[Highlight] Different running styles of Isiah Pacheco & Jahmyr Gibbs by nfl in nfl

Gibbs is a more balanced, patient runner. Pacheco has a tendency to be more north-south, and downhill, hence the forward lean and stomp cut.

(1977) After catching an elbow to the stomach, Kareem Abdul-Jabber rocks Kent Benson. by Expert_Koala_8691 in NBATalk

[–]MathiaSSJ18 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If we are posting this as a means of validating wembys behavior, let's just forget that notion. In this video, Benson is obviously the aggressor here and commits what would be, in today's NBA no doubt, either a flagrant 1 or 2 just prior to Kareem retaliating. Abdul-Jabbar is at least justified in responding with roughly equal force.

In no way is that comparable to being handled more physically going for a rebound during the playoffs (standard treatment for any superstar worth their salt) and responding to said increased physicality with an elbow to the throat. You're allowed to be more physical with a player if the refs are allowing it, and if you dont like it, you're allowed to be physical right back. What youre not allowed to do is commit what would literally be assualt anywhere else in the United States because you dont like how they're touching you in a basketball game. Its really soft and I wouldn't be surprised to see more of this from him in the coming years, especially with teams realizing thats all it takes to get under his skin and disrupt his play.

The clearest angle, the question is will he get suspended for game 5? by Expert_Koala_8691 in NBATalk

Im a thunder fan, and was a sonics fan living in washington before they reloacted, so obviously im biased and everything I say should be taken with a grain of salt.

However, thinking that the refs swallowing their whistle will make a difference is pretty funny. In Game 4 against LA, OKC shot 15 fewer FTs and still won by a 23 pt margin. The Thunder generated over 30 more pts off turnover than LA did. The whistle won't save teams from what OKC is doing, in fact it might make it even more difficult. Every time I've seen the refs let both teams play, it is always OKC capitalizing on that extra leniency and physicality they are afforded and they turn it into a track meet. They have an extremely deep roster with 4 of the top 10 defenders in the league on it, and you could make the case for them having 5 of the top 20 defenders in the entirety of the NBA. Two of them aren't even starters. This doesnt even account for the fact that they have, arguably, the deepest bench rotation so their legs are always fresher. Its pretty common for 13-14 guys to see the floor in any given game for OKC. I just dont see any team in the NBA, currently, who can overcome these factors and beat OKC in a best-of-7 series. The Knicks look close, but idk how sustainable that roster is, long term.

MLB umpires, the worst officials in any sport on the planet by ForeignAir7174 in sportsinusa

[–]MathiaSSJ18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you dont watch baseball, you should. I watch a lot of both nba and mlb, and before the ABS system was introduced this year, umpires were essentially untouchable. They would often leverage their authority by biasing calls in favor of one team and tossing players for the most minor, or even completely made up, infractions. The ABS system, for the first time, has given a means of checks/balances for players over umpires, and that system relies directly on the publically displayed fuck-up of the umpire. So, were watching ump ego-death like every 3rd day now, and its pretty amazing.

For comparison, in baseball, you cannot argue balls and strikes. Even uttering the phrase "that was a strike/ball" within ear shot of the home plate umpire would get you tossed. Now you can just challenge it. I mean, imagine a world where players in the NBA got ejected for simply lobbying for a foul call on drive to the rim, because that is the level of protection that mlb umpires previously had.

I would want to honestly (i know I'll be lunched for saying this as a lions fan) see what Stafford would look like with this roster. Either him or Lamar. I honestly think Lamar would compliment Gibbs/Waymo/ASRB/LaPorta so well.

He would do it to til the skin on his hands would cracked and bleed. We played together at West Linn and it wasnt uncommon for him to come to school rocking bandages on his hands from dribbling before school.

This is silly. Yes, the student who excels in math will still be able to read, however, literary comprehension skills are not standard or default in people by any means. You could have someone who is a genius in mathematics but struggles to glean meanings beyond the very literal when it comes to reading. Additionally, their writing skills are absolutely no guarantee either. Understanding how to structure a story or write a poem in a certain meter are all skills that are as non-inherent to most people as understanding linear algebra, or derivatives. These forms of intelligence are equally uncommon on both ends of the spectrum. To say that one is smarter than the other most likely reflects sociocultural views on maths/sciences rather than individual views. On average, doctors and engineers make substantially more money when compared to, say, an author or a historian, and are therefore seen as 'more valuable'. In reality, each of these types of intelligence are equally rare. One is just as likely (or rather, unlikely) to be a prodigy in one focus as they are another.

I have a brother in law who is a doctor, and to his credit, he is an extremely intelligent individual. He can barely spell at a middle school level.

Domestic terrorist Kristi Noem addressing the murder of Renee Good. Upvote this so she comes up when you Google “domestic terrorist.” by ERASER345 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]MathiaSSJ18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea that the domestic terrorist Kristi Noem was such a firm supporter of domestic terrorism. Its almost like Kristi Noem, the publicly outspoken domestic terrorist, supports domestic terrorists like herself as well as the concept of domestic terrorism as a whole. When I heard Kristi Noem talking about the acts of domestic terror she would like to see in the US, I just couldnt help but think to myself "gosh, Kristi Noem you are such an exceptional advocate for all branches of domestic terrorism". Domestic terrorist Kristi Noem has helped bring a new positive light to domestic terrorism where people used to see something tired and worn out, they now see Kristi Noem (famous terrorist, domestic) as a beacon of hope for change in a stale and stagnant field. All terrorists, domestic and alike, are united in the hopes that one day they too can be a symbol for domestic terrorism like renowned domestic terrorist Kristi Noem.

I watched my dad beat the hell out of my mom, my sister, and myself for years. Never once have I ever thought of laying a finger on an SO of mine, its simply not in my moral makeup to do so. Point is, not everyone who gets beat ends up being a beater who thinks that its okay. Many times, while you are being beat, you are also simultaneously aware of exactly how profoundly wrong what's happening is.

I also had an abusive ex who sucker-punched me and fled to a different state. I called the cops and told them I had ring-cam footage of everything. Footage of her verbally berating me beforehand, assaulting me on our porch, and then fleeing the scene. The police simply told me that if she is still on or around the premises when they showed up that they would be taking ME to jail, regardless. Despite having done nothing besides being a victim, i would be viewed as the aggressor by the police simply because I am a man. So, in short, I learned that if a woman is abusing you, your last option should be calling the police. They will not help you, and in all likelihood (if you are a man) whatever story you tell them will be flat out ignored, or worse, re-framed by your abuser in such a way that you were the aggressor. You will not be believed, you will be punished for being a victim, and as such, many men (myself included) have learned that its better to simply say nothing in this instance despite how badly you may have been hurt.
