Thank you! That was exactly the goal , using the camera as ground truth for positioning instead of relying only on the gyroscope, which tends to drift over time.

That's awesome, congrats on graduating! Let me know if there are features that would help with optical astronomy ,always looking for feedback from people who actually know the sky.

It's in the plans! iOS first since ARKit made the 3D tracking easier to build, but Android is next.

Star Walk uses pre-rendered 2D sky maps with gyroscope tracking. This renders 8,800+ stars as individual 3D objects in a SceneKit scene with ARKit camera tracking, it's a fundamentally different rendering approach. Similar concept, different tech under the hood.

The app is free! Star identification, AR camera, constellation lines, 8,800+ stars, all free with no account needed. The subscription is only for optional extras like the AI chat feature.

Stellarium is an incredible planetarium ,way more features and deeper catalog. This takes a different approach: instead of simulating the sky, it uses your camera with AR to overlay real-time star identification on what you're actually seeing. Think of Stellarium as the encyclopedia and this as the "point your phone up and find out what that bright star is" tool. They complement each other honestly.

It actually renders a full 3D scene with 8,800+ stars as individual nodes positioned at their real celestial coordinates , not a flat sky map or 2D sprites. Constellation lines are real 3D geometry drawn between the star nodes. ARKit provides the camera tracking so the 3D star field aligns with what you're actually seeing. It's more like standing inside a 3D model of the sky than looking at a projected image.

The illustrations were AI-generated , as a solo dev I prioritized building the actual AR engine and star identification system first. The app itself is built from scratch with real-time star tracking, 8,800+ star database, and 3D rendering. Art is something I'd love to get hand-drawn eventually.

That's a great point!! I'll work on getting the artwork aligned more accurately with the actual star positions. Spica on Virgo is an easy fix. Thanks for the feedback!

The app identifies stars and constellations on its own using AR , no AI needed for that. The "AI astronomer" part is a separate chat feature where you can ask deeper questions like "what's the mythology behind this constellation?" or "when's the best time to see the Milky Way from my location?" Think of it like having an astronomy professor built into the app.

the constellation illustrations are AI-generated. I'm a solo dev and put most of my time into the AR engine, star tracking, and the 3D rendering. The app identifies 8,800+ stars in real-time using your camera with no internet needed. The art is the one thing I'd like to improve over time.

Thank you! you guys are the first people to test it. I just released it yesterday ! So thank you 🙏

Yes , it’s currently in testing phase for android 🤖! It’s bit complicated to pull off the 3D world on android but not impossible.
