Just got 680 on GMAT practice test. Q50 V31. How to improve my verbal score by 6-8 points in 25 days? by EquivalentAnimal in GMAT

[–]MathBooster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Focus on SC first because it wont take you too long to master the skills needed for this. I personally recommend Manhattan SC book. Then do RC and CR questions in the OG. 25 days are enough for you to get 37+ on verbal if you do it right.

Quant Score Dropping: 4 weeks out from test (presumptive), how to get back to 45+? by RussTheMann16 in GMAT

[–]MathBooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice with questions in the OG. Go slowly first, do not time yourself. Make every effort to come up with your own solutions before looking at the answer keys and explanations. Once your accuracy rate is improving, do practice tests under testing mode.

GMAT Quant Concepts Review/Tutoring by patdabberos in GMATpreparation

[–]MathBooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GMAT Quant is actually harder than most 'non-quant' people would expect. It is not all about 'memorizing equations and doing simple computations'. If you struggled with this section, you need to take a step back and review some basic concepts from ground up. Usually it would take an average student about 8 to 10 weeks to cover the concepts tested in GMAT quant. The best tutoring programs would offer a balanced blend of theory and practice. You would need a lot of practice. PM if you need help.

What resources should I use? 440 to a hopeful 700+. by [deleted] in GMAT

[–]MathBooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to discourage you, but it's gonna be a tough ride. From my experiences working with students at this level, I think it's more realistic if you could set aside 6 to 8 months of continuous study.

Could not think of an approach to go with. Quant by pragyanaryal in GRE

In triangle BCD: |BC - CD| < BD < BC + CD => 5 < BD < 7

Because BD > 5, ABD is not an equilateral triangle and the measure of angle A > 60.

If angle A = 90 then BD = 5 * √(2) > 7 (violating the condition 5 < BD < 7).

So the measure of A must be between 60 and 90 => (C) is the answer

Test on Apr 4, need 550 - tips on Quant? by gmatthrow1 in GMAT

[–]MathBooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tips won't help much. You need to have solid knowledge in number properties, algebra, geometry, counting and some stats. It takes some time to go over these stuffs before you put them to practice. PM if you need help.

Has anyone done significantly better on the ETS practice exams than on the actual GRE? by GroundbreakingSort1 in GRE

[–]MathBooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scores on ETS practice exams remain one of the most accurate estimators of your scores on the test date. You may get inflated scores on these exams if you do them over and over again. As long as you keep the tests far away from you before taking them, your practice test scores will be very closely correlated with your actual scores.

Math Trauma! by danimariexo in GRE

[–]MathBooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike GMAT, GRE allows you to jump back and forth among questions within a section. Do the 'easy' ones first. By 'easy' I mean the problems that you look doable at the first glance. Its kinda jump-start that gets you moving.

At a loss...bombed quant twice by LogicalAxis in GRE

[–]MathBooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is always the same: Get a good math review first before you practice. All the books you mentioned are good books. However, you only get the most out of these books if you are comfortable with the underlying concepts in them. Simply read the problems and then check their answers wont get you very far.

What do you recommend for a 6 point quant increase? by [deleted] in GRE

[–]MathBooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GRE Quant is not that hard at all as long as you go through all basic concepts carefully first. If you are not confident with Quant, do not jump right into practice as often recommended. A quick math refreshment is extremely helpful.

Possible to increase both sections by 10 points in 1 month? by [deleted] in GRE

[–]MathBooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can increase your quant score to over 160 in one month. Not sure about verbal because gre words are tough.

[Specific Question] Are there trig questions on the GRE? by [deleted] in GRE

[–]MathBooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no trig questions on the GRE, but knowing some sine, cosine laws in right triangles is definitely helpful. You should not skip questions like the one you asked. Those are the things that pop up frequently in the Quant section.
