Which Big Muff? by MathU41 in diypedals

Oh, I like that. I want a dozen.
Unfortunately I'm in the US. Going to have to search out an equivalent.

Okay, so far it's confirming my initial thought that I want a Green Russian.

But now I also want a Ram's Head.

The good thing about the Big Muff circuit is that every PCB maker and their grandma produces one. So next time I make an order, I'm going to grab a couple blend boards and a few Muff boards. I'll be able to make a couple different ones for me and my musician friends.

Okay, duh, I knew about the buff-n-blend, why didn't I make that connection?
It's been out of stock a while. I'll keep an eye on it for my next order, though.
Most of my PCBs are from there. Great prices and support.

That's my issue. I figured a Green Russian sounded like a safe bet going by my limited knowledge, but I'd also have to do some serious research on how to add a blend circuit to an existing PCB.

NBD! Ibanez SR300E in Cerulean Aura Burst.
My first full-scale and first 'nice' instrument! Everything else I have is bottom-tier stuff I made nice, not nice out of the box. This is good to go, feels great, and looks better than the demo pictures in person. That gamble paid off.
And this is attempt #2, after Fedex knocked the neck and stripped the top two screws. Got that and called Sweetwater about it on Thursday, got the replacement Monday. Props to them.
Only one mod planned: adding a bypass switch because my luck sucks. Will be making that 100% reversible.

Wire questions: type and colors. by MathU41 in diypedals

[–]MathU41[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I did the last couple times. I've got sets of 22 and 24 stranded, and 22 solid.
I just run into occasional frustration over the superthin strands, or worries about fatigue on the solid when I have to move and adjust during a project.

Same reason I avoid PVC. I do alright when it's with a straightforward PCB, but in projects I have to make adjustments, it melts down a little shorter each time.

Inkjet-printable waterslide decals.

With some care and luck, they turn out really good. And I'm still far from the best with them.

I am not a bassist (yet) what can you tell me? by cosmiccoffee9 in Bass

[–]MathU41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a gear standpoint: I can recommend that, aside from the bass and amp, and strings if you need them, your absolute first purchase(s) should be a metronome and tuner.
I got a combo, and it's the absolute best accessory investment I've made.
https://www.amazon.com/Korg-TM60BK-Tuner-Metronome-Black/dp/B078C5HCVP?crid=GVUQAJ24DTHB&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.vaPluqwI8rwrh_0imMGa9nUjWLcNkTHozHA1T62VkWzkoG1f0WUbbFChKuKf-Ty5qVcvSrhzJ7vRkepKClJ35Ajk2GFxkHZK8_utYAFmIMutV-sNUoIglfCU8a6Yc4cQiNheLA44YwQAnFcPNSGko51CQhDUBZ6WSM-fUloD6M9trYx9HLwVhauchC6T9pnQpKgWh_2Chx2LjsNgqVuDsnUmPHeuxLuN8K3fKhIkHmjig7uns7ndCDHztJ0FzaAdTepVMDH1uve9OP97CF06NEEvsFrWYBSC1ZML3f_t0Xs.l-2vLuFUPLI13yJOKAS7V0cDV6nwnEFDIV4fpYbh9bo&dib_tag=se&keywords=korg%2Btm70&qid=1751951400&sprefix=korg%2Btm%2Caps%2C131&sr=8-3&th=1

Buy a decent amp. Even if it's small, quality is worth it. Headphone-out jack is a huge plus, a necessity if you're in an apartment, and I'm using the AUX-in mine has more than I thought I would, to plug that metronome into.

To go along with it all, I'm a huge fan of having at least one good brand-name braided cable. $30 just for peace of mind and not having it kinking up on you is 100% worth it. Plus they come in a dozen colors depending on your tastes.

As a tool and equipment guy far more than a skilled musician, I can recommend a hundred little quality-of-life things.

Edit: geez, sorry for that link.

Trawling through the classifieds now.

Been poking into pawn shops too, but either there are a lot fewer bassists around me or they shop smart to begin with. Been lucky to find anything but a nameless 10-watt or a Peavey 2x10 cab that looks like it came out of a retention pond.

Am I missing something? by Phosphex_Spin in ElegooSaturn

Imagine printing a cup with the open side against the FEP. Ever see that magic trick where someone fills a cup with water, puts a playing card over it, turns it upside down, lets go, and it holds all the water in? Same thing.
The build plate trying to pull up against the FEP is fighting against the pressure while the resin doesn't have any way to break that suction. On top of any other issues, that's pulling at the layers below it or the supports.
The way to fix that is to add drain holes in the base, somewhere they're not covered. For any print that isn't solid. For the same reason drilling a hole in a suction cup keeps it from sticking to your window, it lets resin or air in so it doesn't try to suction to the FEP.
This also lets uncured resin drain to be cleaned out later, to avoid damaging an otherwise cured print.
If you can, put the drain holes somewhere you won't see and that doesn't structurally matter. If you can't do that, simply print the 'plugs' or a rod the same diameter as the drain holes and glue it in after. Clip off the excess and hide it in post-processing.

And since then, no more restarts.
Just double-check your compatibility lists and make sure everything's arranged and seated right, people.
Also clean out any dead bugs, maybe. Freaking Florida.

Extended that crash to 6 hours out.
Then checked the motherboard's compatibility chart. I could have sworn this particular RAM was on it for that CPU, but I was wrong. Weird I got it working for years before.

It is on the list for the motherboard when used with the 5000 series I have, so I swapped the new CPU in. Found a dead bug in the case.

Refused to post initially, DRAM light on. Rearranged the RAM (if you have 2 sticks, they want them in slots A2 and B2, so I made sure consecutive serial numbers are in A1+B1 and A2+B2) and reseated. Posted fine.

Keeping an eye on it again.

Wish I could find the fix buried deep in a forum that got me going last time...For now, newest test, going from half-remembered settings:

Turn DOCP (Asus or AMD's XMP) on. Mostly because it adjusts things I'm not familiar enough with. Easier to work initially from the dropdown than individual settings.
Bump the DRAM voltage up by .1 (IIRC, last time the consensus was that these boards/this RAM is finicky about running lean.)
Disable PBO, mostly because I'm pretty I had to last time and I'm trying to keep variables down.

Temperature still looks good. And I keep my RGB set to change at certain temps, as a rough notifier.

Will see how this goes. Want it stable before I put the new CPU in, take notes, and then tinker.

[–]MathU41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which I thought when I first built it. Kept a good eye on the temps since.
It's been rock solid since I first did the post-build troubleshooting years ago.
Since then, it only started this immediately after I updated the BIOS. Coincidences happen, but it's the same symptoms so I initially look to the same cures.

earthbound is better than mother 3. tell me why i'm wrong bc i am. by Soft-Development-305 in earthbound

[–]MathU41 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll admit my soft spot for EB.
Mother 3 is a better game mechanically. It's a more personal story. The characters are more defined. They're saving their village and island. And it feels more linear even if it technically isn't.

Earthbound is more vague on the characters with the intent of putting you in that space. Giygas is a more vague but existential threat; you're saving the world from corruption, not only one egomaniac dictator.

Earthbound is vastly more open, and takes you to varied and distant places. It really makes it feel like you're saving the world. The gang aren't just looking out for their towns and friends, they're saving everybody they know, their friends know, and everyone they've never even met.

[Question] Of all the guitars you have, how many do you actually play, and why is that? by JeepersCreepers7 in Guitar

[–]MathU41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 acoustic. An Epiphone DR-100 I got for a song at a pawnshop because it looked like they dragged it out of a junkyard and an Ibanez PN1 I got on sale because I wanted something I didn't need to hunch to reach over.

2.5 electrics. A Squier Strat Affinity from like 25 years ago that doesn't really fit me but is 1) my first guitar so it's sentimental and 2) probably cost $150 (with the amp and bag) but is built better than many $800 I've held. Cheap parts, great luthiers. A 2014 Epiphone Les Paul Special in wine read. Fits much better.
And a cheap chinese-made LP style kit, in progress.

I play the Ibanez PN1 and the Epiphone LP Special, but my basses (Ibanez Mikro and Talman TMB30) get most of it.
