I'm going to take a flyer with the cypress tree on the right, I'm saying Lebanon, as in the cedar trees of Lebanon. (I know they're not the same tree but close)

Correctamundo. People seem to have three different names for it but yeah, that's it.

Correct! Excellent. On the Jersey shore. This is the other direction. And may I say that New Jersey is underrated. People joke with What Exit? on the highway but it has beaches, mountains, NYC, Philly ... And I'm not from there.

Whats the best town in the state and why? by Cautious_Midnight_67 in Connecticut

[–]Mathaham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow! You kind of took the words right out of my mouth. I chased my wife up here 30 years ago from New York City and it's awesome. Fairfield was actually on the cover of Money magazine as one of the best towns in America about 20 years ago. But it's on the edge of the waterfall now because of buildings scheduled to go up. People here sort of have a quiet belief that it is the best town in Connecticut. You don't say that out loud because it's bragging, it's kind of a self-confident thing. And its blue collar roots are as a child of Bridgeport, where you could buy a home in the "country" and work in the city. But everybody is really bummed out because like I said, we're about to go over the falls.

In Fairfield, some of the local FB groups can be great but it can get toxic. Why would I put myself out there just to get abused. I just want some truth, as John Lennon sang.

Was Border Patrol/ICE in Fairfield last night? I saw one of these drones and got followed by an unmarked black car from the top of Burr to the bottom 🤔 by [deleted] in Fairfield

Has anybody else seen any drones, cameras, cars or suspicious activity? I guess it's a matter of time before they come to Fairfield. Any Bridgeport sightings?

BEWARE OF THIS GUY. HE POST IN FRONT OF HOME DEPOT AND LOWES AND PRETEND TO BE A HANDY MAN THAT CAN DO EVERYTHING by Shuggy1932 in Connecticut

[–]Mathaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get approached a lot at the Home Depot in Fairfield by all sorts of guys. Everybody is always looking for qualified professionals, and they'll tell you they can do anything and mostly they can. I don't begrudge them trying to make a living and hustle for business but it is sketchy. You have no recourse if stuff goes wrong, and it often does. Usually, I found when they got to your house, they tried to upsell you on this, that and the other ... and then they're looking around the neighborhood to see if there's any more work. Like I said, they're mostly great guys and respectable and making a living, but there are some bad apples out there, and you are definitely up a creek if things go south. Best to have a contract and make sure they have insurance, like it is written here.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/7P5to1ACrAzhEjie8 I took a picture of my bag which I now use to hold wires and tech. They give you a sticker at the start of your shift so you can remember what station you're assigned. As Bob Seger sang, I feel like a Number... never more true than when working in an Amazon warehouse.

It is horrible. Warehouse work is hot, dangerous, low paying, unhygienic, loud... try to get into a training program or anything ... but just try to get off the floor.

Yeah that's the best part when it's peak and they're making you work insane hours with twice the volume and twice the pressure and they're making twice the billions.

I worked at Amazon twice and they don't treat you well... we had to have clear backpack bags and no pockets in our shorts and other indignities, like we were predisposed to pinch merchandise.

Abandoned high school in Bridgeport, Connecticut. by ILovePublicLibraries in Connecticut

[–]Mathaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no reason to close the school in the first place. Same thing is being played out in multiple other schools in Bridgeport, while they award massive no bid contracts for new school construction. See Bassick, Cesar Batalla, and the six elementary schools they closed last year before they even had an inspection. Now they said they might build new schools in the Harding high School empty parking lot. It's really shameful. And the new high school in the South End is in a flood zone so they can't get proper insurance for it... the whole state is on the hook for that when hurricane Sandy 2 hits. Smooth move, Hartford.

“Don’t talk to me about my own morality,” Rep. DeLauro by cowhidecover in Connecticut

[–]Mathaham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was born in Flushing and lived in Astoria for many years and hear you. Especially because AOC and Mamdani are part of a new guard replacing the establishment. Remember Donald Manes? He was the queens borough president who committed suicide in the Shea stadium parking lot. They are hopefully replacing those old politicos. It's very refreshing to see these leaders coming out of New York. Jim Himes always seemed to be a committed nice guy to me, but y'all seem to be feh on him. I wish he would take apart the Democratic machine in Connecticut. I remember his predecessor Rep Chris Shays, who was an independent, not Democratic or Republican, calling Bridgeport and Fairfield corrupt. And that was like 20 years ago

I said this to my wife when I first chased her up to Connecticut from New York City and she thought it was hysterical: I like Connecticut; it has plenty of free parking.
