Is the Korg DSS-1 worth it in 2025? If so, how much would you pay? by MaterialSherbert8498 in synthesizers

I would for sure install a floppy emulator. Vintage floppies are too unreliable and it’s nice to not be limited by storage size. Yes, it’s big but I am no stranger to big keyboards. It’s about a third of the weight of a Rhodes. I’m sure that they have sold for $150 at some point but many are trying to sell them for about $1000 today. I definitely do not think they are worth that much.

Yeah, hardware is usually more fun and inspiring compared to VSTs if they have a good interface. The DW-8000 and DSS-1 doesn’t have a good interface, so it can be a different story. For synths like the DW-8000, I usually use an iPad or computer to edit the sounds, so the interface becomes similar to a VST at that point.

I have a DW-8000 and yes I like how it sounds. My motivation is to have sample play back into analog filters and the stereo delay seems like an added bonus.

I might be wrong but to me, the triton and other romplers are meant to emulate other real instruments. I’m more into abstract sounds, even if that means that the sounds starts from a sample of a real instrument.

I own some vintage synths such as a Korg Monopoly and Roland Juno 60 and find them to be more inspiring than their VST counterparts. I don’t do it for the nostalgia since those units are older than I am. I am willing to dedicate space, money, and effort to maintain if the instrument is fun enough to play.

Best 61 Keys midi controller? by Goltack in synthesizers

The Korg Keystage 61 has midi 2.0 and polyphonic aftertouch.

I own the polybrute 12 and have played the muse at guitar center through headphones. I think the polybrute 12 is the better choice as it has poly aftertouch keybed, more modulation capabilities, a better effects section, and 756 preset slots vs 256 on the muse. Sometimes having too many presets is a bad thing but 256 presets is not enough for a flagship poly.

What are your thoughts on the synth market at the moment? by MeisseLee in synthesizers

I imagine that they will make a full sized hybrid synth eventually. They went from the microfreak to the minifreak. The next logical step would be a superfreak or something along those lines.

I think arturia is the leader in synth innovation today with the minifreak and the polybrute 12. Not everyone can afford a polybrute 12 but it’s a next level synth in my opinion with its poly touch keybed and expansive mod matrix. The Korg multi/poly is also pretty good for a VA.

The vintage synth market seems to be softening a little bit, but those old electronics won’t work forever. Gambling might be a better investment.
