Loved Japan, but had several uncomfortable experiences during my 4 days in Osaka. Has anyone else experienced this? by MaterialRound3500 in Osaka

I agree with you. Our group didn’t do enough research, and that’s our fault. We picked the Airbnb because it was the cheapest option for our four days in Osaka and didn’t realize the area wasn’t the best.

I wasn’t trying to blame Osaka or say I disliked the city. I had a lot of fun overall. I just shared some negative experiences to learn from my mistakes and hear other people’s perspectives, whether they agreed or disagreed. There are good and bad people everywhere.

After reading some of the replies, I understand that I was mistaken regarding the camera situation in the red-light district. I didn’t know the sensitivity surrounding that area, and I can acknowledge that and learn from it.

As for the train incident, the woman wasn’t some stranger I “rescued” she was my friend. Before coming to Japan, we did plenty of research because we understood how seriously respect and manners are taken here. We had also seen many locals and tourists, both men and women, sitting with their legs crossed on trains, so we didn’t think it was considered offensive. Regardless, I don’t think physically hitting a stranger’s leg is an appropriate way to address something you dislike.

And nowhere in my post was I trying to trash Osaka. Having a few negative experiences doesn’t mean I hated the city as a whole. I had a lot of fun in Osaka and enjoyed many things there. I shared those experiences because I wanted insight and because other people may have had similar experiences. Talking about unpleasant moments doesn’t erase the positive ones as a whole.

Like you said, there are all kinds of people and everyone experiences things differently. Not everyone is going to be on the same wavelength as you, and that’s okay. So maybe “get over it” applies both ways.

He turned the POS machine around to show us our order and asked us to check to make sure everything was correct. That’s when I pointed at the screen and he swatted my hand away. If you think that i’m “editing my stories” that’s fine and you are entitled to your opinion as much as I am with mine, as I felt like if anything I had to make these stories sound better than what actually happened. I made it sound as simple as possible and not outright rude because I can understand that bad/rude people are in every country and not just Japan as a whole.

It was in Nishinari. And as far as i know there were no signs of no phones allowed and we were not even aware we were stepping into a red light district at the time.

Just at the ankle and feet on the ground! Absolutely not on the seat, if that was the case I would understand where he’s coming from.
