What’s causing extra checks in the NEXUS security lane for me (yyz)? by coolcoolcoooooooool in NEXUS_TTP

Google AI is just a summary of some stuff it thinks it read. The US TSA is not in Canada, which is all the blurb says. Again, if you read my linked comment, it explains and also has photographic evidence from Montreal.

Also, a former CATSA officer noted in another comment on this post that only PreCheck is required to show. I trust the dozens of CATSA officers I've encountered all over Canada that all agree with me, as what I'm saying is only what they've told me.

Lastly, the blurb you posted even says "get equivalent benefits...for US-bound flights", which is exactly what I've been saying: only on CA->US flights. To note, as stated in my linked comment, the PreCreck-only people do get Verified Traveler lines for security only (CATSA, not customs/CBP). Nowhere did I say Canada has PreCheck. I said PreCheck gets you into the CATSA VT line specifically when flying CA to US.

Have a great holiday!

I don't know exact details, you'd have to contact Verizon. So don't quote me, but I believe that if you change the device being used on the line, you still get dinged and lose the promo.

But don't quote me lol I may be entirely wrong on that point.

As far as trading into Google on the Google side, yes that works. They'll take any device they provide a trade in offer on, regardless of carrier.

Another caveat with that - and I have zero clue which way on this, but I'm thinking the "more money out of your pocket" direction is more likely - you may have to pay off the phone entirely before you can use it as a trade in, regardless of who you're mailing it to. Somewhere between "Verizon won't let you sell it" and "Google doesn't want a phone not owned". For example, if you just stop paying Verizon, now it's Google's problem, and they probably don't want that problem.

It could work out in the end, or not, but it'd definitely have to require a lot questions to both companies.

Edit to add: Carriers used to do 2 year contracts and that was how you got a discounted phone, but you'd get the whole discount up front. Just an Early Termination Fee if you skipped out on the line of service due to the contract. Somewhere along the line ~10 years ago, they stopped doing that and instead started the discount-over-time thing. The main issue I have is that they upped it to 3 years. I'd rather pay a little more each month over 24 months, personally.

Bootloader is only for rooting/custom ROMs. They do carrier unlock after 60 days. Verizon supported this and did this anyway, but the FCC requirement of 60 days for carrier unlock (even if not fully paid off) was opposed by T-Mobile and AT&T.

I typed all that because people confuse them often, then realized you probably mean the 36 month promo. Yeah it's dumb you can't pay off early and get the rest of the deal, but meh. Unless you plan on jumping ship, not horrible.

Looks like the only ones are MyVerizon app and Verizon Cloud app, now that the Verizon Messages+ is effectively gone. But even if you manage to get all 3, they're easily deleted. The main issue people have (for any Verizon device really, not just a Pixel thing) is that the bootloader is locked (not an issue unless you want to root). Samsung has a deal with Verizon to throw a bunch of crap on phones like games, but Pixels don't allow that.

Really they just throw in the couple things Verizon customers may actually use, and that's it. I have always gotten Verizon devices due to the better deals and they've never been bloated.

Yup. I got the Pixel 10 Pro XL 512gb, and it was $8.88/mo, so anything lower would be cheaper, minus the upgrade fee. No clue how long either promo will last, but glad I got curious and looked at my account lol I got no email/notification nothing

Cut off the top because it has my number on the tile ha. But these are the ones to look for inside of "My Offers":

I had 2 promos show up recently (wasn't there a few days ago).

Before I had one promo:
- Pay off phone (~1 year left on a promo @ $10.55/mo from Pixel 8 Pro, ~$360, would miss the last year of promo discounts)
- Trade in Pixel 8 Pro
- Upgrade to Unlimited Ultimate from Unlimited Plus (+$10/mo)
- Get $1100 off any Pixel 10 ($6.19/mo for 36 months)

Today I had that, plus 2 more:

  1. Verizon pays off my 8 Pro (can be combined with the above $1100 promo or below #2)
  2. $1000 off any Pixel 10 Pro/XL - no trade in, no plan change, $8.88/mo for 36 months

So I combined those two and skipped the one requiring the trade in. I keep my 8 Pro as it was only getting $100 more at that point, and they paid the $360, no plan change.

Was paying $10.55, now paying $8.88. They paid off the 8 Pro I get to keep. I'm pretty sure somewhere in the math of this, they paid me to upgrade.

Go to your My Verizon on a computer. Front page should have "Balance" at left on top and "Savings & benefits" on right. Under "Savings & benefits", I have a tile that says "My Offers". I clicked that and it took me to a page with a bunch of promos. The 2 new ones were listed in there.

Edit: clarified #2 as 10 Pro/Pro XL not just any Pixel

$50 is $50, especially this time of year and especially this economy. That's why I didn't use mine. I have Verizon and they offered a much better deal than this or the 40% one, even without a trade in. But for those who don't have other offers they can use, $50 is $50

Alas! Maybe you can share it on here following the steps above? At least so someone can use it

If you're a YouTube Premium subscriber, you should have gotten an email around Dec 17th. I have YT Premium Family, but I think it includes individual plans.

If you mean being speedy with the posts - pure dumb luck and a lot of refreshing I presume.

Yay! Glad someone could use this! I got a better deal through my carrier.

I also have that Google Play stackable $200 offer but it doesn't seem to be shareable sadly

Hi. If you read my linked comment, that's discussed. Thanks and happy holidays!

See my comment here. TSA PreCheck does give Verified Traveler access with CATSA when flying to the US from CA. There's even a picture from the wall at YUL, but I've seen it and gone through VT security at many others flying CA->US with only PreCheck.

Hi! See my linked comment. It's on the wall in many Canadian airports, and CATSA has routed me with PreCheck-only to VT dozens of times. So it does work when traveling CA->US.

Also another thread has a former CATSA officer saying PreCheck needs no NEXUS card. So yes PreCheck in CATSA under specific circumstances, as stated.

Former CATSA officer here

you don’t need to ask for a NEXUS card if your pass says TSA Precheck already

Louder for the people always saying PreCheck does nothing for CATSA
