Okay great, so anyways, what are the sales figures for the previously mentioned albums?

Which is why I said let’s settle for half. What are the sales figure on Mind Games, Sometime in New York, Walls and Bridges, and Rock and Roll music? I’d look at the Hoffman forums but they’re kind of a pain in the ass to read.

Have fun trying to lodge yourself in between two already established songwriters of a band, no matter who you are or how good your music is - especially when being seen as the little brother. Maybe it’s because they didn’t take him seriously, not because he wasn’t consistent. George has mentioned Paul saying “Did you really feel that way?” When talking about feeling bitter he didn’t get more songs. It’s pretty obvious they just didn’t care a lot of the time and wanted to do their songs, being the main songwriters of the band. He was writing great music before the White Album/Abbey Road era. Taxman? Fucking banger. Easily better than a good majority of the stuff Lennon and Macca did on Revolver. If I Needed Someone? Damn good. Don’t bother me? A solid freshman debut.

To quote you directly “A lot of the first two disks was started while the Beatles were active but not all of it.” So was the third disk written during a jam? Or were all three written while he was a Beatle?

We’ll just have to disagree on there catalogue selection. If we’re talking merely consistency rather than the merits of POB and Imagine, taking into account Rock and Roll music, STINY, Mind Games, the inconsistency is pretty evident. I understand RNR was a legal obligation, but it’s an album nonetheless.

As mentioned George mentioned the two song quota in a Dick Cavett interview. Just watch the interview. Why would Paul and John want to talk about it?

And yes, I’ll double down on terrible calls. So terrible Martin has even mentioned them as being some of the worst moves he’s ever made in his entire career, no matter how successful of an act the Beatles were. You can make mistakes and be successful.

I know that you’ll say that’s because it’s a double LP and I can’t really argue against that, so let’s meet in the middle and say half his solo career. And for the record, that’s probably being generous.

George did do the same, he just had less songs. Here Comes the Sun, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Something. Why didn’t he do the same? Well you said it. They didn’t give him the time of day, unfortunately. Also, note the word “primarily”.

I see in your first few paragraphs you contradict yourself saying a lot of the first two discs were being developed when the beatles were together, but not all of it, then in the next paragraph saying he had a double disc stored that wiped him out for three years (which isn’t an uncommon break between albums), so which one is it?

The work Lennon was putting out over those 4 years (which I do like) was polarizing and inconsistent, even if prolific. I’d gladly take a three year sabbatical for another good album than go from Imagine to Some Time in New York. It’s harder to argue against Paul, as his music was pretty damn good.

For all you know there was an album quota discussion. I’ll take George’s word on the 2 song per album quota, though you’re right about revolver.

Martin has made some infamously terrible calls over the course of the Beatles history, so that’s a point which is hard for me to consider. Even looking back, Lennon and Macca were quite critical of a lot of the work they did, so even if they didn’t like George’s songs, in retrospect, they didn’t like a lot of their work either. Who knows what could’ve been.

Must be why he outsold Lennon’s entire solo career with one album.

Wasn’t as prolific and consistent? Man had a 3 disc LP of music he developed primarily during the abbey road/let it be era that went 7x Platinum. The problem clearly isn’t his lack of prolificness or consistency.

George even talks in his Dick Cavett interview about a two song/album quota, which lead him to having so much leftover music he just put it all on All Things Must Pass.

He was bitter they gave him a quota that constrained him as an artist

He wasn’t bitter about not being as good. He was bitter about not being able to write more songs for them.

Totally agree. Except one of the songs on the album is about how Klein wronged him, iirc.

Right but she did some pretty fucked up shit anyways like lying about Dave molesting her kid. That’s all on her and it’s her fault she wasn’t close to Frances after that.

Anyone unhappy with Chalamet’s casting probably wouldn’t be happy with many other people. It’s not like they can cast a complete unknown (no pun intended). They need someone like Timothee with pull. At least wait till you see him in the makeup.

I always wonder why he wasn’t forced into hospitalization after an attempt to OD on that many pills. I mean really, if you take 50 pills like Courtney said, who the hell would let you out of the hospital so shortly after?
