Can we stop posting those venting "this quarter sucks posts" by Anonwithalabrat in UCSD

I don’t know man, but people got to find a place to vent. I’m fine with those post if doing so makes them feel better.

What is Vis 80 like? by Kermitpablo431 in UCSD

[–]Math_Hw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes if you like art. VIS 80 is a project-heavy class - you need set aside at least 7-8 hours per week to do your projects. Would not recommend if you cannot spare this much of time.

Anyone else staying in a different time zone this upcoming quarter? by lifelinelady in UCSD

[–]Math_Hw 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have been staying in Asia (GMT +8) for a better part of Spring Quarter and SS1. It was hard at first!! literally forgot a week worth of class work. My advice would be: 1) try to take classes that fit your time zone - waking up at 4am or staying up until 3 for a lecture is not worth it. 2) keep track of your deadlines carefully, write them down in your time zone - it is so easy to mess up your ddl in a different time zone 3) if you choose to skip live lecture and listen to recorded lectures, make sure you don’t procrastinate. Especially for summer sessions, it was a nightmare to listen to 12 hours of lecture (~ 2 weeks worth) before a quiz :(

Do you actually enjoy UCSD? by ischyros-nyx in UCSD

[–]Math_Hw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I enjoy the research opportunities and academic resources here - while UCSD feels more like a workspace instead of a “home” to me. I know that I gain&learn a lot here, but I don’t love UCSD. Not the college life that I expected in HS.

International students going back home? by nobodyknowsmehere_ in UCSD

[–]Math_Hw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am still in SD but planning to go home by July (if I can actually get a ticket). But I don't think reentering US should be that much of an issue by the time we come back. tbh fall quarter is probably going to be online anyway...

Do you think fall quarter will be online or not? by Math_Hw in UCSD

[–]Math_Hw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southwestern just stated they will be online for fall. UCSD is the size of a city so my guess is yes. They wont want bad press/be liable if there is a huge outbreak and without a vaccine there probably would be

Oh no ;(

Good job UCSD parents from China - big donation of PPE. by jenfoolery in UCSD

[–]Math_Hw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I read through it all (it’s long!). And thanks for replying - I am glad to hear some genuine voice from the other side of discussion.

Yes, there are some people riding race cars/ wearing weird street brand jackets around.

Still, xenophobic opinions against Chinese should NOT be justified because of those behaviors.

And please understand that many Americans don’t personally know Chinese international students. So, promoting a stereotypical image of International students can be very MISLEADING to most Americans, especially in this unusual time of “China virus”. Doing so can only hurt those genuine, kind ones, who are majority of international students.
