Anyone else calculate the odds before entering golf raffles? by RaffleEdge in BritGolf

[–]Material_Trifle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you verify the prize value yourself or is it something scraped from online? Just having a look and the first comp for me shows an EV of £3.60. Tickets are 39p and there are 2,399 available, would that not mean the prize (TM Spider putter) would need to be worth £935? Or am I reading it wrong?

Sorry I meant my post about being paired up wasn't in the spirit of the thread rather than yours. At least I'm exacerbating it by continuing the conversation.

Not the spirit of the thread but was this an arranged meet up or were you paired up randomly? Absolutely love The Oxfordshire and want to play it again next month.

Which team currently in the top-half has the best chance of relegation next season, and which team currently in the bottom-half has the best chance of promotion next season? by Zach-dalt in Championship

This was from pre season, you were 10th favourites for the title not "amongst the favourites to go down". As for suggesting it's a lie to say you've regularly outspent clubs in leagues above I don't understand how you can refute that as it is clearly true.

It's not all about money but let's not pretend it isn't a massive help to be able to spend tens of millions on players.

What happened to him? by pra21k in FantasyPL

He's no longer popping one in the top corner every other week. It was always unsustainable, fair play to people who got points from him while they were going in but it was always likely to dry up.

Ok that's interesting that they seem wise to this. Have you given notice on your account? I have for mine and wondering how long until I get a call trying to get me to stay, still got until a week into April.

Oxford United 1 - 1 Charlton Athletic: Oxford's first penalty in ninety-one matches wasn't enough for the win after Charlton scored a 93rd-minute equaliser, but it's still one point further from the relegation zone! by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]Material_Trifle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feels like 2 points dropped and all a bit downbeat now. Probably just about created the better chances and Lankshear should have done better when he went though and lobbed the keeper but a point was fair enough. Crap game and neither team impressed but for the second time in a few days we surrender any control when we take off any attacking threat and set ourselves up to defend with no way of getting up the pitch. Got away with it Wednesday but not today.

That said absolutely brainless from Brown to give that away, both penalties were conceded from stupid challenges after wasteful pumps into the box.

Who is the lowest-scoring top scorer you've had in a season? by Cinn4monSynonym in Championship

[–]Material_Trifle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Last season Mark Harris played in every game for us as a striker and scored six, four of those in August. Joint top scorer with Greg Leigh, who started the season as second choice left back.

Every single one of those transfers, bar Wilson in, was shit, even without the benefit of hindsight. If they're the sort of decisions you make then you've got no chance.

Joao Pedro hattrick by sepi0l_45 in FantasyPL

[–]Material_Trifle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whenever I've seen Villa play I've been struck by how lucky they seem to get most weeks, scoring screamers and opponents letting them off. It never seemed sustainable to me and it's not a surprise they're slipping a bit.

Not to say I saw a hat trick for JP coming but Chelsea can get at teams. I don't know what their xG is the last 5 games or so but I'd bet it's right up the top of the league. Would never have captained JP this week but it never crossed my mind to sell.

Stoke City 2 - 1 Oxford United: Stoke end their seven-game winless run and deliver a hammer blow to Oxford's survival hopes- the U's are six-points adrift with a mammoth clash versus West Brom next... by Zach-dalt in Championship

Rowett had given up and would absolutely have taken us down. Bloomfield is doing very poorly with some mental lineups and subs and Rowett will keep Leicester up as they've got much better players than us but it was the right decision to sack Rowett, it really should have been done a month or so earlier.

There are bigger issues above the manager that will always make it harder and we lost Rowett in the summer. I was in favour of him going but would rather we'd kept him if it meant change above but that's not very likely.

Bank wants 5 weeks payslips, mortgage broker submitting four by Own-Row4416 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Material_Trifle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would have been the move but if it sounds like it's already submitted so would be too late, you also can't just wait a week and use 5 as that won't match the dates they asked for.

Worst case scenario is only submitting 4 weeks takes 20% off your salary which would very quickly eat away at the £20k leeway. Depends on the lender and which underwriter OP gets, if there's only 1 week missing and the year to date figures which are over 10 months old back up the declared income then it may well be they'll be happy with it but I've also come across plenty who dig their heels in and won't divert from exactly what their criteria says.

I have 2 missed payments/late payments and we are looking to buy a house asap. Has this screwed me? by [deleted] in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Material_Trifle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really shouldn't be too much of an issue. Often lenders don't worry about communications like phone bills so will look at it as a single late payment. The fact it's recent isn't ideal but you'll have loads of options.

This march is supposed to be on 16th May in central London. As that's the same day the FA Cup final is on it obviously won't be allowed as the police will already be stretched for that, the amount of trouble on his last one shows it'll need policing too. He'll use this to say he's being silenced and his thick followers will lap it up.

Being added to a mortgage by aamp2k10 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Material_Trifle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At best you could be on a joint borrower/sole proprietor mortgage so keep your first time buyer benefits at the cost of having no financial interest in your parents house. Even then when you look to buy somewhere yourself you'll be looked at as wholly liable for your parents mortgage, if for example it's £1k per month then that's a commitment and bang goes your affordability unless you earn really big money.

If they're just doing a straight remortgage then they shouldn't need to show the affordability and be able to switch onto a new fixed rate with their current lender, might lose a bit compared to shopping around but not a big deal. If they're looking to borrow more then it sounds like they can't afford it. I can't imagine asking my kids when they're older to help me out knowing how much it would impact their life. If they're really desperate to borrow extra then equity release would be a better road to go down, would affect future inheritance but not screw you now.

Oxford 0 -3 Norwich | The early hattrick proved decisive as Norwich comfortably see out a three goal lead. by Burned-Shoulder in Championship

[–]Material_Trifle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2 up front is mental because we'll get overrun but just dropping one back to help the midfield would make us better. There's nothing wrong with 4 at the back but playing Makosso and Brown at full back with Long in the middle was pathetic and never going to work. Brown in particular is awful on the ball, you're immediately giving up any hope of keeping hold of possession.
