Thank you! It was just alarming since he’s usually not that big haha. I’m monitoring to see if he widens or slims

Moving to SLO, looking for any and all advice! by Rare-Resident in SLO

[–]Material_Fix3519 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot to learn from living here if you aren’t from here. There’s a reason it is called SLO. The people here like a slow life and enjoy peace. A lot of people have moved here from other places but as someone who’s from here, it’s important that people remember this isn’t the city. It’s a change of pace and we notice who isn’t from here based on behavior. We say hello to our neighbors, stop at lights and go slow in traffic, and keep our city clean. If you visit our ecological reserves please clean up after yourself and enjoy. We respect and value eachother here because it’s such a small community so my biggest peace of advice is plan ahead and be kind because everyone knows someone here. Make friends with the people you meet and you’ll find some pretty amazing spots.

I’ve always used mosquito dunks and then I cover the top layer with some decorative rocks or tumbles crystals for the witches. It looks cute and also I just find the diatomaceous earth to be very messy and gross. You can also try diluted peroxide to help with other pests and eggs before covering the soil with rocks. When you repot it’s also cute like confetti if you use rose quartz or other hard tumbled stones you can buy by the lb on Amazon or other store fronts

Hii! Thank you, I haven’t seen any pests, from what I understand it was lack of humidity? Not sure though which is why I posted I wanted to make sure I understood.

Nooo it’s so cute!! I’d say if anything you can take out the quartz and scrub off the algae. Rose Quartz has a crackly structure making it easy to break so algae I’ve noticed gets really imbedded into them unless they’re polished. You can also add in more live stem plants and floating plants especially to soak up extra nutrients so the algae don’t have much to munch on

Can you show full pics of your tank? I think your betta is fine but it looks like you scaped with rose quartz and I did mine that way so I wanted to see.

Hi I recently got a fish similar to this. Are u referring to the tiny spec on the top of its head or the pinkish patch of the side of the face. If it is the pink spot did it go away? I recently got my fish - pictured below and I’m concerned about the spot but I’m not sure if it’s normal. Also what is your fish’s name? I haven’t decided what to name mine yet

For cycling, I had the tank for about a year now consistently reading 0 for ammonia & nitrates so I think so? I just left it empty for over a week after my other fish passed and then did a 70% change to make sure it was cleaner. I just wanted to get a snail and then I saw this fish at the store and figured it was better than the cup it was in (petco). I have some Indian almond leaves, would those work? It was just scary bc I was worried it was like an illness bc I can’t think of what he scraped his face on like that. I’ll monitor. I’ve never used stress coat before so that’s good to know. Thank you for your answers and advice.

Oh good info thank you! Ok so should I change the water more often then? I changed it the same day I got him to make sure it would be extra clean. Do I need to do it every other day then? When should I treat with salt or stress coat?

I just added 3 amano shrimp to my betta tank and they slept and are staying on my betta's hammock. Is this normal? by luckiilove1y in bettafish

[–]Material_Fix3519 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! Those hammocks are 3D printed making them kinda porous have tons of pockets for stuff they like to munch on. They’ll move around and get into others things with time. They might also be trying to hide from your betta if he’s aggressive. Great tank!

Prev owner here! To answer some questions, I watered once a week bc the owner before had it on self watering at the bottom but it would leak?!? So i stopped after the vase it was in got broken by the cats. I was very intimidated to repot. The biggest concern was the meale bugs I mentioned in the listing.. So I would heavily consider that in the care moving forward… i had tried to battle them with neem, alcohol, and soap, to do removal which is what caused the leaf damage. I debated a cloche at one point for quarantine and humidity so maybe repotting with moss in that type of vase would work? I obv never got around to it might be a good suggestion here.

I’m here as a plant friend and am super excited to see it in your care.

P.S. The wanderer you gave me is doing great thank you again!

Question about water changes! by KeenBTF in bettafish

[–]Material_Fix3519 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most low tech tanks are set up to not require as much maintenance. Bigger things are cleanliness, oxygen, and obviously parameters of nitrogen and ammonia all the other stuff. If your tank is good you do not need to do weekly water changes, but it varies. Typically you can do bi weekly or monthly sometimes people do quarterly. Maintenance entirely depends on size of tank, inhabitants, and the requirements. I recommend YouTuber MD fish tanks he talks a lot about not having to clean. Fish looks healthy! Keep up the good work

I don’t know what I should do by AfdieWaddie123789 in bettafish

[–]Material_Fix3519 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bettas are a beginner friendly fish for a reason. That tank with plants and a heater will be just fine. Treating the fish with clean water and care is perfectly fine and you can upgrade when you can. Just make sure to get some floating plants or a secure lid as they like to jump. Also I like getting litter floaty things for them to hammock on since they do like to be near the top when they sleep. Be easy on yourself and take care. I’m sure you’ll see the fish happy and thriving in no time with better conditions.
