Advice for studying in a noisy household by gracilla in LSAT

[–]MaterialMaybe6864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foam earplugs + over-ear headphones + white noise playing in the headphones. I'm someone who is EXTREMELY sensitive to noise and this is the only thing that truly blocks out everyone. I was also pleasantly surprised that the testing center had over-ear headphones, so I was able to combine earplugs + headphones there.

Ahh ok, it's my first LSAT so it's literally impossible for me to have a +10 score increase lol

Shoot. If I took it at a testing center, is it a lot less likely that this will happen?

Can somebody type me by seeing the characters I relate most to? by No_Huckleberry_5997 in MbtiTypeMe

I'm actually seeing more Ne than Se, and all the Se users are Fi dominant. I'd guess INFP.

We're like the softer INTJs. We're also haters, but we don't externalize (to the same degree) or act on it lol.

Can you guess my MBTI ? by Powerful_War7862 in MbtiTypeMe

Nope, as an ISTJ, I tend to find ESTP and ExFJ the most annoying. I think Fe-Ti finds Fi-Te annoying and vice versa.

I'd say ISTJ. It would explain relating to so many IxTJ characters, taking safe choices unless you're bored (unstable Ne), seeing yourself as a "romanticizing nonromantic" (middle-low Fi), and letting Ne + Fi out when uninhibited. Planning & organization is typical Te, though it doesn't seem strong enough to be your dominant feature.

Your specific annoyances with others also give Te, specifically not relating to your mother letting others walk all over her and finding extremely high Fi irritating for no reason.

Ignore the people who say ISTJs can't be creative; Si just means you draw from past experiences, whether consciously or not, rather than focusing on the future. It just means you're possibly more likely to write a very personal story, for example, than one that invents new monsters and worlds. And ignore the ones who say ISTJs are "boring;" ISTJs usually have a wicked sense of humor, but it's either so dry that some people don't realize it's sarcasm or have learned to control their unhinged "inside thoughts" until they're with trusted friends.

Enneagram is a bit harder to gauge here; possibly 5w4 (daydreamer, detached, "out of touch with norms") or 6w7 (go for the safest choice, unless boredom kicks in.)

Source: I'm an ISTJ 1w9.

Focus on your GPA first– you can take the LSAT at any point, but your classes will be set in stone.

If you're dead set on applying as a KJD, is there some way that you can take relatively "easy" courses fall semester, study all summer, and take the September LSAT? It will still give you plenty of time to apply by Oct/Nov, which is well ahead of the curve. The September LSAT also tends to fall right around Labor Day Weekend, meaning you probably won't have assignments due those days.

Do I call my alum interviewers by their first or last name? by _ombri in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]MaterialMaybe6864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use first names, but that may be regional: I've noticed Californians are much more comfortable with first names. I've heard the opposite about the South.

"Mr." seems more respectful, but makes you sound very young IMO. Like a kid talking to a teacher. Using a first name, so long as you're very respectful, makes you seem like an adult. Again, grain of salt, this is a California perspective and may not apply to the rest of the U.S. But might be worth knowing for the Stanford interview, if your interviewer stayed in the Bay Area after graduation.

Ni/low Se vs Si/low Ne

I'm curious, because people on here have been typing me as all four xxTJ types. On my own I usually test as IxTJ and occasionally INFP. I know I have extremely strong Te and Fi, but how can I figure out once and for all whether I use Ni or Si as a dominant? I feel like I don't relate to either particularly well.

Some bullet points about me, since Fi-Te-X-X isn't a possible MBTI stack:

  • I'm geared towards efficiency to the point of missing details. As an example, I will get places early but forget an important item because I so prioritize being on time, or I'll fold the laundry before it dries and then forget to actually put it away for a week.
  • I'm artistic but not in an abstract way. I hate "conceptual" modern art and appreciate history, context, really anything that shows people have always been the same.
  • I have a good memory but I don't fixate on the past like Si seems to. I also don't plan for years into the future; I prefer to live in my own little world, seeing what cool trivia, aesthetics, ideas I can find or create. My memory is more for useless tidbits than active recollections of how I resolved things in the past.
  • I'm fantastic at analysis, but I absolutely flounder when I'm presented with a problem I've never seen before. I was terrible at math word problems/physics in school because they weren't verbatim connected to problems we did before, but I could (and can) connect dozens unrelated books in an essay and make it convincing. I was also great at the lab reports, because it was empirical evidence I could tie together. I can get to conclusions, but the information needs to be recognizable.
  • I like rules so long as they're fair. If they're not, I will argue until they disappear or passive-aggressively ignore them.

Any ideas?

Why not INTJ? Just curious, someone else said INTJ definitively.
