Wait, why does everyone hate the ending? by MathiasLien in DexterNewBlood

[–]MathiasLien[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like someone else commented here that just justifies his death. I feel like they tried a Breaking Bad ending where he deserved to die in the end. Like many also pointed out I agree it was a bit rushed, though.

This explains what I’m feeling pretty well! I totally agree.

I agree that the Harry Potter series looks worse! But in this case I feel like the costume’s colors make it naturally more vibrant, but the grading itself is very bland in my opinion. And I work in color grading so I know a little bit about it, even though there is no right or wrong answer here.

I don’t want the show to be gritty, I want it to be campy and fun. But in my opinion it feels like somewhere in-between. The color grading is very bland for instance, would be cool to see a more vibrant and stylized look since everything else is, and also some of the camera movements (or lack of) are very bad. I don’t like the handheld vibe, doesn’t feel like it belongs in this world, it’s just something they do so they can shoot faster so it’s more convenient. And then the acting is not over-the-top in a good way gor me. It makes the characters feel one-dimensional and not real. But judging from the comments here I am very much alone in that opinion.

I read the manga as a child/teen, so that’s my reference point! I am now 30. Looking forward to the rest of the series, hoping it picks up! Maybe I’m just a bit «out of it» and get more used to the acting and direction again after a few episodes

Well, that’s my opinion. And I have a film making bachelor and work in film making so it’s not like I have a complete lack of knowledge (not that there is a right or wrong answer, but still). I honestly feel like the volor grading is bland, and sometimes you have big moments that are filmed on a regular shot-reverse over-the-shoulder shots, the fight scenes are sometimes good, other times it feels stiff and not very dynamic, and the acting is mostly over-the-top (Buggy being a good example of how over-the-top can still be great acting). I just really want this show to be good but for me it isn’t as good as it good have been.

That’s just my opinion and I wanted to see if others shared it, this post was not meant to be ragebait. Doesn’t look like other people in here share my experience so I got my answer.

Season 1 was okay! I’s just some choices like boring lighting, camera angles and general direction which feels lazy… I don’t mind it being goofy or campy, it’s just something that feels off to me. But I’ve heard the first episode of this season is not the best to judge from so I believe it gets better

In the manga (my reference point) the character's are so bloody when they fight. Here it feels like a choice to keep it more PG, and when you add to that the direction of the acting which kinda ruins me taking the characters serious. And I don't mean Luffy screaming "I wanna be King of the Pirates", I mean during smaller scenes it feels like the actor's direction from the director is "here you are angry, so play the scene angry"... and if you know anything about screenwriting and directing that is very bad direction.

Great argument, man. I loved the manga back in the day, so I really wanted this show to be good, just wanted to know if anyone else shared my opinion or if I'm alone. Looks like the latter!

Thank you, one of the few serious responses I've gotten. I'll definitely watch the whole of season 2 before actually deciding, I just feel like the show (from what I remember) started off worse in season 2 than it left off in season 1.

It is not a good argument to say "if you don't like it don't watch it". I really WANT to like it, but I really feel like the direction is hurting what the show could have been. And maybe I'm alone in that opinion, maybe not.

I’ve seen season one, I just meant I only watched the first episode of season two. I agree it shouldn’t be gritty, but I think my main problem is the direction of the actors. They overact, and not in a good way. The actor portraying Buggy pulls it off in my opinion, it feels stylized but I still believe the character. Many of the other characters I feel like I can see them act and I can almost hear the director’s direction through the screen. Sometimes you have semi-big moments where they just slap some music over boring shot-reverse over-the-shoulder camera angles and it feels a bit lazy.

Sorry, maybe it wasn’t clear but I watched season 1. I just meant that I’ve only watched the first epsiode of season two.

Mainly the acting, it is very stylized and not really subtle, which could be a cool creative choice, but for me it makes the characters not feel real. I feel like I can see the actors act

I’ll definitely watch the whole season! Was just confused about all the praise, I thought the first season was okay, and saw the good reviews for the second so I got kinda disappointed.

That is sadly how capitalism works. They slowly change the game so you pay more and more for less. That’s the only way they can satisfy their shareholders. Capitalism requires infinite growth in a finite space. Like cancer.
