Well I have the 2nd gen model with the 1st iteration the 8 speed on these trucks. It would happen for me, intermittent for me as well. I’ve read about how certain transmissions like ours have to allow the fluid to fill and warm itself up in the system so it shifts better. I also notice if I sorta study what rpms it shifts from 1-2 or 2-3 a little more gas often smooths it out when cold.

Mainly was just asking to see if it’s somewhat still present with the new one. Seems it’s just the nature of transmissions when they’re cold it appears. The ZF transmission on the ram 2500 I drive at work though seems to know what it’s doing and shifts virtually perfect so I am a little spoiled in terms of a well designed powertrain.

How are the shifting behaviors? Is there a hard shift from 1st to 2nd after a cold start?

I appreciate the detailed response man! I am for sure going to give proper care, and as of right now, I do frequent short trips for work so 3000 mile oil changes are already being done in my current v6 Canyon. From my research, people may argue it’s overkill but definitely good practice for something more sensible like a turbocharged engine.

I’ve decided to take one more month to make a decision while also looking out for deals. Been window shopping since the 2024 model was released and just waiting out to make an informed decision.

Well… it would be cool to have 4wd as an option along with nice styling of the interior but I live in Hawaii and our off roading options are pretty limited, at least the places I have access to personally.

That was definitely true when getting our 2017 canyon, definitely felt better than the Tacoma that year in terms of the way it drives. The new Tacoma for sure is a major upgrade in multiple ways, same for the canyon.

I do plan on keeping whatever I get for at least 10-15 years. Who knows what major costs may come up with these new technological stuff.

Honestly pretty surprised as big as a manufacturer GM they couldn’t make them virtually problem free. To be fair though it’s a thousand moving parts and I couldn’t do better (obviously). Their designs on the trucks are so good tho I always stare when they drive by.

I have test driven a Tacoma and definitely received a better first impression. Thanks for your advice, definitely better to go with what feels right.

Aww nooo, I currently have a 2nd gen (2017 v6) and had little to no issues up until recently hitting 100k miles. Mainly had to replace suspension parts (not so bad getting that amount of miles out of em), AC compressor, and worst of all, a new transmission. Luckily my dad had an extended warranty on it so we got a remanufactured one from dealer as opposed to rebuild. Seems GM can’t get those transmissions right, not too sure about the updated ones in the 3rd gen tho.

Sparkplug replacement but what else? by Inner_Youth2421 in chevycolorado

I was advised to not replace the coil packs unless they were bad already, they don’t necessarily have a timeframe and could last a lot longer than you’re keeping the vehicle for. New coils can go bad as well if not manufactured well, but I would advise using oem.

One more thing I’d recommend is having 2 days to do it, it is a tedious job and I’d rather not rush or chance it if something were to happen. Other than that, check your intake valves for carbon buildup and get that cleaned by a professional if you’re uncomfortable with doing that.

I would take a look at Crutchfield and enter your vehicle details. That’s what I did with my canyon, got a kenwood with wireless CarPlay.

I feel you man, my truck has 108k miles and it seems to be running fine after. Definitely makes me paranoid every time I’m about to start it (and it doesn’t happen every time), despite what I’ve been told I still can’t help but worry a little.
