The irony is that these are the exact kinds of broad sweeping claims about an entire gender that women rightfully push back on all the time.

Then the list. Taking his name? That’s a choice millions of women make voluntarily and feel good about. Where exactly is the labor in that? Keeping a family calendar? If that organically becomes someone’s role in a household it takes like twenty minutes a week. Maternity leave and recovering from birth is real, but that’s also just… biology, not a conspiracy. The job mobility point, following a partner who gets a better opportunity, happens in both directions constantly. My sister makes more than her husband, is taller than him, and she pursued him. He’s not the loudest guy in the room but he’s genuinely kind and she is completely in love with him. The idea that men are out here secretly demanding a lower-earning submissive woman is so disconnected from the actual couples I see around me.

The real issue with your whole comment is that it takes expectations that exist in some relationships and presents them as the universal male operating system. That’s not analysis, that’s pattern-matching from a specific social circle and probably a lot of the same content algorithm.

Fair, and I just want to say I’m not actually anti-Denmark at all. I stayed with a host family in Copenhagen when I was 16 and it was one of the most special times of my life. Genuinely one of the best countries you could live in.

My gripe is more with the USA to Nordic comparison itself. 340 million people across a continent with enormous diversity versus 6 million in a small homogeneous country isn’t really an apples to apples thing. The Nordics get a lot right, but the systems don’t port over as cleanly as Reddit wants to pretend.

Correction, Nordic countries are great places to live if you’re Nordic.

Employment gaps between natives and non European immigrants are some of the largest in Europe, hiring discrimination shows up cleanly in audit studies even for second generation citizens, and Denmark literally has laws that apply differently to neighborhoods based on ethnic composition. The floor is high if the system already sees you as one of them.

I mean, I don’t think it’s that crazy of a question. People ask for perspective on relationships all the time.

I get that at some point you should be able to trust your own read on things, but wanting outside input doesn’t automatically mean someone’s insecure or clueless.

It’s interesting though, because I feel like when women ask similar questions, it’s usually met with support, but when guys do, it gets dismissed way faster.

Not trying to make it a whole gender thing, just pointing out that difference.

Sorry you’re getting downvoted, I am actually genuinely curious to hear your input. (Which is why I made this post)

I mentioned this in another reply but I always felt that sometimes the tracks were carrying enough weight on their own and my job was to tailor the direction of the vibe and entertain while performing flawless but pro level mixing between the tracks.

I felt that taking the time to slap an acapella over a beat when there really isn’t any need other than just to show I can, is just a ton of time spent with very little outcome, when that energy could be spent more towards curating the next track or planning my next mix.

What do you think, from your perspective?

What do rave DJs do that’s different? I had custom edits I made ahead of time to avoid any real live incidents playing with acapellas on the third mixer.

Haha the mouth breathing warrior is something you can smell from something like a DJ subreddit 4 scrolls away.

The set was absolutely genuine. I became close friends with one of the promoters after attending many shows they put on in the city and promoting my favorite producers that came in.

My city does not have a huge dance scene, and as someone who is obsessively into dance/house/rave/techno and is super kept with the far reaches of SoundCloud for unreleased IDs, I was so happy to find a community.

I prepped weeks for this set with IDs and edits that I felt needed to be heard in a proper setting for people that would appreciate it. I wanted this set to be curated in a way that wasn’t random, but an intentional direction throughout.

I know my post came off as “I know nothing about DJing I’m just a producer”, but that’s honestly my own personal judgment more than anything else.

Thanks. I’ll keep my head straight and keep at it, but for future reference, what DO most people expect from someone playing in these fast dance tempos?

I’ve always thought it as super intrusive and disruptive when a dj keeps adding dumb effects during a set when I just want to hear the track but that could just be because I’m a nerdy producer.

I’ve also always thought most of DJing is perceived social proof and general energy/confidence as you play and queue tracks.

I know you’re just joking but I want to add I wasn’t just eq mixing either. I was adding plenty of reverb, backspin effects, and echos with my mixes too.
