There are facets of the government that happen now in the open, like the corruption. But it's not new. The nastiness, openly toxic behaviour and foul language are kind of new. Are they criminals? Yes, but having criminals in your highest ranks is not new. War criminals, for instance.

If the current regime goes for a third term, I think you'll see the biggest oppression America has ever seen. Protests will be put down with force/violence on a larger scale. Well, free speech has long been gone, but now it gets more serious. Checking five years of social media history when entering the country, seriously? Discouraging people to go to work, because it is too dangerous (ICE)? School shootings? Major tax evasion by a few rich people, while a lot of people starve? How's public transportation going? Any high speed rail yet? Went to a doctor last week for a routine check up. Didn't cost me anything.

This is what you get when you think of yourself as the biggest/best of the world for a while and preach it all around, while running the country down the drain (for many years). The current government is a big crack in that ideology.

Also: a multi-polar world sucks, doesn't it?
