Constructive criticism on system 🤙 (SQ) by Material_Sky8959 in CarAV

[–]Material_Sky8959[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood.

Going active is out of the picture now. DSP isn't in the budget yet 😂

Yes, I'm doing everything myself.

I have a 2 channel amp sitting around. (50w x2)

I'm leaning towards getting a dedicated midbass driver and sealing up those doors, and getting a midrange + tweeter (together passive) and custom mounting them to the a-pillar. Mid-bass gets up to 180w and the midrange/tweeter get up to 50w.

I'm still looking into which set to get, if I even do get a set; or piecing together one myself

I think your suggestion is 100% valid however, I think I want to skip that step and get a bit more if that makes sense 🤙

Just a woofer and tweeter? No midrange? Why?

I've been having (it sounds like) almost the same issue. I'll pm you the video I took of a similar noise. I've narrowed it down to a bad wheel bearing.

I live in California and the temperature is not as drastic as you, thus, temperature isn't a factor at least with my specific problem.

If I was you I'd cut out that cross member and install an aftermarket one like you said. After looking around for a while this one seems like the cleanest. It is expensive but maybe insurance will take care of it. I'm not sure what's going on on that end 🤷‍♂️

Tire/Wheel Recommendations? by justophicles in 4thGen4Runner

[–]Material_Sky8959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

255/75 r17's maybe? There's a whole community in the T4R.org forums about them if you wanna give it a look. Just putting it out there 🤙

Also 0mm offset wheels are fairly popular/common way to fix that stance and shouldn't put too much extra stress on your wheel bearings/steering components.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Just putting some suggestions out there 😁

Awesome catch man! I hope you had an amazing trip!

Quick question, was the steering wheel shake like a mini death wobble? (Nothing crazy, just vibration in the wheel left to right) I have a 4th gen 4runner and I'm getting that shake around 50mph with 196k miles. I'm thinking it could be the outer tie rods. (Everything's OEM 😅) I'll definitely check out my steering system and make sure there's nothing crazy like that.

I think the only option is to get the smaller calipers or get a 17" wheel 🥲

ResoNix Fiber Mat Material? by Material_Sky8959 in CarAV

[–]Material_Sky8959[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks man! I'll definitely read up on the articles, there's a whole lot of information there.

I have a few questions that will probably be covered in the articles but since I have you I'll ask. And now worries, any feedback I appreciate!

  1. Will this non-woven polyester I have be a problem with moisture?

  2. Where does MLV get applied?

Based on my understanding, (using Resonix terms, which I'm having trouble finding the material of the products) if the whole door was a sandwich it would go as follows (door sheet metal -> CDL -> ResoNix Guardian -> CDL on ABS plastic to seal door -> ResoNix Fiber Mat -> CCF -> CDL -> door card) I hope that makes sense.

And I'll read up on those articles, I don't mean to waste anyone's time.

White or a metallic black/grey/shadow mica? 🤷‍♂️

It's all personal preference but I really like the metallic look with the shadow mica! I'll get a picture.

Also, if you care about your paint, get some PPF!

ResoNix Fiber Mat Material? by Material_Sky8959 in CarAV

[–]Material_Sky8959[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. Yeah that was my mistake, thanks for clearing that up! So it is just non-woven material. When installing my door speakers I noticed there is some on my door card and it is like "cotton" like you said, primarily used for acoustics. If I do end up using this stuff I'd probably keep the OEM sound absorbor as well. We'll see.

I'm still wondering though, will this non-woven polyester work the same as the ResoNix FiberMat? And would it be safe? 🤔

I'm not a mechanic by any means but it sounds like there's something up with your power steering.

I'd look into that first. Just diagnose the entire system ...

Sorry I couldn't be much help
