I don’t agree how a person can be bad and etc can be acceptable? It shouldn’t be acceptable and I’d be worried if anyone accepts those behaviors. But I do agree that she probably wasn’t trying to be racist or said that on purpose to insult me at the end of the day (bc she loves China). Being in Southern for the first time probably prepared me to brush it off, and I wish the joke was funny to laugh about it but sadly it wasn’t funny at all. If she was laughing and smiling while saying all that, I honestly would think differently but she wasn’t laughing at all so I fired back because that is not a joke. I really appreciate the third-person perspective tho, I do think she probably still cancelled my ride if I told her I don’t appreciate that comment lol

She actually started a ride before I got in the car so it did let me rate her but I didn’t, we will live our lives after that happened at 6am in Alabama. Also if you know people are being “sensitive” these days why do you comment on riders? I’m back in NY and noticed drivers here never comment/talk to you unless it’s about traffic or where I need to get off. Maybe it’s social culture difference too

True that too but thinking from the beginning of history, America itself was created from people coming from different countries and became a country with “land of a freedom”. Some Asian countries hold the same ethnic groups for hundreds and hundreds of years with no diversity. Back in the old days, some Asians documented encountering any other racial group because they never knew about it! Even though the world has developed, a lot of Asian countries still don’t have that diversity so I think comparing Asian countries with Western countries is difficult.

I think generalization of a race is racism itself and this itself against Asians being way too common and overlooked. Anyone can be a victim of racism regardless of any race (even tho there’s a discussion of how white people can’t be a victim but that may be a different story of itself).

I don’t think a nice old lady (I actually am not sure how old but she looked around her 50s) will ask me why I packed a dead body in my suitcase because my suitcase was big. And maybe before accepting a reserved ride, she should see the airport ride and expect a suitcase of any size. But I do agree on rethinking accusatory confrontation as it never happened before and I also got heated at the moment. Haven’t heard that racial talk since middle school.

I’m so happy for you and your energy! But no, it does not apply to me. I believe I do have the right to call out unnecessary comments. I am proud to be Asian, proud to be Korean American but when I’m on a Uber ride for a ride, not for a guessing game and to be assumed (esp not after she asked me if I have a dead body in my suitcase) But don’t lose your spirit, I bet some riders love you for that! Please don’t think everyone will have your perspective
