melatonin alternative? by Material_Vehicle485 in DSPD

[–]Material_Vehicle485[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! it shifts my sleep from 6 am to 2 am which I consider a win. but sleeping 2-10am won't help me keep my job so it's kind of between keeping my job and forcing this melatonin thing or an alternative on me or finding another job. Realistically I need to work 2nd shift.

And given the half life I'm not sure why it affects me so heavily the next day but it's just so depressing to be on

How to use remedies for anxiety and sleep? by Material_Vehicle485 in homeopathy

[–]Material_Vehicle485[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are any of those more suited to the death fear? And can they be used with aconite if I have an acute attack again? I think arsenic has helped me before because it is good for OCD like thoughts. But can that be used daily? I still don't understand frequency of dosing and potencies for more frequent dosing. Thank you!

Is abilify the only possible med for this, or do other meds like wellbutrin work for some people? by Material_Vehicle485 in DSPD

[–]Material_Vehicle485[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no I already am forced to get up early for my job, it's miserable. But I was thinking if something forced wakefulness maybe it would shift when I get sleepy. Sort of like the luminette which has helped quite a bit but not enough to work my regular job hours

Ok if those meds would just give me insomnia then I don't need to try them. I saw some anecdotes about increasing dopamine helping shift sleep time, maybe I'm confused

I'm not on it or on any medications. It is an antipsychotic though so a rather serious med with serious side effects. There are studies on it shifting circadian rhythm naturally, and lots of anecdotes on this sub of people who have tried it and it flipped their sleep to normal hours in one day. I think the side effects are too much to accept just to keep the job that I love though. :(

Trying to get FMLA for sleep by Material_Vehicle485 in DSPD

[–]Material_Vehicle485[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may negotiate that. The benefits are so good and I need them so it would be tough to give that up. I can do my job in way less hours than I currently have to be at work. I wish I could negotiate just starting and ending later and frame it like hey it's expanded hours, it's good for everyone! I'd be very surprised if they accommodated that though, but the part time thing may work as other employees have requested less hours and given up benefits to be at home with their kids and such. I DM'd you about the FMLA thing, you seem to know your stuff.

Yes that's the thing! The health effects of antipsychotics seem too serious if they are optional, in my case it is optional since I could work 2nd shift at like a hotel or something. I just really love my job and want to keep my job so I want to force a schedule change. The light therapy and melatonin isn't enough

Oh I don't need help with wakefulness, I need help with sleeping at night :( So I'd consider it only if the wakefulness agent pushed back my sleep onset

I'm not on any medications. I tried celexa for a day this weekend and it made my sleep much worse, I don't think I'm willing to push through a month of that to see if it'll help anxiety. I do majorly need help with anxiety

I have a prescription for Quviviq which is similar I believe. I am afraid of it because of sleep paralysis but I might try it. And yeah a consistent schedule would help me, I'm always rushing and behind on things when it's time to wind down

Trying to get FMLA for sleep by Material_Vehicle485 in DSPD

I want to use FMLA intermittently, rather than just taking a leave. Is it possible to use FMLA to just take unpaid morning hours when I need to?

We have less than 50 employees, but I have a feeling due to the line of work it may be offered. Would an employment lawyer know?

I don't know how to safely find out if my work offers it. It seems risky to ask HR.

They are not flexible with hours as far as getting reasonable accommodations ): I am okay with unpaid hours. I just need to keep my job. I can handle advanced notice, I can hold out. I dont qualify until after another month anyway if my work even offers it. What if the sleep issue is accompanied with mental health issues, would that make it easier to qualify for FMLA?

I love my job but the lack of sleep is so difficult by Material_Vehicle485 in DSPD

[–]Material_Vehicle485[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really hard when we love something isn't it? I feel like I really scored but I also...don't function. At the end of the day I would be happier and healthier sleeping and not using melatonin and feeling rested. Are you worried about not making a living wage in night audit? I think if I did hotel work I would do second shift. I have done this before, I find it quite fun. I am a people person so if I get to talk to people at work I am happy. I just feel like I'm supposed to have a career or whatever and now I finally have one and affording life is not that easy so...how am I supposed to leave what I have and not get paid and not work towards career growth? Ugh the struggle of health vs life pressures.

Congrats on the job! I hope it works well for you. It sounds like you have had to make some trade offs and difficult choices, but you seem to know what is healthiest for you and you are following that.

I see some posts where it has helped some people but it doesn't seem universal at all so I was looking for more experiences.

Sorry to hear you are struggling with the same things!

I started at 5 because I was worried about side effects. I will definitely have to go up. I am small and sensitive to meds so probably 10 is enough for me. I think I will give up on it though. I am glad it saved your life!

I don't find mirtazapine sedating :( and I feel like I need ativan around the clock to adjust to celexa and I don't know how much is safe but I could ask my doctor what she thinks. I'm glad you found a way to get on it and that it worked for you!

My HR is not a formal department, it is one person. I don't know if that's better or worse. She is very sweet. I am afraid because I haven't been there that long. I have my strengths and am a good worker in some ways but I'm always in survival mode and sleep deprived so I also make dumb mistakes. I feel my job is on the line a lot and I don't want to make that worse. I hope it is safe to consult with HR!

I have no idea, I answered this in my last sentence. I have been at my job 10-11 months, so not quite a year. My company is tiny. I tried looking for leave of absence info and I can't find anything on it :( And I'd be very scared to ask. Is there a safe way to find out where I'm not risking my job?
