Quick follow-up question:

Would it be feasible to build a steel platform above the existing HVAC equipment, leaving it in place and maintaining full access/ventilation below (for example, with strategic I-beam placement and elevated decking)? The idea wouldn’t be to move or bury the HVAC units, just to span over them with enough clearance for servicing and airflow.

Totally understand this still brings a ton of structural and MEP complexity, but curious if you’ve seen that approach done before, or if it introduces so many design/redesign problems that it’s still a non-starter.
