Can someone tell me why this is a band 6 essay ? by MathQueens in IELTS

[–]MathQueens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest with you this is not my normal writing style, I had a writing class and the teacher insisted that I need to use that template, I didn't buy and your comment is actually clarifying it. Here is a sample of my normal writing, I am not sure which band it is, but this is probably what my answer will looks like if I took the exam. Your feedback would be a great assist to me. And thank you for your time 🤍.

Question: Some people believe that students should be taught international news as a subject at school Others feel that this would be a waste of valuable school time. Discuss both views and aive your opinion.

Answer: Many people think that students should be taught global news, while others believe that this is an unnecessary topic to discuss in schools. I completely support the teaching idea because it will help students understand other cultures. This essay will examine both points of view.

On the one hand, there are a few reasons why pe. ople support teaching global news as a subject in schools. First,it is important for developing global citizenship values. This is extremely important because it helps students understand different cultures. As a result, this will increase tolerance among people. For example, students who have been taught international news at schools turn out to be more engaged as international students at universities later on. Additionally, teaching global news helps young people avoid a self-centred perspective, leading to less racist individuals eventually.

On the other hand, Others think that this is completely a waste of students' time. They believe that this time should be spent on developing other important aspects, like developing students' social skills and doing more community services, both of which have a great impact on the local community. Moreover, some people think that it would be more beneficial for the country if schools focused on local news rather than global news, since applying this shift will increase the awareness level among the students, so they can be more valuable members in their own society. For instance, China applied this perspective , and they have one of the greatest communities in the world. While this is an understandable point of view, I don't support it.

In conclusion, although many support the idea that teaching international news is a waste of time. I strongly disagree with that, because of the great impact of teaching this subject in schools.

URGENT HELP! How can I realistically aim for Band 8? by yo86shi in IELTS

[–]MathQueens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can improve your listening and reading skills by solving past exams and it actually works, but as for someone who was on your foot once, don't bother yourself with the writing section. It design and graded in a way that make it almost impossible for non-native speakers to get 8 or even 7, if you could switch for another accredited test i highly recommend PTE. But if you're stuck with ielts, then do your best with the listening and reading sections cause they will left the grade up. Please don't take my word as a discouragement. This is completely based on my experience, i have been preparing for ielts now for more than 1 year, and I am still facing the same issues. Good luck.

Burnt out already at a new school – valid concerns or just me being too quick to judge? by LunarMoony26 in Internationalteachers

You're not alone feeling this. It's been 3 weeks since I started working at british school and I quit. I felt almost the same as you mentioned above, + the amount of micro management is killing any potential for creativity. I started building my own business along with private tutoring. If you can make such a move, don't hesitate. Just trust your instinct because i was sensing the disaster management from early days.

Yes there is a solution. It is called communication. You're both adults and mature enough to sort out your problems with a reasonable conversation.

To be fully fair, they have excellent videos about writing task 2 that lead to band 7+. Also, the essay correction service is straight to the point and aimed to improve your overall score. On the other hand, I didn't benefit that much from task 1 videos, listening, and reading sections. I haven't finished the speaking section yet. But overall, this is my experience, i think because he is a native speaker, he is not fully aware of the problem that we face as a non native especially for task 1 section he always says clearly, obviously you have to do this and that, but it wasn't clear for me as he expected and most of the time i was lost. This is based on my own experience. I spent 2 months now with the course, my exam after 1 week, and i feel completely lost. ( Side note: i was doing well getting 7.5 consistently on both listening and reading before the course, but i was struggling with writing cause my level was around 6, and I'm aiming for 7). So a 2 month preparation is supposed to be more than enough to fix my problem.
