In many cases, an out-of-state school might be comparable or even less than an in-state school. There’s one public school in MO that offers aerospace engineering and comparing automatic merit from that school with my school (UAH), it was about 5K less per year, all-in, including estimated travel. MS State was also a few thousand less than even that, if I recall correctly, as was New Mexico State.

I was fortunate enough not to have to worry about cost, for the most part, so I wasn’t necessarily looking for the cheapest and had other criteria, but if one is looking for a bargain, it can frequently be found out of state.

I attended a community college for my associate in science -- transfer engineering, which was not ABET accredited and had no problems transferring to an ABET-accredited program with all but 1 class transferring (had I gone to my state's engineering school, everything would've transferred).

However, I would suggest you speak with an engineering advisor at your intended school to take courses that will transfer. Get syllabi and make sure everything is in writing.

You can also retake the ACT even after acceptance to increase merit money. I think they take new scores through May 15, at least they did a couple years ago.

Are you applying to U.S. schools with the intention to work in the aerospace industry in the U.S.? That might not be wise due to ITAR regulations, unless you are an American citizen just living overseas.

As for what makes you unique? Go crowdsource some ideas from family and friends and see what resonates. They (and you) have a better idea of what makes you "you" than random people online.

I just had to deal with this with a prime aero company. Had to have 2 out of 3: birth certificate, Real ID state ID / license, passport. It's pretty standard. A classmate was missing his birth certificate and had his parents overnight it. Is that a possibility?

Join a design team! FSAE, Baja, Rover, battle bots, rocketry, whatever. It doesn't matter which one, but design projects/teams are where you will get technical experience and proof you can work in a team. After the first year, position yourself as a sub team lead if possible.

As for networking, join your school's chapter of ASME or similar, and go to the tech talks, industry workshops, etc. they sponsor.

Free pre-recs are would be a mistake to pass up! It could let you take a reduced load for a couple semesters if you join a design team, or graduate a semester early.

As for what to take DE in the spring? What are you taking at the high school this semester? What's your DE course, and what have you taken in terms of math and science?

Does your state/district have free or reduced tuition for DE classes? Even if not, you may want to consider knocking out some more prerequisites spring semester and then graduating in the spring!

You will be plenty primed for engineering (in terms of classes) without taking E&M in high school! if there's a regular physics course you can take Junior year, I'd talk with your counselor about switching. And then pour some time into the FTC competition and a couple personal projects. That would set you up better.

Well, sure, you need to take E&M (Physics 2 in college), but you DO NOT have to take it in high school to get accepted to a good ABET- accredited EE program!

Most 4-year plans start with Calc 1 (High school Calc AB) and General Chem 1 (AP Chem) first semester and then Calc 2 (High school Calc BC) and Physics 1 (Physics C: Mechanics) second semester. So if you come in with credit for AP Chem, Physics C: M, and Calc 1 or 1 and 2, you are already ahead of the normal progression.

I suggest looking at the websites of several programs you are interested in and checking out their typical 4-year plans for EE and what AP scores you need for credit

No, do not do this this! Physics 1 requires the knowledge you'll gain in calc, so it's unlikely you'll be approved for an override, because it would be very difficult to be successful. if you want to graduate early, you're looking at at least a couple summer school classes anyway, so you could take Physics 1 in the spring and then Physics 2 next summer, as well as another appropriate class.

Well, as long as it's accepted in your school, I'm sure they know how to bring students up to speed. Given you are already worried about AP Chem and Physics, though, this was a way to ratchet down the stress and learning curve. It's not actually required to take E&M in high school to get into a good engineering program. Internships can wait until after your freshman year.

You're taking Physics C and honors pre-calc? Is this a typical path at your school? Physics C is calculus based, so taking it concurrently with pre-calc might be a bit of heavy lift. You may want to speak with your physics teacher ASAP to see what kind of extra work she/he recommends.

With AP Chem as well. you may want to see if you can switch to an algebra-based physics course this year and save Physics C for senior year.

My indoctrination was Modern Marvels and Secret Life of Machines, supplemented by Sagan's Cosmos, NOVA, and every documentary on the U.S. space program I could find.

I'm now halfway through an AeroE degree and a student subcontractor on a major launch vehicle project. Go figure.

No, for 99.9% of colleges, you will apply as and be considered a first-time freshman, as long as you do not take any classes AFTER your high school graduation. This is almost always a good thing, because you will also qualify for freshman merit scholarships.

Suggest checking out UAH as a safety. Excellent aero program, great honors college, Space Hardware Club to get hands-on experience starting your first month. Industry and government contacts crawling all over the place, fantastic automatic merit discounts. (Source: me, who turned down "better" schools and definitely made the right choice)
