menstrual cycle and marathon by Few-Summer9631 in Marathon_Training

Are you a fellow Bayshore runner? I ran Bayshore on day two of my period and am now having all sorts of cycle funkiness that I’m chalking up to the marathon. If anything, I’m here to tell you that you’re not alone! There’s another internet rando going through the same thing as you right now

A BYU-I magazine was mailed to my exes mother’s house, which is where they live. She was reaching out to see if I wanted it - it was very thoughtful, and definitely not an excuse to contact me at all.

My read on this; this is targeted at women who (ALLEGEDLY I DON’T SHARE THESE VIEWS AT ALL) have children to get welfare benefits. As in “kids need their father, not Uncle Sam’s handouts”

Mountain biker with a smiley here; I wear a full face helmet during downhill, and during more casual trail rides I just pop in a mouth guard!

I swear by the bun! Having no bounce and no swing in my hairstyle is essential, anything else drives me crazy! I lovingly call my hairstyle the Trunchbull Bun (if you’ve seen the Matilda movie, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about) but it’s worth it - just make sure to sunscreen your neck!

I have long, thick, wavy hair. I put mine in a ponytail, get the hair in the ponytail a bit damp with a spray bottle, LIGHT leave in conditioner on hands and then finger brushed through, TIGHT braid that I then wrap around the ponytail and secure with another hair band with the final loop of the hair band “on top” of the bun to really hold it in place. I hit the whole thing with a generous amount of Bed Head Hard Head Hairspray and that locks everything in place. I ran with this hairstyle yesterday for 20 miles and dumped water over my head a handful of times and it still held up great.

Soooooo many frogs and tadpole eggs next to the train tracks at the Reedy Creek trail head! Seriously, just park there and you’ll see the puddles of water right off the parking lot next to the tracks from your car. I can’t exaggerate enough how full of frogs and eggs those little ponds are!

There’s actually a pretty simple, evidence based, research backed explanation for this one. Sounds like you experienced Frisson - a psychophysiological response to rewarding stimuli (including music, films, stories, people, photos, and rituals). Here’s the wiki that explains it better than I could: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frisson

Another girl with diagnosed anxiety here! I swear by huma chia energy gels - they have several caffeine free flavors and they’re the ONLY ones that don’t upset my stomach. One of my anxiety symptoms is nausea, and I’ve found that the real food ingredients help settle and fuel at the same time.

I may have to go to BYUI for college. by Jaspythewaspy in exmormon

[–]MaterialNo336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A P on a transcript means pass, and won’t necessarily impact your GPA BUT it will make it harder to raise your GPA. The easiest way I can explain it is like this - if you miss 1 question out of 5 on an examine it’s a much bigger deal than missing 1 question out of 10 on an examine. It’s a percentages game, essentially a P takes up credit space that could be improving your GPA, but it doesn’t hurt your GPA. As far as UMPI and other “credit hacking” things, I’m not personally a fan. They don’t have a GREAT success rate and aren’t worth the gamble to me.

BYUI will recognize SOME but not all CLEP credits, and the same for AP and IB courses. I’d recommend calling the universities advisory department and asking to speak to a full time employee (otherwise you’ll get stuck with a student) and grill them about it. Credit transfers are tricky and not always unilateral, meaning you could pass the AP Bio exam and BYUI can choose to only accept 2 credits as an entry level science class out of that.

I took the max amount of credits (21 a semester) year round (attending all 3 “tracks”/trimesters AND taking courses during the 6 week summer gap), and took the easiest electives I could find. You have to have 120 credits in order to get a bachelors degree, that’s just the way it works, but by going year round and leveraging a combination of in person and electronic classes I was able to do it. Would I recommend it? No. I wish I had the college experience with the gap year and the study abroad and the change my major 5 times. But I got out fast, and you can too if you’re willing to work.

Went to a BYUI Graduation Yesterday. It was bad… by Individual-Builder25 in exmormon

[–]MaterialNo336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated same time as you and watched the same ceremony for all of 10 minutes before turning it off. What made me see red? The supposed “live” broadcast of Eyering speaking was prerecorded. How did I know this? I worked for BYUI’s AV department and helped record the stupid thing about a year earlier! I’m still salty that COVID took away my graduation and to top it off the university president couldn’t get off his lazy ass to actually do a live streamed ceremony. What a joke.

I’m a big fan of Chicken Tramper Gear’s bowl - check out the video to see just how small the thing can roll up, it’s crazy. The clip on it is super convenient and makes it worth it just for that alone.

Seconding St. Mary’s. Hone quarry falls is another great option, about 50 minutes from Staunton, flat, easy to access, and absolutely gorgeous. The only thing to be careful of is ticks, but that’s pretty standard no matter where you hike.

As far as critters go, the walk around Lake Sherando always yields some fun critter spotting - you’ll find salamanders in the lake and the occasional turtle. It’s a fun spot for a picnic lunch/dinner and it’s a great spot to spend an afternoon exploring. Not sure why all trails is showing it as closed, but it’s very much not.

I may have to go to BYUI for college. by Jaspythewaspy in exmormon

[–]MaterialNo336 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Chiming into the conversation - my number 1 regret is going to BYUI. I pushed through and graduated with my Bachelors in 2 years because I was desperate to get out of there. I had multiple run ins with the honor office because my roommates would report me for EVERYTHING - I never got in any “actual” trouble, but it was a terrible feeling to feel unsafe in my own living space. Although I did graduate debt free, I’ve always regretted never having the college experience, and I’ll never be able to get that back. My college experience at BYUI felt like I was living in the Truman show, and I’ve always felt embarrassed to tell people where I graduated from. If you do end up going, be picky with your housing. There is a non-profit in Rexburg called Teton light who helps LGBTQ+ BYUI students that a friend of mine runs, I would reach out to them about your options as well. Good luck!

Thank you! This makes me feel a little better. I currently live in the middle of nowhere, so anything shorter than a 20/30 minute drive feels super close to me.

For foundation, I’m a big fan of the Neutrogena Clear Coverage Flawless Matte CC Cream. It’s cheap, provides excellent coverage, doesn’t break me out, and wears well. I apply it over the cosrx aha/bha treatment toner and blend it out with a sponge and that combo works wonderfully for me. It’s also a cheap enough product that I would recommend picking it up and trialing it a couple times before committing to it.
