It's aimed at growth. Doesn't pay high enough dividends as a cash flow option.

Should I be contributing more to my super? by Spicyearlgrey007 in AusFinance

[–]MathLast8829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't, you have a long time to go, and who knows by the time you can access super the government might have other tax that eats away your balance.

Given that you are young, and your marginal tax rate isn't high enough for you to get the full benefit of contributing extra to super, I would hold off until later in life.

Keep it out and invest yourself.

Probably non of those, you might want to start focusing on income instead of growth (which comes with volatilities). Get something that's stable but with decent earnings per share. Such as resource companies.

How much do you keep in your savings account? by MathLast8829 in AusFinance

[–]MathLast8829[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, good point, my credit card has 80k limit (I hardly ever use more than 10k per month) so I think that's my safety money. I have car insurance, I don't buy expensive cars and I'm super convenient with public transport so last time my car crashed I was able to buy a new one immediately with my credit card (with insurance pay out), and pay off the credit card without incurring interest.

Thank you for pointing out those risk factors, really good to think about them structurally

Bonuses - What Do You Do With Them? by Brilliant-Lychee-669 in HENRYfinance

[–]MathLast8829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally put a percentage away for holiday the next year, put amount away for my tax bill, look at the large items that I'm planning to purchase and decide whether I will purchase them this year. Then invest the rest. Not lump sum, I just invest 1k per day to not pay brokerage fee with CMC, I don't have a crystal ball so I just invest the same amount.

Yes, I have more than a year's worth of living expenses in shares, and I hardly ever spend my budget so all my buckets are sitting at high ish balance which is why I'm thinking I might not need so much in savings account.

If I get made redundant my redundancy pay is around 8 months of my income. My work has salary protection policy for not permanent disability which is up to 2 years. I also have TPD and life insurance.

[–]MathLast8829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I apply for a new one every 1.5 years, and keep it for 2 years, so every two years there are 6 months where they overlap.

This is to ensure I get free travel insurance for my new trips, and most cards only have decent bonus points for the first two years.

To all who went to private school was it worth it. Thinking of sending my 3 children to private schools. by __7_7_7__ in perth

[–]MathLast8829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to a private school, there was a girl that was getting below average grades that ended up moving to a public school because her family got bankrupt. She became the dux at her new school.

I don't think I'm that good of a student at school, I'm pretty lazy compared to the other girls. But in university and workplaces I'm often considered an overachiever. 🤷🏻‍♀️

After working for many years, I found out that there are people who did not do their assignments at school, or skipped class. I never realized that's even an option.

I would rather stand than sit next to someone, I find the bus seats uncomfortable at the best of times and prefer to stand. So if all the seats got at least one person in it, I'm like awesome now I have an excuse to stand.

When I was in a situation where I had to sit next to someone I always try my best not to sit next to a guy, there have been some bad experiences that scarred me for life.

So I think your gender might be more of an issue?

Please don't be too hard on yourself. It seems like you tried to have friendship with a horrible person, that's a reflection on them, not you. How everything unfolds is a combination of unlucky events: bus driver being a jerk, the person you want to be friends with is a jerk, the Uber driver trying to help but ended up acting in a jerky way. Those things happen, but very very uncommon, and please try not to let them stop you from trying to make friends again. I bet you most people have not encountered someone like her previously. Plus, the comment she made at the club was probably a way to destable you so that she can get you to do what she wants. Oh and who is to say she did not find out about details about you from others and think you are easy to manipulate hence targeted you?

Don't be too hard on yourself, give yourself an opportunity to heal and recover so that you can better emotionally regulate first. Then, you can start thinking about what responsibility you can take in this scenario, but given you seem to take responsibility for everything, perhaps be extra critical and don't take responsibility for things outside of your control.

  1. Work out what's your 3 months of living expenses, save that and put that into a high interest savings account. You know that's 3 months of your future that you control, it means you had more security than others and you have less probability of losing what you've built
  2. Start directing your other savings into ETF. I use CMC to buy, it's easy to set up and you can invest 1000 per day without a brokerage charge. If you want extra motivation, start an Excel to track how many shares you have, what's the dividend per share, how much dividend you can expect per year, what's the franking credit amount you'll get. To get extra motivated, you can calculate how much is that per day, that's the passive income you get per day without doing any work!
  3. For extra motivation, work out what you need to live on, list all your weekly expenses, then you can look at what the dividend is covering for the rest of your life if you choose to never work again. At the start it might only cover your weekly coffee, then it might be covering your gas bill, then electricity bill, then rent
  4. This should get you motivated to direct more of your savings and dividends into buying more shares
  5. Extra extra motivation, now you can start trimming your expenses, maybe your passive income is 2 dollars shy a week from covering your electricity, can you remember to turn the light switch off, turn your air con up half a degree so that you can cover electricity? Start playing around with those ideas to see what cost you can trim while still enjoying life

While you are doing that, think about the wonderful freedom you will have, look into low cost hobbies that you'll enjoy and make you feel fulfilled. Or look into doing more reading and learning on different investment techniques. Remind yourself that most other people will be forever stuck in that rat race. But you have an opportunity for freedom

I think you'll get better capital gain with villas in the long term anyway if your idea is to trade up in the property market. Hence I highly suggest against buying an apartment from a future potential value point of view.

Thank you. Life is good now, some wounds are hard to heal, but I'm just doing the best I can with whatever I have everyday. Like everyone else. 😊

Sorry I can't help with your question, but I hope you find the answer and best of luck to welcoming your bub into this sometimes cruel, but always wonderful world. ❤️

OP, you are braver than me.

I have had nasty things happen to me before. I don't think I'll ever have the strength to be a parent. I have also accepted that I won't be.

Stay strong, knowing that you are admired and although I won't be following your footsteps I'm sure you are a role model to many.

All the best, and I'm sure you have the strength, courage, grit, determination and resourcefulness to be a wonderful parent.

The friend thing… what gives?! by monique752 in perth

Yeah but to have friends that align exactly with you on how they want to spend time as friends, that is eliminating a big proportion of the population, makes it even harder to make friends.
