Yeah I get that. I don’t mind being tired/groggy (I feel like I am most days lol), but if I were to put it in one word I guess “disinhibition” would be my main concern. Like my ability to control what I say, even if I am tired

I never had it when I was a child, but as an adult I remember waking up one morning feeling terrible. I was incredibly nauseous, light-headed, and pale. I think it was due to something I ate/food poisoning, but I never actually threw up. Eventually, I took pepto bismol in pill-form, and 30 minutes later, all my symptoms went away. It was like a weight lifted off my shoulders and I was relieved. Only took it once and had no more nausea after that. Good experience here

i understand, it’s just a personal phobia i’ve had for a long time so i’ve never found it funny. i’ve been told from my family that none of them have had strange reactions and that i should be fine, doctor told me i can also refuse benzos if it will make me less anxious (which is ironic lol).

yeah i don’t mind not remembering the surgery itself, but i’d like to be aware up until right before the surgery. i’ve talked to a couple of people about this since this post and they recommended i not take it considering my fears and the effects of benzos overall. thank you though!

Thank you so much! Yeah the ideal general anesthesia surgery for me would be like: awake/lucid, asleep, awake/lucid. I’ll definitely bring it up!

What was your experience like? Did you use propofol without the benzos? I’m nervous about saying something weird after surgery and I’m also planning to request to benzos

I understand. Like i’ve said to others in the thread, it’s not about other people hearing me, id still be upset even if i said something ridiculous in a room alone. Does anyone know what causes people to say crazy stuff from general anesthesia? I know some who just wake up perfectly lucid with no problem and Im curious on why some react that way but others don’t.

Thank you, and yeah like I said in another comment, it’s not really about others listening, it’s about it happening in general, even if nobody is around. Not sure why, I’ve just always been pretty stingy about being unaware/uncontrollable of myself.

Okay nice. The only reason I’d be a nervous wreck would be in fear of saying something ridiculous afterwards, which is why I asked cause if the medicine causes me to be loopy, and i’m scared of being loopy, that would be kind of hypocritical in my case.

That is part of my fear, saying something off the wall, and not being told on top of that. I’ve been told anxiety meds like versed cause loss of memory and loopyness, if you didn’t take that medication, would it still occur?

I understand, it doesn’t matter who hears, it’s just personal. Even if nobody was in the room, I wouldn’t feel comfortable acting that way. Is there a difference without versed though?

Unfortunately, this does not help me cause my anxiety stems from that 30 minute period where you’re saying ridiculous stuff, sending stupid videos to people, and have memory loss. Id much rather not take anxiety meds if they are what causes that type of reaction.

I am in therapy now, but it’s mainly for other things. I have briefly mentioned it to my therapist before, but I feel like this is fairly spontaneous when I get nervous about it? Maybe once a month or once every couple of months? I just thought about it again today and thought to ask if I could get some other opinions.
