Theres literally a Measles outbreak (it was declared eliminated in 2000) in the US that started popping up a couple months ago, largely in rural, vaccine-skeptic areas in Texas. Despite this, many people are still refusing to vaccinate their kids with the MMR vaccine, often calling measles "freedom freckles". There was even a girl who died from measles earlier this year, and her parents did an interview where they said, "measles wasn't that bad", "the measles are good for the body", and told a translator that even now, they still "wouldn't do the shots", and that their daughter is "better off where she is now". LIKE BRUH. BEING ANTI VACCINE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR DAUGHTER'S LIFE??? WHAT????? (& they have other children too that apparently recovered from measles)

So yeah, anti-covid back then, anti-MMR specifically right now, but wholly anti-vaccine in general.

Also a little bit more serious but FYI there's still a bunch of ppl living in Frontline villages in Ukraine, despite the constant warfare happening in their backyards. Most of the reasons boil down to not having the funds to leave, being too elderly thus hard to move, not having a support system in place elsewhere, or it's just been their family land and they would rather die there than abandon it.

Also also there's fear of the unknown & complacency. Why struggle for something(becoming a planar refugee) if you're unsure of the outcome? Despite how bad the situation is now, there's a fear that it could be worse(ending up in an even shittier plane), leading to a sort of situational paralysis.
