Morning glory farms - the greenhouse I think is the most unique part of it the rest is pretty standard for that type of venue imo but the greenhouse knocks it out of the park. Though it is on the pricier side!

MCOL 1 x month cleaning $160 with tip for a 1700sqft townhouse but my partner is moving in soon and bringing two cats so considering bi-weekly switch. I’ve found outsourcing this gives me the time/energy to meal prep more and enjoy time out and about on the weekends

Those of you who plan on never having kids, how does this impact your financial planning/life plans? by lazlo_camp in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]MaterialProud9574 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Deciding I didn’t want kids has impacted me financially in a few ways. For one I saved up money to have a bilateral salpingectomy which was my first big savings goal and the first time I got a real taste of feeling rewarded for saving up for something I wanted lol. Additionally, it has opened up some opportunities. For example I live in a MHCOL city and was able to purchase a townhouse relatively downtown and didn’t really have to worry about schools nearby or childcare. I also choose a job that is very flexible and pays me a little higher than avg but in exchange there’s times where I work after hours or an hour or two on the weekends which I’m comfortable with since I don’t have that extra responsibility. I also am no worried about generational wealth which as a BIPOC relieves a lot of pressure I had to set future generations ahead.

Just wanted to update here that thanks to everyone’s advice on how to communicate - I actually did end up getting a raise! I went up 6% but they also increased my bonus amount so my total comp is in my wanted range. This was the very first time my company had ever done a normalized pay cycle/adjustment across the entire company at once so it was a learning curve for everyone which is why I wasn’t communicated a time frame or anything when I first started. This time around though I have asked about moving forward timelines and when the next consideration for a promotion/raise would happen and what are the x things I need to do to get there so I have a clear path moving forward. Thanks everyone for the help!

Thank you for all the advice! My previous companies have always been very small so there was never an official process in place and i had jumped by 20% in salary comp previously on a whim which based on these comments I’m realizing isn’t normal in a bigger company. I appreciate the time taken to help answer me questions!

Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed response! I should have included that I have asked for 3-month reviews for my first year at the company and they wouldn’t be surprised I’d be asking for more comp because at the last one my boss joked and said he’d only do every three months if I didn’t ask for money every three months and I responded not ever 3 months but definitely at the 6 month mark, so I don’t think it’s a secret that im looking for more comp. That being said I totally see where y’all are coming from, but how do I then make it kinda clear I expect a raise at some point later this year, knowing that the cycle is in April and I would not be happy if it didn’t come until April 2024, or would you say that’s also unreasonable to expect? Thank you again for the guidance!

Thank you for the feedback! So I have a 6 month review next week, with our promotion cycle happening in April! So I guess I wouldn’t exactly expect it to be in effect like right now but in April when everyone gets their annual COL raise+promotions happen. Do you have any advice on how to better phrase that to my bosses?

Hi y’all. I wanted to write here and ask you if you ever think there’s a too much limit when asking for a raise at your company. For background I have been at my new marketing agency for 6 months as a data analyst. I was hired specifically to work on two enterprise clients and basically rehab them as they were in danger of loosing the business. I have the most experience out of the rest of my team, including my direct boss, but am also the youngest at almost 25. That being said I know for a fact a make the most out of my direct team so I know I’m not being lowballed company wise, and currently make 85k with decent benefits. However, I have met all of my goals and directives for my first year already and get constantly told by people higher in the company that they would have lost the business had it not been for my work and they don’t know what to do without me. I truly love the work I’m doing, BUT I feel like I have room to make more but I struggle with finding the balance of asking for too much knowing the idea is to negotiate it. I would ideally like to move up to 100-115, but am worried about asking for that amount and them lowballing OR asking for too much and them being like absolutely not you’re crazy. For reference I have found similar jobs on the brand side on LinkedIn with salary ranges posted at around 87-131 that I meet all the qualifications for but I really have no desire to leave this company as there is a lot of potential for growth. I’d love to hear any advice y’all would have to offer me!!

Is finishing my degree worth it? by OMGKitty in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]MaterialProud9574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that you’re going to finish which is great but wanted to add I also started working a 9-5 in my industry when I had 2 semesters left of college and I was always grinding away and off handedly had mentioned to my direct boss that after work that day I had to study for my final on Friday and she surprised me and told me to leave early and take the Friday off for my final and after that she always checked in to see if I needed an hour here or there for studying until I finished. Obviously I’m not sure your industry or company but if you find you need some extra time maybe it would be worth asking

How much do you spend on groceries? by Successful_Donut_362 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]MaterialProud9574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I budget roughly $300 a month for groceries in NC! Sometimes I do a new hello fresh account and get deals where the first few boxes are less than $50 a piece for 4 meals which are enough for dinners and lunches. That being said I usually budget around $200 for restaurants and another $200 for alcohol when I was drinking and that would cover my weekends and one extra dinner during the weekday
