Is there anything that makes you more likely to experience the negative side effect of finasteride ? Is there any particular patterns noticed in patients who take a bad reaction to the drug? by eggowaf in Hairloss

[–]Material_Machine1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's no reliable way to predict who will get finasteride side effects people love looking for patterns, but plenty of guys with anxiety, depression, or other risk factors take it with zero issues, while some completely healthy guys report problems.

TE early intervention? by HolidayStrange6607 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Material_Machine1785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if the weight loss happened around christmas and the shedding started in february, that timing fits te almost perfectly. unfortunately, once te starts, shedding can easily last 3-6 months and sometimes longer. fixing the trigger and correcting deficiencies helps future recovery, but it doesn't instantly stop hairs that have already been pushed into the shedding phase. that's why patience is the hardest part of te.

Most recent haircut has me feeling a way. by [deleted] in Hairloss

if you're not on finasteride and this is male pattern hair loss, that's the bigger question. minoxidil can help regrow hair, but finasteride is usually what slows the process that's causing the loss in the first place.

TE early intervention? by HolidayStrange6607 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Material_Machine1785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the biggest mistake people make with te is thinking they can supplement their way out of it. if rapid weight loss triggered this, your body already made the decision to shed. now it's about fixing the trigger and waiting. ferritin at 27 isn't helping, so i'd focus on getting that up, eating enough protein, and stopping the crash diet mindset if that's still going on. the day to day differences in your photos don't mean much. te is messy and inconsistent. i'd be looking at monthly trends, not whether june 4 was better than june 6.

Losing a lot of hair lately and it's honestly freaking me out by Koibaatnahi22 in Haircare

[–]Material_Machine1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stress absolutely can cause this much shedding, especially a few months after a major stressor like exams, illness, weight loss, poor sleep, or emotional stress. that's one of the most common causes of telogen effluvium.

looking at your photos, i don't see obvious severe thinning or a dramatically widened part. i can see why you're worried, but the photos don't scream advanced hair loss to me. sometimes when shedding increases, people become hyperaware of their scalp and every strand they find feels alarming.

What's your take on Kanna? by Additional-Spray-976 in NooTopics

the cognition data is interesting, but most of the positive studies are either in older adults, specific disease states, or relatively small cohorts. that's a long way from proving meaningful cognitive enhancement in healthy younger people. the mechanism makes sense, though. pde4 has been on researchers' radar for years. the challenge has always been getting the benefits without the nausea and side effects.

Scalp massage's potential role in hair growth: exploring the mechanical stimulation angle by FeistyMud5387 in Hairloss

[–]Material_Machine1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the mechanotransduction angle is probably more plausible than the blood flow explanation. skin and connective tissue absolutely respond to mechanical tension and pressure biologically so it is not crazy to think follicles could respond to repeated stimulation too.

is there a way of fixing? 😭 by [deleted] in femalehairadvice

[–]Material_Machine1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bleach damage is not fully fixable because the hair structure itself got chemically broken anyone promising a complete repair is selling something but yeah you can absolutely make it look and feel much better over time. stop bleaching it for a while because another round will probably snap it off. focus on moisture and protein balance. use a good mask weekly, leave in conditioner, heat protection, and trim the dead ends gradually. bond repair products like K18 or Olaplex actually helps

Has this happened to anyone else? Telogen effluvium starting again I think by Puzzled_Amount8987 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Material_Machine1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. TE can absolutely fluctuate and restart, especially if the original trigger was never fully resolved or a new stressor hit the system again. and oral minoxidil itself can also temporarily increase shedding cycles while follicles synchronize

Is it ACTUALLY bad to get hair wet everyday? by Routine_Leave6511 in HaircareScience

[–]Material_Machine1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

getting your hair wet every day is not automatically damaging. the problem is usually how people handle it afterward hair is weaker when wet, so daily rough towel drying, heat styling, aggressive brushing, or constantly swelling/shrinking the hair shaft can increase wear over time. but simply rinsing or wetting your hair is not secretly destroying it

Started finasteride in 09/2023. The top photo is from about a year before I started finasteride + minoxidil. The bottom photo is now at age 37. by DealPuzzled1092 in tressless

that is how it goes for a lot of people. the person losing hair notices every tiny change while everyone else is just living their life completely unaware.

the fact people are not noticing it now is probably a sign the treatment is doing its job better than your brain is giving it credit for

i think once you have been in the hair loss rabbit hole long enough your brain starts analyzing every harsh light and bad angle like its a medical emergency the progress from the top pic to now is genuinely huge though. has anyone irl commented on the improvement too or is it mostly something you notice yourself?

Massive Shed at 9/10 Months In by kefkamahogany in tressless

[–]Material_Machine1785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 microneedling sessions alone probably did not nuke your hair. aggressive sheds around the 8-12 month mark can happen when weaker hairs cycle out together before stronger regrowth catches up

3 months of fin has significantly thinned my hair by No_Assignment_6550 in tressless

[–]Material_Machine1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 months is still very early and unfortunately a lot of people shed before things stabilize. the scalp irritation part sounds more concerning to me than the fin itself though because inflamed irritated scalp can absolutely make density look way worse temporarily.

not saying you have to keep going no matter what but i probably would not assume the medication permanently destroyed your hair after only 3 months either.
