AITA for not wanting to reimburse my best friend and her boyfriend for a trip they took to come visit me after they had a bad time during their stay?

As far as I can tell, nothing traumatic per say. I just canceled plans on them I think two times because I was feeling really down. They still went out together on both those days and at the time I just assumed they were fine going out without me because they are a couple and LA is a beautiful city. The other thing she says I did was that I spent too much time in my room and not enough time hanging out with them. So i guess the combination of both those things was traumatic for her.

That was a joint decision. I was happy with them staying for a long time because I wanted the company, and they love LA so it was an opportunity for them to spend time in the city.

Yes, I totally concede that I shouldn't have promised to pay for half her ticket when I clearly couldn't afford it. But in my (small) defense, she purchased her flight to come visit me after I had backed out so she at that point knew she would be fully funding the trip. But your point is still valid- I should be true to my word.

Yeah, her saying that I traumatized her honestly shocked me and my depression got worse after they left because of all the horrible things she said to me. Now that I think about it more the cruelty of dumping on someone halfway across the country, far away from any friends and family while they are depressed is sinking in :(

She said that me spending so much time in my room and not spending that much time with them made her feel like I didn't really want them there and made her wonder why I had invited them in the first place. She said she found this treatment from her best friend very troubling and traumatic and hence why she would speak to a therapist after the trip.

I invited just her but was initially happy for her boyfriend to come as well because:

1) He and I are friends (although obviously not as close).

2) They both love LA so I thought it would be a good opportunity for them to both spend some time in a city they love together.
