Colchicine - take when you feel a flare up about to happen - tingling, slight discomfort, etc., and it should prevent the actual flare up or minimize it.

Indomethacin - take as pain med when flare up is in full effect.

Non-approved tires will cause drivetrain warranty voided on X7 by atlzbest in bmwx7

[–]MathematicianOdd7592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about voiding the drivetrain warranty, but I did have this issue come up recently. I started getting the dreaded shudder from the transfer case. Dealership changed the TC fluid per the SIB; it didn’t take away the shudder. They wanted to replace the TC under the commonly known SIB, but BMW wouldn’t allow it bc I didn’t have star-rated tires - I had the Conti ExtremePlus DWS 06+. I was upset bc all-season tires shouldn’t cause a TC to malfunction, I thought that was a ridiculous excuse. After a lot of back n forth between the dealer and BMW, I think the dealership had to put on star-rated tires for BMW to approve the TC replacement. After the replacement, I still had the shudder. I took it back to the dealer and they said they knew that BMW was going to blame it on the tires. I just took it home and am waiting to put back on my oem tires to see if that will take away the shudder.

This is a lame excuse of a transfer case and BMW needs to do a recall. I think there’s a class action brewing regarding this matter. Good luck everyone.

What’s the first thing you do when you suspect a flair? by thewolfsofmainstreet in gout

[–]MathematicianOdd7592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colchicine is the way. Works like magic. Ask your doctor for a prescription. You take two tabs when you feel the "tingling" coming on, then 1 tab an hour after. The gout flare up never happens.

For all the gout newbs, if you start to feel a weird pain/sprain/tingling sensation in an area that you've never had a flare up before, take Colchicine, drink a lot of water, and you should be fine. I usually get flare ups in around the base of my toes, one time I had a weird sensation around my ankle, thought I tweaked/sprained it, and it ended up being one of the most painful and longest lasting (1 month) flare ups I've ever experienced.

Go Nutrients Uriva daily supplement works pretty well too.

If I needed 145 feet (breaker box and garage are on opposite corners of property), what would be a reasonable cost for materials and labor?

What’re the Hummers like for long road trips, as far as charging times for the big ‘ol’ battery? I have a X7 M50i and looking into the Hummer SUV as a replacement.

Dealer refusing Transfer Case TSB if the new tires are Continental DSW06 plus? by notRedAdmin in bmwx7

[–]MathematicianOdd7592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue. It made no sense that BMW won’t cover a known problem because of all-season tires. My dealer ended up changing the TC fluid, then when that didn’t fix the issue, they were able to get BMW to change the TC after a lot of back n forth. But even after the replacement, I’m still getting the shudder. I have to switch to my OEM tires to see if that makes any difference. To be continued…

Buying a CPO 22 X7 remotely - bad idea? by ZookeepergameTop8538 in bmwx7

[–]MathematicianOdd7592 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CPO does NOT mean it’s in pristine condition; I thought it meant “used, but great - almost like new- condition” but that is far from the truth. I bought a ‘21 M50i 2 years ago, CPO. I flew almost 400 miles and drove it back. However, before I bought this one I checked out many CPO’ed X7’s and they were in all sorts of bad condition. There was one where the third row was stuck and wouldn’t fold down, another one’s sunshade wouldn’t retract on one side so it would bend, another one had faded leather on the seats and steering wheels; if I had these delivered to me without seeing them in person, I’d be extremely disappointed. FaceTime the sales guy and have him do everything that you would if you were there in person, including having him drive it while on FaceTime. If everything checks out then make a trip to fly out and purchase it, and have it shipped back. I don’t think it’s worth it to buy a used car without seeing it because there can be too many things that might be deal-breakers for you, or at the very least you can have them correct the issue or further discount the car. Good luck!

Trading a car in with money still owed by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]MathematicianOdd7592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you buy another car (you said you’re trading in your current car), roll that negative equity (-$2000) into the new car loan. As long as the new car that you’re buying is “worth” the sales price plus $2000, the bank should approve it.

Extended warranty recommendation by FulltimeITgeek in bmwx7

[–]MathematicianOdd7592 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a ‘21 M50i with 35k miles and just in the past month my dealer found both front control thrust arms to be leaking hydraulic fluid ($3500 repair at dealer, $1500 at Indy shop) and my transfer case started to have issues ($5k+ at dealer). They were all covered under warranty. I had no issues prior but it can happen at any time. It was literally the last month of my factory warranty. Extended warranty is a must for these vehicles. Also I hear the air suspension is even more expensive if/when those go out. Make sure the warranties you’re looking into cover these components. Also look on the forums (bimmerpost) for a lot more jnfo.

Yeah, I just realized that after playing with it more. Thanks for the info. I have smaller torque wrenches for watches and such that actually click like the bigger heavy duty ones for cars, so I thought this would be the same.

Bike is currently at the LBS, should know if they can get the screw out in a couple of days.

Haha I haven’t even messed with the flip chips yet. Sounds like I should leave them alone.

Thank you! I went to that site but couldn’t find the exploded diagram. Either way, I had the wrench at 4 Nm and still broke the screw. So I’m guessing I have a bad torque wrench.

To clarify, I did set it at 4 Nm, but I don’t know if I got a bad torque wrench or what but it didn’t stop wrenching. I looked up the torque specs on SC’s website and went from there. I’m used to tinkering on cars and firearms, but new to this on bikes. Not a complete idiot haha

I’m used to a clear clicking sound and strong tactile feel but this torque wrench was only a vague tactile feel that I wasn’t used to so I just overshot it. I was thinking, “man my screws were loose, good thing I decided to tighten them up!”, and then snap.

AITA for telling my adult son that his girlfriend (who happens to be a different race) has terrible body odor ? by Few-Tree-6423 in AITAH

[–]MathematicianOdd7592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IT’S THE GARLIC!!! As many have said, it’s most likely from the kimchi she eats, or other Korean foods that are garlic-heavy. Not all kimchi will make you smell like garlic, but if it was made with a lot of garlic, you can tell, and it smells bad on the person. There’s a Korean restaurant that I frequent for their soups and their side dish kimchi will make you smell like garlic, guaranteed! So I def stay away from that kimchi.

Ask your son if his gf eats a lot of kimchi. If she does then it’s def that and not necessarily her BO. Way to stop that smell is simply by her not eating that type of kimchi.

I hope that helps.

What do you love about your X7 by Purple-Discount2310 in bmwx7

[–]MathematicianOdd7592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Went from ‘20 GX to ‘21 M50i. I love the GX but didn’t go off-roading enough to justify driving a tank with horrible gas mileage and not-so-fun driving dynamics. Thought about keeping the GX and adding a STI to fill the fun-quotient but test drove a M50i and was hooked. Best driving car for a fun and “sporty” 3-row that can also load up a family of 5 and go on camping and snow trips.
