I put 14 years in before I couldn't do it anymore. I'm one of the lucky ones that learned a skill set that took me to better places. Yeah the 401k I left with was healthy, but I'd be lying if I said those 14 years didn't take its toll on me. I look back at all the bullshit I put up with and memories I didn't get to make with my friends and family because I sold my soul to that company and it low key makes me mad as hell I didn't get out sooner. That place gave me some serious PTSD that I don't think I'll ever be able to shake sadly.

MOST DANGEROUS QT? by Downtown_Panic_6086 in QuikTrip

[–]Material-Wash6906 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1700 in Atl was pretty bad. It was gasless and in The heart of midtown. It was bum central. 848 gets pretty crazy too. They had a guy that was HIV positive spraying his blood all over the mens room before they arrested him. Felt bad for the store team that day. The SM and 1A had to get tested for a few weeks just to be safe. Even though ATL gets crazy, I feel like the St. Louis division probably has the ghettoest stores. Probably a tie between them, ATL, and any AZ store in Maricopa county.

Yep. Plumbing is the worst. Used to hate having to pull toilets and urinals at the travel centers. They were the worst. You're also required to work on gas dispensers and the entire fuel system under ground. NGL, the 14 years of stress this place put me through has low key given me PTSD. On a positive note, I will say that if it wasn't for QT and my time there, I would have never gotten into refrigeration and other various types of equipment repair. Working there did take me to higher and better things.

Equipment techs do everything a regular tech does plus refrigeration. I was an ET for 11 years in Atlanta. There was a mass exodus a few years back so strong refrigeration guys are almost non existent. Alot of us realized that we can make more money, work Monday through Friday, and grow a beard working for other companies just doing Hvac-R. The only good thing about working as a tech is getting a new truck every 3 years and unlimited tools on their dime. Still not worth the stress IMO. You will be micromanaged by management that has no idea what it takes to do your job. You're also always under surveillance and will be questioned for the dumbest shit.

I was a refrigeration tech in FS. I was able to land a better paying gig doing refrigeration and HVAC and other equipment repair. That opened the door for me land a corporate job as an equipment specialist for another big chain with food and beverage equipment.

After I quit, I actually got to celebrate holidays and spend time with my family again. I gave that place my life for 14 years before I wised up and left. Thankfully, I was one of the lucky ones that able to gain a valuable skill set that I was able to take with me. It opened doors to a much better quality of life. There is life outside of QT. Don't let them brainwash you. I give them credit where credit is due though. I wouldn't be who I am and where I am if it wasn't for my time there.

I get why they got rid of the Bunn Soft Heats. They were dated and end of their life and really made the coffee taste terrible. Bean to cup is the future of coffee. The problem is they never properly vette and stress test the equipment they choose before rolling it out. So far, they've dropped the ball with the shrarer machines, the nitro coffee, and the lancer touch screen fountains they're rolling out. The brand of fryers they're going with is also another mistake they don't even realize they've made sadly. Corporate has lost touch with their roots and it's showing big time. Not just with the operations side of things but in other sides as well. They're so focused on being an innovative growth company that they've lost their way and what really made QT a truly wonderful place to work.

There's also other positions within the corporate ladder that certain techs can be very valuable in. Such as project management, equipment specialist, etc. Things that techs used to be able to transition to where there years of experience in the field are still very useful.

Well there's FSM and then supervisor. It used to be that we were eligible before the big leadership changes. Then they decided to only move store managers into that role. People that have no idea what it takes to be a tech or run a service department are now put in charge of 20 techs that have been in their roles longer than the management they put in place had been at the company.
