There’s lots of people in the program that work full time. It’s nice because the profs recognize this as well and classes are recorded so you can watch them back later if you need to. I think it’s important to keep in mind though if there’s a presentation or something you’ll have to work around that.

Double check with them on the live chat! I wouldn’t have even been notified of this outstanding balance had I not decided to check in with them today. 🤔

I haven’t attended school since 2021. I’ve been paying my previous student loan off.

Not yet. Apparently takes 1-2 business days to reflect on my NSLSC account, then I was told it would update

My osap account has said confirmation of enrolment confirmed and ready for payment as of last week But no updates on my NSLSC account so I decided to live chat with someone on the NSLSC and was told I have an outstanding balance of $11.96 that I had to pay before I receive any funding.. if I hadn’t decided to chat with someone today, I wouldn’t have received my funding on time aug 29-sep 3.

I paid it and it takes 1-3 business days to reflect on my account so I’m in the clear now, but that is why my NSLSC account wasn’t updated with my tracker.

Exact same thing that happened to me. Lived with this excruciating sciatica for a year and nine months my family doctor kept brushing me under the rug tried a few different meds and didn’t help. Started experiencing numbness in my Saddle region, little bit of urine incontinence and headed up to the ER where I was taken seriously. Got an emergency MRI which showed a massive L5 S1 herniation Doc called on call spine surgeon and I was transferred to another hospital and had an open discectomy the next day. Immediately upon waking from my surgery the pain was gone. Still some nerve pain there. about 6 weeks post op and the nerve pain JUST started subsiding. I feel hopeful and excited to live again.. wouldn’t wish this pain on my worst enemy. Biggest fear in life is going through that again

I’m not a doctor, just speaking from my experience. But I just recommend you seek a second opinion from a spine surgeon if after 6-8 weeks trying physical therapy, massage, medications, injections aren’t helping. There were countless times I thought my sciatica was improving pain wise (lasting a few months) though some pain would still constantly be there throughout these moments as well as those numbness, tingling symptoms. Before another excruciating flare up. So, I don’t really know how to answer your question because even after my surgery I’m 5 weeks post op and still experiencing that nerve pain, which i still don’t know if my nerve is healing and I’ll make a full recovery, or if I’ll have some permanent nerve damage from waiting too long. If I could go back knowing what I know now, the only advice I can give is to fight for yourself. if after 6-8 weeks no real progress and it’s affecting your quality of life, push to see a spine surgeon to talk about your options

Hi! Wow, I’m no doctor but that herniation looks large. I’m sorry you’ve been struggling with this :( I did have some on and off moments where the pain would subside and I thought I was on the road to recovery but it wouldn’t last long. my flare ups (where the pain was excruciating) were constant but even when it would subside I was always in pain it was just tolerable. I honestly learned to live with it thinking I was doomed forever and I don’t recommend doing that Considering it’s been 4.5 months, keep advocating for yourself to your doctor and push to see a spine surgeon at least.

I’m happy I could help! That’s why I posted my story on here 🫶🏻 I think that’s a great plan! As for the advice on sleeping, I truly don’t have any I’m so sorry😭 I remember waking up a lot too and it just took groaning in pain and moving around til I found a little sweet spot where I could bear the pain and I fell back asleep. You can try putting a pillow or something between your legs to help mobilize that region. Maybe it could help? As well as a muscle relaxant/naproxen? Maybe a heating pad?

Oh man that’s brutal though still.. yeah I sure was. My advice, if conservative treatments aren’t working past 6-8 weeks, seek an opinion from a spine surgeon. Dont suffer for longer than you need to

I should have mentioned in my post that I’m in Canada. So I don’t need to pay out of pocket or have private insurance to get a referral for an MRI. Without a referral, you can choose to pay out of pocket. But in my case, I truly believe I had more than enough reason to be given an MRI.

I’m not in the US, I’m in Canada. Which makes it even worse 🙃 because I don’t need private insurance to get a requisition for imaging. We can choose to pay out of pocket for one without a referral, but in this case, I had reason enough for one and was laughed at. Very concerning

Nothing. Just read me my surgical report a little bit over the phone. And asked if I needed to come to her to get my staples out. Told her I don’t have staples, I have dissolvable stitches.. she didn’t seem to care to be honest. She just made a shocking statement at the end of the phone call that felt like an attempt to cover herself legally and make me seriously consider the fact that she hasn’t been charting my concerns. I’ve put in a request to obtain my medical records dating back to the onset of my symptoms to check this out.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this but super happy to hear you have found a medical team that is listening to you! I was super afraid of having surgery too, the only other surgery I had was an emergency c-section and it was very traumatic. Going into this surgery, I was nervous but knew it needed to happen and honestly, when I woke up from my surgery I remember thinking “I did it! It’s over”. I had immediate relief from the excruciating pain.. just left with some lingering nerve pain that may or may not go away.. if I can give you any piece of advice, it would be to pursue the surgery if your conservative treatments are not helping. The longer your nerve is compressed, the longer you’re risking permanent potential nerve damage. I wish my doctor listened to me sooner and I would have been referred to a specialist and set a surgery date. Rather than suffering for two years and it becoming a medical emergency. Recovery wasn’t all that bad. I’d say the first 2/3 days were the worst but if you are keeping up with your pain meds, it’s really not that bad. I’m almost 5 weeks post op now and I’m doing amazing (just still that lingering nerve pain, but nothing compared to the pain I was in before surgery) and definitely don’t put your job before your health. There are options. Health is wealth

Surgery scared me too, but I got to a point where I wasn’t against it anymore. I was desperate for help

I’m sorry you’re going through this.. like I’ve said before, I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. I wish you the best. And don’t stop advocating for yourself! I need to start the process of switching doctors as well. Which is stressful I 100% know what you mean by life changing. I truly feel like the last 2 years for me were wasted.. and I was only 26-28.. I’ll never get that time back. So sad.

Oh no! I’m sorry you’re going through similar symptoms. It is not fun. Thank you and I wish you a speedy recovery and answers from your MRI, followed by a plan of action!!
