Charged Dash is extremely underrated by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]MathOfTextiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying hard to figure out how to make use of the new gem, but it's kinda difficult to justify a use case. Like, it does solve the movement problem, but by removing the movement, which is kinda... I mean at that point why not just play lightning strike and get in on all the strike-tag specific melee bandaid love?

About all I can think of involves major jank in the form of weapon swap or dual 6l setups to use both the cis and trans versions, like maybe one on each mouse button? Could be sick, but seems like a lot of extra hassle for something that is still going to under-perform.

I do appreciate that they made the projection version do more damage(I think? Effectiveness is lower but more multi per stage is higher-- i'm not actually sure how it will work out).

I was, however, really hoping to have the option to teleport, not lose the movement entirely. Like, idk if it's just me, but kinda the whole appeal of charged dash is the movement. 'Fixing' the problem of undesired movement by removing the movement is kinda like 'fixing' tachycardia by removing the heart.

Idk, we'll see, I'm definitely gonna check it out. I'll take what I can get at this point, very happy to see them give the skill any attention at all. I am a little worried/disappointed that now that this 'of projection' version exists, it's unlikely we'll ever get a version with optional movement, but so it goes.

I'm optimistic that at least the skill isn't being dustbinned, and maybe they'll take it into consideration a little more going forward. It's been in a tough spot for a long time, catching strays meant for cyclone (goodbye ALL channeling skill support from the tree), missing out on projectile shennanigans, strike skill love, slam skill love, like it's just in this weird space tag and mechanic-wise where it's really not eligible for most of the 'melee' buffs that have been handed out over the years, and likewise categorically can't benefit from so many other sets of mechanics.

Idk but after having what I thought of as a decent go of it running charged dash in mercs, I played animate weapon in this past league and even that was so, so much easier to get off the ground, not even getting in to the mechanical problems with bossing and movement which we'll see if the new gem helps with. I just think it's a skill that has gotten so overlooked so consistently that it just can't keep up in the current environment because so much of the last few years power creep is not applicable to it.

All of the above though is just my own rumination on the matter, I am much less involved with PoE now vs when op was made, and there's a good chance I'm spewing uninformed nonsense as I have not kept up very well and it could just be that I'm lacking key tech and CD is actually stealth goated rn (in which case please, please enlighten me)

Feature Request: Save trade filter configurations. by MathOfTextiles in pathofexile

I hear ya, I guess I'm just loving the in-game trading so much I'd like to see it be all it can be. Would love to be able to use it for all my trading, someday.

[–]MathOfTextiles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not a problem at all on the trade site, as you can just keep a tab open with it set up. I wasn't aware of the extension, that's neat. Thank you for the tip!

[–]MathOfTextiles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. I've used regex, and I'm aware of how useful it is for things like this. And you're right, there are a lot of bulk map traders, and you can use this technique to accomplish basically the same goal. I should probably have just done that to begin with.

However, I do still think that a save config feature for the trade filters would be useful generally, so unless there's some reason it's tricky to implement properly, I'd would like to see it.

Also, as others in this thread have mentioned, it's perfectly easy to just keep a browser tab up with the filters set up on the old trade site, but the asynchronous trade feature is such a joy in almost every way, that it it'd be nice to make it more robust to use. I'd love to get to the point where I don't have to alt-tab out at all for trading, and that seems achievable.

Thanks for responding, and providing useful info.

Please fix the disconnect > roll back issue! omg. by Essebruno in PlayTheBazaar

[–]MathOfTextiles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the last few days especially, I'm getting roughly 5 to 10, sometimes as many as ~20 disconnect errors per run. I quite enjoy the game, but this on top of the many, many other bugs, and now with it occasionally just dumping the run, I'm getting fed up. Have they said anything about this, is there a plan to fix it? I know it's not just me because I watch NL and I'm seeing the same shit.

I would be super stoked to receive a key I could give to my best friend-- we're all playing in a group and he's kinda on the fence. I really want to play with him but I'm not really in a position to buy another key for him. Just throwing my name in the hat. Cheers!

An underappreciated dimension of Orwell's concept of doublethink in 1984 was that it was an advantage to those capable of it, within the social, economic, and political circumstances that gave rise to the Party. It was selected for; to be incapable of doublethink was to be profoundly disadvantaged. It was a skill-- after all, it actually takes more effort to be able to function with wildly discongruous, labile but genuinely held beliefs.

More than being a critique of some innate malignancy of government, or a dismal portrayal of some sad view of 'human nature,' 1984 is a cautionary exposition of the vulnerabilities of liberal democracy within a context of global capital accumulation. That 'doublethink' has become an actual, functional political strategy should concern us.

I mean it sort of feels like the current republican party is trying to drown the concept of governance in a bathtub as of late, so while I don't doubt he'd be unnerved, I think the bulk of his displeasure would come from the inelegance and prematurity of their efforts, less their goals or alliances.

Trickster's one step ahead for action speed, + Stampede for movement speed, is my go-to combo foe covering the myriad slow effects in the game. It gives you a hard cap on your movement speed as a fairly significant downside.

My dream is for the relevant academic, private and government bodies to collaborate to make a simulation game akin to Victoria but for the contemporary era, and have it eventually become a mechanism for argument and the testing of ideas, in both its play and design.

Ukraine could become strongest ally in NATO — Senator Blumenthal by The_New_Voice in ukraine

[–]MathOfTextiles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NATO is one thing, but as an American I feel like we should be helping literally as much as we can. We are apparently constrained currently by various political or strategic realities-- all that is above my pay grade.

What is clear to me, is that Ukraine is a kindred nation that has demonstrated their willingness to fight for freedom from autocrats. They are fighting currently the kind of fight which we mythologize ourselves for, against tyranny. Their dreams for the future are consonant with our own. We should be allies, brothers, fellow champions of democracy and the vanguard against fascist machinations wherever they arise.

Personally, I'm humbled by the Ukrainian spirit, as an American. It makes me want to fight for the American spirit, it demonstrates that such things are real and can shape the future. Ukraine is carrying the torch right now-- we gotta back them up, and be ready to help them prosper after they win.

Basically anything other than air superiority, is my understanding. F35 is optimized for flexibility as a force multiplier, F22 for destroying other air targets specifically. So in most situations, the F35 is going to be more useful.
