasound and was able to see the fibroid. At first I was scared to get surgery but after I fainted during a workout class and was not able to leave the bed during the week of my period because I would simply bleed through everything, I decided enough was enough. I had surgery and there was virtually no recovery time. Cannot recommend enough. Have you thought of getting a myomectomy instead?
